(Mostly diabetes, but this has bearing on many 'food induced' conditions of the western lifestyle, so I've put it in here. Feel free to shift it if you think 'General' isn't appropriate.)
Carbohydrates are not essential nutrients, he says. They are “powerful, psychoactive, somatotoxic drugs”, similar to alcohol or nicotine. Carbs are an “endorphin-releasing drug, not a hunger satisfying food”.
wow a new look at spinach or kale or brussel sprouts then lol, they are all carbs too!

Indeed. But all those are pretty low in carbohydrates. Cauliflower, too.
Thanks for sharing!
I love carbs...they love my hips. We have a wonderful codependent relationship. Yes, I am considering a low carb diet but my codependency completely keeps me twisted...lol. Life taste good. Hopefully tomatoes are not going to become a issue..my garden is gracing me with plenty...yum.

The more insulin resistant you are, the more you will need to restrict carbohydrates. Almost everyone these day is insulin resistant to some extent, some more than others. I also have tomatoes from my garden - but don't buy extra. They have about 3.9 grams of carbs per hundred grams, so unless you are very insulin resistant a cherry tomato or two a day (or even one large tomato) isn't going to be disastrous.
But cutting out sugar and grains will only do good.
I love home grown tomatoes, they smell divine!
After two or three days the carb cravings go and life becomes much more pleasant, but the first two days without can be very difficult but possible abd if weight loss is the target then research 'Atkins diet' Dukan diet, and 5:2 diet
5:2 is okay, but is not necessarily low-carb.
Atkins is fine, but Dukan is not a healthy diet, since it advocates cutting not only carbs but also fat - leaving a diet very high in protein.
Low carb, high fat has effects far beyond weight loss - and beyond the diabetes 2 that the article is about - heart disease, strokes, metabolic syndrome. There's increasing evidence for it helping with cancer and Alzheimer's.
I never heard of the Duran diet. I love my butter and coconut oil. Do you consider potatoes a carb?

Yes. (17g of carbs per 100g of potatoes) Not as high as sugar and grains!
To get into ketosis, most people need less than 20g a day.

Thank you for that information. I must look into the Duran diet. I am re evaluating my diet due to the Shingles. I was so surprised by this issue. Even though I have been blessed in healing fast. I need to boost my immune system. The anti viral medication makes me little depressed. I am not normally a depressed person. I have decided to discontinue the meds with my doctors blessing. Anyway thank you Crowan.

It's called the Dukan Diet. Don't follow this - it is NOT healthy. Look up 'Keto Diet' or Atkins.
The Dukan diet is healthy if followed correctly. It takes a person through through different phases, from the beginnings of reducing the carb cravings to a healthy long term diet with no rebound effect later on.

It is low in fat, though. Dukan advocates low-fat dairy.
In fact, it is low fat, moderate carbohydrates and high protein - which as far as I know (and I've read a lot) is not backed up by any studies, other than one which ran for 24 weeks. Almost any diet will work over 24 weeks.

Thank you. Have to look at the Keto diet.

Thank you. Take a look.
