Ok advice please. mum was prescribed antibiotics whilst in hospital and reacted badly to them (they gave her sickness and diahorrea (sp), also thrush in the mouth. These were then changed to other antibiotics and although her course is finished something has made for skin itch and it is peeling (like you have been in the sun). Ok she has tried medicated talc, not really helping, any suggestions thanks

It would be pretty weird for antibiotics to cause the skin to peel. I would go see a qualified doctor immediately.

The skin peeling was as a result of prescribed antibiotics!

So sorry to hear your Mum is having such a rough time AP.
Has she tried E45 cream? I might consider adding some omega-3 oil from a capsule to each dollop of cream as it will help reduce inflammation and help heal the skin - there are some versions that are citrus flavoured, so don't smell or taste fishy. In view of her problems with the gallbladder I would not give it to her by mouth until the doctor says it is OK. It can be absorbed into the body through the skin though. In the old days we used to use fishoil ointment for bed sores and other skin lesions - and it was a bit smelly!! Doubt it's available now
May I suggest she has some quality probiotics like , to replace the gut bacteria knocked out by the antibiotics - I would consider this a vital step. I would also add this one to support immune function (80% of immune function is in the gut)
I presume she had a course of antifungals for the thrush?
Sending her Love, Light and Healing.
Hi Atlantic Pearl,
I think your Mum should tell the doctor about the skin problem. Do you know the name of the antibiotic that gave her the allergic reaction? x
Something similar happened to my mother when she was given amoxicillin by the dentist. She ended up in St Thomas' for months, as almost all her skin fell off; she was being treated like a burns victim at one point.
This isn't a normal allergic reaction to penicillin; she has pustular psoriasis, so I think that hers was an extreme reaction complicated by an existing medical condition.
There is a school of thought that AB's are a bit like killing a burglar, leaving a dead body in the hall. It might be more beneficial to set up the conditions that allow him to leave quietly.
thanks everyone for your advice. We know the name of the antibiotic that has done the damage (so to speak re the skin peeling). Tried E45 but that didn't help much, but I managed to get hold of an aloe-vera plant and have been using the natural gel from that on mum's skin which is helping.
Caroline thanks for the recommendations, I have passed these on to mum.
I had a bad Brown Recluse spider bite and after several days was admitted into the hospital . They put me on an IV drip with Vancomiacine, hope I spelled it correctly.. I was in the hospital about a week and the wound was well enough for them to send me home. However since being home my skin has been peeling as if I had a bad sunburn even my fingers an especially my back it itches so much nearly keeping me without rest even. Also my feet are so swollen I'm not sure my kidneys are able to get all that excess fluid gone.. Another thing The IV they kept in for more than a week has developed a clot and warm compresses along with an aspirin or two a day is not helping it to dissolve and is becoming a concern as my fingers don't feel right and the arm seems to have no strength to open even a pill bottle.
.. The Recluse bite is much better though but still worried and hoping for some advice I have went to the ER about the clot and they tell me to try things I am already doing. it's ( the clot ) from the mid inner arm all the way up to my elbow And growing further up the arm which is swelling and very sore I am not sure what to do because the ER did not seem at all concerned I AM can someone help with these things ??
