Hi everyone
My poor Mum (she's in her 60's) got knocked down by a car last week. She was crossing the road at Traffic Lights (yes she waited on the green man) and a car drove on and hit her.
She's 2 fractures in her big toe. He drove over her foot and has a bad wound and a crushed injury. The consultant is thinking of putting wire/metal in when the bruising etc goes down but just wants too review her often and see how things heal.
She was discharged from hospital that evening and given Anti-biotics, Codeine and Paracetamol too take for pain as she's in alot of pain.
Would a leg massage help or maybe a massage wouldn't be recommended? Is there anything else she can take/do too help the healing process?

Something to get the shock out of her system would be good...Bush Flower Emergency Essence would help here or Reiki if you have a practitioner nearby.
Thanks butterflywings, that would probably be good for her so must look for some of that Essence. The Dr said for her too keep her leg elevated for almost 2 weeks. Said she has skin integrity, swelling & bruising. Does anyone know if it would be ok for her too have a massage - maybe a light leg massage might help?

If she has bruising I imagine a massage would be painful. If my leg was bruised I wouldn't anyone to touch it!! Reiki is a non touch treatment which would help the healing from the inside - which is probably what she needs.
Other possible options might be hand reflexology, or appropriate aromatherapy oils in her bath water
But I really feel reiki could be very helpful.
Yeah Reiki would probably be very good for her as well. She couldn't get into the bath yet as she's a half cast on and has crutches. Her leg isn't bruised - she has a bad foot injury and it's badly bruised and I thought maybe a leg massage would help her - wasn't sure!
When I had an accident was amazing - it deals with the shock so very well and the pain too.
For bruising I reccommend homeopathic arnica as well as very gentle use of arnica cream, which my OH swears by whenever he does himself damage when falling off his horse  (he won't be told!).
Caroline beat me to it. I was going to recommend arnica cream for the bruising and arnica homeopathic remedy for the shock.
and of course, plenty of Reiki.
All Love and Reiki Hugs
Thanks so much everyone for the kind help 🙂 I forgot too say shes on Anti-biotics and Codeine and Paracetamol for the pain - I'm assuming she could take Arnica with this medication?

Dear LilacJewel,
I feel for your mum..as healing at the best of time after big shock is hard enough..but her age would make it a little slower..
So be patient to show your love through gentle massage..I get a sense you were itching to offer her some 🙂
My thoughts are very much in keeping with ladies above.. non-evasive method is always best when internal bruising is present.. Any tissue that needs wireing also not to be taken lightly . So give it time. plenty relaxing she can do, with good quality sleep for those antibiotic and painkilllers to take proper effect is best.
Codeine is normally very strong..so I would not mix it with even Arnica right now ..leg elevation is good.. so is wearing proper foot wear on that leg.
Include Saffron and or Turmeric in her foods.. as they are known for strong anti-inflammatory properties.
My father actually got killed crossing a pedestrian crossing many many years ago..so I know the trauma of it ..despite it being a while back .
I trust EFT to relieve any emotional anxiety, panics, fears, worries over unexpected events, shock, pain, crushed body...all of these and other emotions can be tapped out of her..so she doesnt keep it locked up inside . You can always ask her how she is doing.. and tease out how she is copining with that incident and what sort of meaning she may have put it on it all..bit of a CBT approach..but good heart to heart chat ultimately will do her more benefit psychologically now than ..any physical remedial interventions I feel.
Just a gut feeling of mine really !
Be well..please give your lovely mother our Well wishes for a speedy recovery 🙂
With warm wishes
Vathani
Hi Vathani
I'm so sorry too hear about your Dad 🙁 that's so sad and I'm sure it was a very traumatic time for you all.
It might be best then that we leave the Arnica for a while - I'll maybe try the Arnica gel when she gets her cast off.
Mum is still in pain and I just hope her foot/toe heels up in time. The Surgeon felt it best too wait until the bruising etc settles then see how it heals and said he'll decide then if he will operate. She was lucky that she didn't receive any leg, back or head injuries!
Yes I did feel a leg massage might help her so might try that. Think I'm itching too do it 🙂
Thank you so much for your reply and for your well wishes 🙂

Hi everyone
Well Mum saw the consultant today and the wound seems too be healing but still bad tissue damage. She's still on her anti-biotics which finish now in 2 days time and on Codeine and Paracetomol.
However, he said the skin is suspect and there's a risk it mighn't survive but he then said hopefully it will be ok!
Now we're really worried 🙁 the nurse then dressed it and I'm so worried for her!
I'd saw Glucosasmine and Chondroitin capsules and not sure if this would help her. I don't want too be getting her stuff and they maybe make things worse but would anyone know if they would help? Not really sure if I can get her anything for the skin, I just hope it survives and I'm so worried 🙁
LilacJewel
Glucosamine and chondroitin are mostly for joint care.
Make sure she is getting vitamin C and Zinc which are needed for healing. 2-3000mg vit C and 45mg zinc - available from the supermarket as tablets to make up into a drink. These are essential nutrients for healing. Then omega oils for cell structure - that omega-3 (fish oil) and omega-6 (Evening primrose oil or borage oil) - about 3000mg daily. I'd also make sure she has a good quality multivitamin from (not commercial rubbish from the high street). This is even if her diet is perfect - the body requires lots more when healing.
What she eats is vital to her health recovery - juicing would be great over and her normal intake.
If in doubt please let her have a consultation with a qualified Nutritional Therapist - it will make all the difference.
Caroline thank you so much for your help. Yes it's probably important she gets plenty of Vitamin C - she takes the Paradox Omega 3, 6, 9 capsules (inc Vitamin D3 & E) but maybe she would need a higher dose.
Someone told her too take Collagen for the skin and MSM - they had saw it somewhere in liquid form so I must search Google. I'm sure that would help her as well?
Hi, just to say that the Arnica (or any other homeopathic remedies) is safe to take alongside any other medication. It can help with physical pain due to bruising and trauma, and with emotional and physical shock. Hom.
Best wishes to you both...
Hi Lilac Jewel,
Just wanted to say how sorry I am about your mum. What an awful thing to happen. I'm not a practitioner so can't offer advice but am sending lots of love to you both. Do hope she feels a bit better soon xxxxxx
Hi everyone, just wanted to say that Mum was at the clinic and her wound is healing up well. The Dr was pleased with it and said the wound is now dried up and the nurse just put a sterile dressing on it. At least its healing and thanks too everyone for your kindness 🙂 The skin is still abit raw/blister looking and Mum was thinking of maybe putting some Aloe Vera on it but not sure what to do.
Hi Lilac jewel
Sorry to hear about your mum but glad she is on the mend. If it was my mum I think I would treat her to having her nails done and an Indian head massage. I know my mum would like that.
If you could get her a nice handsome man to do the massaging that might help;)
