Hello everyone, I'm popping this in here as I'm not sure it fits into just one of the other categories. I hope I'm not asking something that has been asked before... I am looking for some advice... Recently my family has had it's fair share of rotten luck, we lost my Dad (age 59) in January after a year and a half battle with cancer. I had a rough pregnancy although my little boy is just perfect he's been plagued with colds and coughs and general unwellness since he was born last August. I have my Dad's estate and all the heartache and legwork (who knew) that goes with it and as a family of four me (34), DH (33), DS (4) and DS (9 months) we seem to lurch from one bug to the next. Just last month my boys caught a sickness bug that landed the youngest in hospital for a night with dehydration and we missed out on our first family holiday ever and our first holiday in 6 years. I know there are people doing it a lot tougher than us and I know things could be worse and for that I am grateful but as we are in the mists of yet another bug (a cough/flu like one this time) I want to take the bull by the horns and get my family back on track. My plan is healthy eating and getting out walking (once we've shifted the lurgy). And I was wondering if you guys had any hints on anything else that I can do... Super foods, exercise, crystals, rituals, herbs, anything that you would suggest to bolster our immune systems, our general health and well being and our happiness

I feel for you. I went through something similar when my ex husband died and I had to sort out his esate, comfort our son and his mother, and then three months later My Mum died.
First thing I wasnt to say is you will come out at the other end sane and healthy.
I would say a helathy diet and exercise are the basis for everything, plus making time for fun.
I do hope you can get your much needed holiday sooner rather than later. I was lucky I managed to get away for a week wit my son.
You could try EFT to help deal with any emotional issues (of which I am sure there are plenty) Kids can use it too so the 9 yo can either tap himslef or you can tap for him
If you feel there is a lot negative energy in the house try Amethyst Crystals or maybe burning sage.
Echninacea is a good immune stimulant - but I a sure ohers will have other possibly better suggestions
I got through my year of hell (we called 2008 twothousand and hate it was so bad) without any major problems mainly because I had just been intorudced to NLP and visualisations (including visualisations for good health) That included meditation and if you can, I really reccoemend that. Again the 9 year old can do it with simple guidance too. It isn't just for grown ups

EFT Emotional Freedom Technique - google it on You tube.
NLP Neuro Linguistic programming - whihc basically i=wroks becasue what we think affects how we act and feel and it challenges you to replace negative thoughts with positive ones. That is a very VERY simplisitc explanation - but Cognitive behavioural therapy and other talking therapies use a lot of NLP techniques.
And it does work with things to improve physical health as well as things to improve emotional health.
I should add oth EFT and NLP have practiotners who are therapists trained to help people - but both are available as 'self help'
Bowen Technique - worked wonders for my daughter when she was diagnosed with glandular fever aged 14. It isn't just for aches and pains - it has a profound systemic effect.

I am sorry to hear about your health issues.
Of course EFT and NLP techniques are very helpful as many symptoms are based on emotional disorders.
Have in mind that all illnesses are just the symptoms of an unbalanced organism. Viruses or bacteria DO NOT make you sick - it is the sick body part that feeds them and therefor multiply, not the other way around. The initial cause of a symptom - if it is not caused by emotional disorders - is a bad diet, no exercise and no environmental combination.
Human body works holistically - if my shoulder hurts, that affects the rest of the body and soul!
Also note that during conception and gestation, parents "transfer" their actual health conditions to the fetus. If they are strong and healthy then the baby will be strong and healthy too - if not, the baby will be weak and prone to various illnesses.
The good thing is that this is reversible for kids because their body is growing and constantly strengthens if we provide them a natural and healthy lifestyle.
Consider these:
1. Do not force them to eat - they know by instinct when and how much to eat.
2. Stop giving them chips, fries, sweets etc. These are poisons that make the manufacturers and the doctors rich and your kids sick…
3. Stop being overprotective. Heavy dressing does not keep the flu away - most likely the opposite! Let them feel the wind, the sun and the temperature variations. This is how they strengthen their immune system.
4. Avoid medicines and pills when a symptom shows up. Let their immune system do the job - this is what it is made for in the first place!
5. Children must run, jump and play real games outdoors to explore their potentials, not just sit in front of a TV or a laptop!
Do not rely on super foods or pills because they do not solve the initial cause - they just cover the symptoms and make your organism lazy! Simply apply a new healthy lifestyle (based on clean unprocessed food, exercise and environmental interaction) progressively for you and your kids and you will be on the right track before even notice it!

Hi Kristeen79, I am sorry to read what happened to you and your family. Though times, but don't forget that the darkest time of the night is the closest to the morning.
I have a friend with a very weak immune system, he used to catch literally every sickness. As far as I know, he started eating healthy and disinfecting his hands every time he use public transport, toilets or other similar things outside. He seems a lot better now and more energetic than ever.
I would suggest you to have a diet with lots of fruit, vegetable, good carbs (such as bulgur rice, wholegrain pasta and quinua) and high quality protein (such as fish and chicken). Stay away from fried food, always prefer grilled or baked food. These are the things I know from my friend. I hope this all will be useful, wish you and your family luck with the new chapter of your lives.

One way to make your immune system stronger and your family is to drink pure lemon juice upon waking up in the morning. Squeeze two or three pieces of lemons depending on their size. I've been doing this for nearly 5 years now and I rarely get sick. If I do, I bounce back immediately.
Don't think that lemon juice is acidic. Lemon juice is alkaline if we take it pure. We don't mix with water or sugar or else it becomes acidic. Also remember that it should be taken with an empty stomach.
Lemon juice is your daily dose of Vitamin C.
Sometimes, it's the simple things that have the most profound effects in our life.

EFT is a mind body therapy, it integrates your body, emotions, mind and spirit. It works on the meridian system, the acupuncture points.
