Hi guys,
First let it be said that I am NOT looking for a diagnosis, merely other options as opposed to what has been going through my head. I am planning to see a medical professional, I just can't see one any time soon (Friday).
So I posted a few days ago about my cheek and fears of oral cancer. I've since been to the dentist and was assured that I had no growths in my cheek and showed no other signs of having oral cancer. The thing is the dentist did not check my tongue, I wasn't to bothered by this as I hadn't had any problems with it. Until Tuesday evening. It felt like something was stuck under the left side of my tongue, so I put my finger under there to get it out (small bit of food from dinner), I ran my finger around under the rest of my tongue to see if there was anymore. There wasn't buy I did feel a bump on the side of my tongue (where the lingual tonsils are). Seeing as I had read before that the side of the tongue is one of the most common places oral cancer starts and that they are generally painless at first. I scared myself again.
My tonsils are/were not swollen, there are no obvious legions or lumps on my tongue. At least not that you can see, I had a doctor have a look at it and they said they saw no unusual bumps or legions that could be potentially dangerous. The thing is it's not something that you can see, only feel. The doctor did not feel my tongue.
The 'bump' was/is, like I said on the very back part of my tongue, past my teeth and on the side of my tongue. I say bump, be side I don't KNOW what it was/is. It was merely something that was bigger and a bit harder (it wasn't actually hard though, still pretty soft) than the part of my tongue was on the other side in the exact same place. I read on the Internet that your tongue should be basically completely even on both sides, with little difference. I thought that it was a cancerous lump INSIDE my tongue, and kept comparing it to the other side.
Anyway. Last night I was pressing it to see just how hard it was on comparison to the other side (not much difference at all), and it popped. I think. I felt this little click under my finger and whilst there was no liquid that I could feel come out of it, I got a funny taste in my mouth (acidic?).
I was terrified I had popped a cancerous legion and it would not somehow spread (is that even possible? I thought cancerous legions were hard, I'm not sure if they can be merely popped). I can't think what on earth it is/was. A cyst? In which case, swallowing the stuff inside it can't be very good, right?. Do cysts even grow inside your tongue, not being visible on the outside?.
I cannot see a doctor or dentist until Friday so they can have a look at it. So in the meantime I can't see anyone for a while, I was wondering what in earth you think it may be/have been?. Anything as serious as cancer? As that keeps going through my head.
By the way incase you haven't noticed, I suffer from Health Anxiety. Though I assume you have.
I'm 20 year old female, do not smoke, drink rarely and in moderation, no strain of HPV.
Thank you for taking the time to read this rather lengthy post, I know I sound like a bit of a fool. Any help you could give me is great appreciated.
