Daveyboy,

Whilst the forum you're advertising is free and so you're unlikely to have your post deleted (new relaxed rules on HP) I think your approach stinks. It's your first post on this forum, you're blatantly advertising in full expectation of having your post deleted, and so I can only assume that you're not looking to add to the discussions here as you're developing your own site. Whilst you haven't broken the letter of the rules on this forum, your approach isn't in keeping with the spirit. Hope you rethink your tactics and prove me wrong.

Hi Cub, daveyboy's post was discused by the Mods & felt it would be OK as, like you said, it's not a commercial web site. However I will move it into the interesting websites forum

Hi Daveyboy,

Welcome to HP. I hope you've had a chance to read the forum guidelines since you registered, but just in case you're not familiar with them yet, please note that you are allowed a signature (no more than 4 lines long) which can be a hyperlink to your website. This is a moreacceptable way of promoting your site- see Ameliajane's one as an example.

Thanks, Azalia.

RE: new website and forum for Devon

Ok first off ,sorry if I have offended anybody by my first posting!I have looked for as many relevant forums as possible to advertise my site and I feel no guilt for it.I do not have the time to hold down a full time job and then sit down for hours in the evening posting comments on several sites. My time on my PC in the evenings is limited and most of it is taken updating/creating my own site..I believe it is crucialy important to protect the environment and wildlife, which is the reason I created my site in the first place. The more environmental and wildlife sites that are created can only be a good thing, uniting like minded individuals and providing sources of education and interest. So I dont apologise and I dont believe my atitude stinks either.I am someone with limited time and resources trying to spread the word about a small but,I think ,valuable new website.I have edited my original posting, but I think a little more thought could have gone into some members postings.

Hello daveyboy

I agree with you about the importance of preserving the environment and wildlife, andcongratulate you for creating a website to generate interest and provide information and education.

Notliving too far from the boundary with Devon, I was interested to visit your website and note you ask for comments and suggestions. I will email you with one or two thoughts.

Best wishes,

Daveyboy,

I'm sure you can appreciate cubs reaction as we often get people joining up to just put on their first post as a promotion to their website and never contribute to the forums again. There's no need for you to apologise.

May I suggest you give yourself a signature like:

Daveyboy
Concerned for the environment
[link= http://www.devonenvironment.co.uk/ ]http://www.devonenvironment.co.uk [/link]

Cub,
I know it looked like blatent advertising but can we refrain from jumping down peoples throats. We have to remember that not all new members have read and fully digested the forum guidelines. If you come across other posts that you have concerns about then please feel free to notify themoderators and we'll come and take a look.

Now if you two can just kiss and make up.... well ok, there's no need for the kissing part. 😀

RE: new website and forum for Devon

Hi Dave, What a great website you've created.

I live in Hampshire, and have been a voluntary member of a local woodland conservation group, we conduct work parties and look after quite a few areas of woodland where we live, we've mainly being coppicing. This Sunday is our last work party before Xmas, again we'll be finishing some coppicing we started.

Last Sunday my partner and I attended a course run by the BTCV called Practical Woodland Conservation, it was great and I feel a little more knowlegeable about conservation in general. The next course we'll be attending is Habitat management and I'm eager to learn more.

We definitely need more websites highlighting environmental issues - well done and hopefully I will contribute to your forum as I become more knowlegeable.

Love

RE: new website and forum for Devon

Dear HP Members,

Sorry for my burst of anger and I'm pleased that Daveyboy had decided to edit his original post so that it's in keeping with HP rules. Many people on this forum (myself included) hold down a full time job and make time to contribute to it. After all it's the discussions, sharing of knowledge and experiences which keep us coming back. In my humble opinion forums aren't principally for advertising other products, free as they may be, but about building a community. In my view, Daveyboy's post #6 continues to suggest that his main interest in joining HP is to promote his site.

Like everyone on HP I am concerned about the environment (I live 5 miles away from the fireball currently blazing in Herts and wonder what is going to happen to all the places the toxic fumes reach). I wish Daveyboy well in raising environmental concerns in his local area.

Point noted, Giles - I'll draw the attention of the Moderators to any posts that I think are of concern.

In reply to Cub,I understand everything you say and largely agree with it.The only point I will make is that you say that a forum is about building a community, well that is exactly what I am trying to do.Linking like minded individuals is very important for the protection of the environment, and that is one of my main aims. This is one forum, mine is another.......and there are hundreds of others.I am not trying to sell anything,I am trying to let people know about something they may find interesting. You say it is the sharing of knowledge and experiences that draws you back to this forum.....I am just adding to that....not detracting! These are my last words on this subject, hopefully my next contribution will be less argumentative and more uplifting!?Maybe..........:-)Thanks again to everyone,
Dave

Hey Daveyboy

(ooh I love a naughty boy - keep rattling those cages - its only by challenging people and causing discomfort that people pay attention)

I have a full time job and study and teach on top so really relate to what you say about time - have had a peep at your website and can' t really see why anyone would take umbridge and you are miles from me so can't even benefit. Glad you 'blatantly' advertised it so I could benefit 'on line' if not 'in the flesh' as it were.

Get passionate about 'your thing' folks and so long as you're not hurting or harming anyone or anything (or trying to convert someone to your way of thinking) does it matter?

We are all going to die - its just a matter of timing as my mother would say!. (Am I in trouble now for 'inciting a riot?')

RE: new website and forum for Devon

As the new county and regional forums were created after this thread appeared in Interesting Websites, I've moved it over to the Devon forum.

I've just had another look at the site, and it does appear to be updated regularly.
