Hello Starz, I too heard voices when my hubby was very ill,usually I was woken up by them during the night,to tend to Ken! But I have heard voices at various times,one telling me their name. But I haven't heard voices for a while now so assume all is well. I do meditate now and again and usually hear a 'babble'. But it takes time so relax and let those voices come through gradually. But do make sure you have protection and ask who they are.

Yes silverhooded owl is so right about protection.

If you wish to take it further then a spiritualist centre church or group would be an idea. As they are so diverse in their teachings you will need to shop around so to speak. My trusted method is your first greeting, if they make you feel welcomed and warm, then start with them.

Luckily I have a friend who is a very good medium so she keeps me right and has taught me what kind of protection to use. The one I use is to surround myself with bright white light or to enclose myself in a cocoon. Also I ask Archangel Michael to wrap me in his cloak of protection. Make sure you ground yourself by imagining your feet putting out roots into the ground to keep your earthed. (not very good at explaining!) 😮

Anything that invokes the spirit realm for a cloak of protection IMO is great.

I hear voices sometimes too, as I'm drifting off to sleep I hear snippets of conversation and I've heard my name spoken. I also have out-of-body experiences where I wake up in bed (I'm not really awake tho) and hear all sorts of goings on, voices, people walking around, etc. Sometimes its difficult to tell whether I'm asleep or awakeuntil I try to move and find that I can't move as I normally would.
I notice you also posted this in the Mental/Emotional forum, I've never really worried about it and havent ever worried that it might be a mental issue.

Which of course,spoils my meditation.

Have a word with your medium friend about your meditation technique (may be a problem with it).

As you trust him/her IMO that would be the best person to speak to first. Ask them if they would sit with you, that way they may be able to say who is with you.

I shall ask my daughter,she can baby sit me whileI meditate.
Though normally my best time is when I'm drifting off to sleep. That's when I have heard voices or voice I should say saying 'My name is Whitecloud' I have asked and asked but have not had any further response.

this morning I sat down and heard something falling...it was not next door but Looked around and nothing it was definitely near me the sound...

how does one (god I sound like the queen) develop clairaudience

I picked the telephone up and a woman was on...the phone never rang she was just there..and it happened each time I put it down she would not get off the line..

any tips for developing hearing spirit...?

Clairvoyance

The ability to see those in Spirit and images is known as clairvoyance. Clairvoyance is the art of 'seeing' with senses beyond the five we normally use. Clairvoyance is often called the 'sixth sense'. It is related to the images that are presented in your mind that bring messages from other realms. These images can be shape, colours, still, animated, remain on a few seconds or last a longer time. You may 'see' them with your eyes open or closed. It is the ability to see, with inner vision, that which is not perceived by the physical eyes. So how does the medium actually see what they see? It is important to accept that when mediums attune themselves with spirit their state of consciousness alters. The medium's mind, which is the focus of consciousness, moves away from the earth plane to the spirit world.

Clairsentience

Meaning 'clear sensing' is the ability to perceive emotions sent through by Spirit. Clairsentience is the ability to know things outside of the usual range of perception. This is the psychic term for the ability to have a good gut instinct about matters. It is the ability to feel / sense any spirit's elements or apparition's that are around you. This is the first of all the Clear-seeing (clairvoyance, clairaudience, and clairsentience) to develop with most people.
There are numerous way's that clairsentience works, by gut feeling, by a touch or by a tingling feeling on your body, experiencing other realities or entities through one or more of the five senses. In my experience it is often the first point of reference when experiencing communication from Spirit. From this communication you can tell who is coming through by personality, you can also determine whether it is a male or female (and lots more detail) with time and practice.

Clairaudience

Meaning 'clear hearing' is the ability to hear words spoken by Spirit. This means that the Mediums can hear thoughts in their minds just as you and I would if thinking about something. However, mediums have been trained, to differentiate between external 'voices' and their own thoughts. Mediums may also be gifted to hear voices objectively. This means they hear voices as if someone were speaking directly into their ear. When Mediums demonstrate this type of Mediumship the 'voices' are so clear and real to them (not heard by others) that they will possibly answer the 'voices' and converse with them as if in normal conversation.

An example of a clairaudient is Joan of Arc who could hear voices that led her to her victory in the battle for her country. When she admitted this, she was burnt at the stake by the church for being blasphemous.

so how do we go about doing this? how do we define between our own thoughts and the messages from spirit..? there are many times where i hear voices or have thoughts completely out of the blue but a small part of me always tells myself that i imagined it.. i'm the same during meditation.. i have thoughts and names that come to me but then my mind wanders off as i try to work out what i thought of beforehand to make me think it (if you get what i mean [&:])

i've alsoheard someone speak my name on numerous occassions (i'm presuming that from other posts this is quite common) but for me it generally happens when i'm doing something mundane like hoovering or washing up.. you know those times when you're not thinking of anything at all? almost like you're on automatic pilot.. it still makes me jump though and like silverhoodedowl said(hello btw:)) i ask who the person is but i never get any further response..

the other thing that happens to me is that i get bizarre songs that enter my head for no apparant reason.. one of these happens to be patsy cline - crazy but i've always felt that was my mother coming through.. can't be sure for certain but that's the feeling i get.. (i'm learning to trust LOL)

another one i get is when i'm at work.. and it's only when i go into a certain ladies room.. sometimes all i have to do is walk past.. whenever i'm near that room i get mr sandman in my head.. i feel the connectionis more with the room other than the lady as i don't get it when she's anywhere else in the house..

has anyone else had this kind of experience and if so please can you give me some tips on how to solve this little mystery.. i'm very intrigued by the whole thing and would like to find out more on how to develop this skill.. sometimes i find it so hard to switch my own mind off and 'really' listen..

I'm exactly the same as you,Infinitebliss. I haven't voices for a while,in fact since just before my hubby died. I was frequently woken up during the night by this voice (man's voice) telling me to 'wake up',always I found that my hubby was in distress so I assume they come to you when you are needed forsome reason.
But I was woken one nightby a man's voice saying 'my name is Whitecloud'.
But I haven't been given any more information since then.
I assume this could have been a guide.

I hear voices very often, always use protection and ground yourself after, in other words before you open up to spirit and as you close down the contact.
asking arcangel Michael to cover you in his cloak of protection and cut the cords of negativity. will also help. keep asking your guide for info on who they are etc.
you may not get the answer straight away but you will gt it.

That is very wise advice,Blackcrow,I follow it now every night before I go to sleep as that is usually when I hear these voices.
