I have had a very painful throat for about ten days. I assumed it was a virus and as I take a multivitamin and mineral as well as garlic thought it would go away after a few days. I've also been taking zinc and echinacea as well as manuka honey.
However, I don't feel any better and the pain is waking me up at night, even though I am breathing through my nose (I don't have a cold, but a slight cough). I'm feeling very low during the day with not much energy and the other thing is that I can't see my mum in hospital while I'm feeling like this.
I thought I might go to the doctor, but I know if he says it's a virus he won't give me anything, and not sure if I want antibiotics anyway as I was on them a couple of weeks ago for my tooth.
I'm not eating brilliantly at the moment as I don't really have an appetite and just want comfort food and haven't even been to the gym all week (unheard of for me). Does anyone have any ideas how I can speed things up, or am I just being impatient (us therapists are the worst!)?

RE: Very Sore Throat
Hi Lesley,
Fresh ginge rusually works wonders fo rme when I have any throat things starting. Take soem fresh ginger root, put it in a garlic press and drink the juice, Add a bit of water if you need to. My other "potion" is cloves (whole), ginger (fresh root), cinamon sticks, thyme, lemon rind. Boil in some water and drink it with honey and the fresh lemon juice you squeezed before using the rind. The stonger the potion, the more effective!
Hope you get better soon.

RE: Very Sore Throat
Hiya
Just a thought, would this be tied in to the nasty dental work...latent infection....me thinks.....?quincy's abscess - ridiculously painful and almost impossible to swallow anything even your own saliva....

RE: Very Sore Throat
Thanks Artemis, I shall buy the ingredients tomorrow.
Tracy, can you still have a quinsy abscess without tonsils as I don't have mine? I did wonder about the tooth problem, but the sore throat started the day I finished taking the antibiotics, so I think they were still in my body. I think it is more likely to be a virus, turning into a bacterial infection - I just might have to see the doc tomorrow - fed up with pain!

RE: Very Sore Throat
Hi Lesley
I always take a daily echinacea tablet along my usual vitamins. If I start to feel the first signs of a sore throat or a cold, I take a high dose of bee propolis tablets for at least 24 hours and the symptoms go away. Because the bee propolis is a natural antibiotic there are no nasty side effects. For more info check out the website.
Hope you feel better soon.:)

RE: Very Sore Throat
Thanks Rossymaglossy. Actually I forgot to mention, I was also taking Bee Propolis for a week until they ran out (I have to buy some more), but the throat is as bad as it was. I've got an a doctor's appointment shortly, so will let you know how I get on.

RE: Very Sore Throat
Hi Lesley, I too wondered about a connection between your dental work and this. Are you able to give yourself some hand reflexology eg upper lymphatics, eye and ear, eustachian, throat, inner ear, sinuses, brain, cervical verts etc etc to help balance the whole area?
I can send you some reiki in the meantime. Because I don't have reiki 2 I can't strictly speaking do distance healing however I firmly believe in the power of intention!
Love,

Absolutely Siobhan and it has been gratefully received. I have been working on my hands quite a lot over the past few weeks. It's certainly helped to keep the stress side of things in check.
The doctor has given me some penicillin, I've now got the ingredients to make Artemis' 'brew' and I've bought some Buttercup Syrup which is really soothing.
Thanks everybody for your help.
