Hi,

Woke up this morning and i don't know what made me do it - but i started to press under my right armpit. It felt very sore and I felt a pea like lump under there (not on the skin) but deeper under the skin. It's now very sore after me prodding and poking. Any ideas ?? I stated feeling under my left armpit and there's a similar lump there but it's not sore.

I'm hoping to go to my GP this week - but trying to get there will be difficult (due to work committments) and I've already started to worry.

Thanks all.

Hi Happygirl

Could be as simple as an inflamed Axillary node. Sore Axillary nodes and very common in that area. Have you been ill recently? This would explained an over-worked lymphatic node and may take some time to desist.

Info given through my own experience:
Also where are you in your monthly cycle? If you are currently menstruating allow your cycle to complete and a week later re-check the area, if the swelling is still apparent please go and get it checked out by your GP sooner rather than later.

If you are not currently menstruating maybe go and get it checked out by your GP anyway but before your next period is due.

Take care and well done ‘you’ for self-examination! Have a good look around the whole breast area too, there are many sites on the internet for correct procedures to breast examination. Men should do breast examinations too (their own that is) and also include a testicular examination on a regular basis.

Your adding in of "their own that is" made me really chuckle. 😀

My period is due in a couple of days' time - although at the mo I'm trying to get pregnant. Does that mean if my period comes do I need to wait until it's over before going to the GP or can i get it checked during my period ?

I can't think of any virus/infection I've had lately and I haven't been ill. the only viruses are the colds that are currently "doing the rounds" - although i haven't had anything. Still I suppose a cold virus wouldn't affect the armpit.

Viruses (or is it viri??) can be encapsulated by any lymph node that fancies taking charge of its destruction! My daughter had a swollen lymph node in her armpit at the beginning of the year - she had been having repeated tonsil problems. She was told, very reassuringly by the GP, to stop fiddling with it! It went away quite quickly and has not recurred. Best to get it checked out, so make time to get to the GP then you can stop worrying.

Hi again

Sorry for delay in replying I keep losing my internet connection.

Go and get it checked out happygirl.

Don't worry yourself too much but get it looked at regardless of your time in your cycle.

Your GP will be able to advise accordingly.

These kinds of swellings are very common.

My previous post info is what I recieved from my GP recently but was not intended to hold you back seeking professional advice.

That's my theory gone to pot then - lol 🙂

Thank you both for your help and kind words - will visit the GP this coming week(unless it goes) and will let you know the outcome.

Hi again

Please excuse yet another post but I didn't get the chance to expand on my reply to you due to losing my first response because of a dodgy internet connection and the fact I had a mobile treatment at 4pm.

Both my sister and I had the same as you, as well as breast lumps, breast cancer is on our family. But even with our family history we are still in the majority and are totally fine.

My sister still gets lumps that come and go with her cycle every month but only needs to seek advice if they do not desist each month. Please don't worry too much, easier said than done I know. When I found a large breast lump my GP said there was a two week waiting list for an appointment with the specialist, b****r that I thought and off to the local Nuffield I went. But all was fine.

But here’s a little cheeky thought happygirl……..have you noticed any other changes recently, mood swings, sleepless nights, sore breasts, stomach discomfort etc? It’s a bit optimistic on my part but you get what I’m intimating towards? It is not uncommon for the lymphatics and breast tissue to become hyperactive during pregnancy and get lumpy and very sore.

Wishing you the best of luck.

Hiya

Go to your doctor and get it checked out. My sister in law has hidradenitis suppurativa (sp?) which basically means she gets a lot of boils under her arms and has to have antibiotics. If they don't work, she has to have them surgically removed. If you get them early you may clear them up without all that.

Take care

Could be - guess I'll have to wait. However if I am it'll be a very anxious time for me. Don't want to go too off topic here, but my partner is asian and our families don't like our relationship. The reason he's my partner and not my husband is due to his family pressure which has gone on for years. Effectively we're in a straitjacket. If I am pregnant then I'd have to marry him soon, as the child would not be considered his (according to his religion) if we married later in the pregnancy or even afterwards.

It must be something you and your partner are both happy and ready to deal with due to you trying to become 'preggers', draw on this strength as and when your bid for Motherhood becomes reality.

Don't wait too long though to go see your GP and get a firm diagnosis for your axilla issue.

Happygirl,

Please go to your gp, just to be on the safe side. I started getting pea sized lumps under my arms and went to my gp. He said they were ingrown hairs but to me the lumps were more than that. He gave out to me for shaving under my arms and couldn't understand why I did that. At the time I was under a lot of stress with relationships, work etc and I am sure it was because I was very stressful at the time. From reading your post it, may be stress with you at this time.

Do go to your gp for pregnancy test. If you are, well then its a gift and you will get help to sort out your relationship with his family.

My thoughts are with you.

With love & blessings,

Rachel

Hi both,

Thank you for your kind words. I am intending to visit the GP this Friday and wil let you know (if she can definitely tell).

I know I'm going off topic here but the odd thing is that i don't think I'm pregnant but i've had this sort of thing before - I feel pregnant and have symptoms (implantation spotting, sickness, metallic taste in mouth, feeling dizzy etc) and then find my period comes - weird. I don't think it's psychological or anything as many of those symptoms occurred before i even knew they were symptoms (if you know what i mean) - like I didn't know that a metallic taste in the mouth was a symptom until a friend told me afterwards. Like yesterday - felt sick and fainted - yet i don't believe I'm pregnant. Strange.

The lump has gone now - went away as quickly as it came. Weird.

That is great news!:045: That sort of thing isn't weird for a lot of women. Keep an eye on the area and see if it comes up at around the same time next month.

All the best on your "other" quest. :dft012:
