Has anyone used a salt pipe for asthma and have you found it to be helpful? Although I get asthma from time to time I am not a full asthmatic, ie certain things trigger me off, like paint, glue, varnish, sometimes a cold. My drs advised me only to take inhalers as and when i need them.
I just really want to know if those that have used them have found them effective or not thanks
Hmmm.. I never heard of that, I just use the old ways when it comes to my asthma. But i suggest you to ask an advise from your GP and inform him about this Salt pipes. He might give more accurate response to this. Good luck.

the gp hadn't heard of salt pipes but a client with asthma recommended one and i wanted to know generally how effective they were
Hi I have never heard of a salt pipe for asthma. Do you know what it is? as have asthma and have tried various holistic treatment which does work a little. I am now finding the inhalers that I am using dont work as well as they did, so a salt pipe would be of interest to me.
I don't have asthma but when I get a cold I usually find that, being an ex-smoker, the cold symptoms turn into broncial problems. I find that using a salt pipe helps. Essentially you have a container holding salt (Himalayan rock salt is in mine) and it has a mouthpiece. Because the base of the container is like a sieve you can draw air in by breating in through the mouthpiece, the air passes through the salt and you are breathing that in - it's a bit like being at the seaside and breathing in ozone.:D
Here's a link for an example that may explaing things a bit better

A few years ago we visited the famous Wieliczka Salt Mine in Poland, they have built a sanatorium underground for patients with respiratory complaints. For the visitor there is also an underground church built out of salt. It was very interesting and I can confirm you feel fantastic breathing in that salty air
