Back in Feb I had a cough/sinus infection that developed into a really bad chest infection and then pleurisy. I continued working but went off with it in Mar as the pain from the pleurisy was too much. It took around 6 weeks from Feb to feel like I was recovering. I still now have slight pain where the pleurisy was worst when I cough or sneeze and still cough up a little phlegm. I took antibiotics - Klaracid 500mg twice a day for 10 days. I got thrush which was difficult to shift and a bad stomach. 5-6 weeks on after taking the antibiotics I still have loose stools and intermittent indigestion. In the last two weeks I have developed nausea, fatigue, no appetite, shaking, cold hands and feet, chills, aches and dizziness/lightheadedness, lump in my throat. I went back to the doctors and am booked in for blood tests tomorrow. Is it all connected? I was starting to feel better and thought the symptoms were due to my impending period but they didn't fade when I got it. I am quite anxious at the moment as I feel a lot of pressure to go to work as they are short staffed and it's not helping at all. I don't know if it's all in my head as anxiety symptoms are similar. I feel tense a lot of the time, can't concentrate and cried the other night as I just feel like I'm in a hole! I had one ok day two days ago when I felt sick for only a few hours in the morning, managed to eat something and go to work no problem. I was still quite tired but felt able to cope. Then yesterday back to feeling awful again. Doc has given me anti-nausea tablets which help a bit. I'm wondering if I may be anaemic again, 12 years ago I had ferritin levels of 4 which was badly low. Got put on iron and recovered in 6 months. That was after a bout of flu too so I'm wondering if my body has used all of its iron stores to fight this bad infection. I recently joined a gym but find it hard to exercise feeling like this. I'm 39, 5'5" and 61kg (lost 5kg since Feb) so am healthy weight. Any ideas, similar stories or help would be much appreciated. I'm feeling quite down and anxious about it all.

Given the weather we've had for the last few months lots of people are suffering from chestiness and the like. That obviously can effect the breathing which makes more of an effort to do anything, so fatigue, yes. And fighting off an infection can take its toll on the body especially if nutritional needs are not more than adequately supplied.
On top of all that, antibiotics, which also knock out all the good guys as well as the bad guys, hence the stomach troubles.
It could all be a domino effect, one thing leading to another. The blood tests will confirn this or otherwise.

Two weeks holiday in a sunny clime would probably be the best thing for you, if it's a possibility. Rest, warmth/sunshine (plenty of vitamin D), stress free.

The first thing is to rebuild your intestinal flora, so a hearty dose of probiotics and some live natural yoghurt.
Tummy trouble dehydrates the body and disrupts the body's ability to absorb vital nutrition - protein, vitamins and minerals etc.

A gold standard multivitamin would certainly be in order.
I've a feeling you might be low in vitamin D and possibly a below par thyroid. So that might need specific supplementation.

Together with a healthy diet - plenty of vegetables and fruit. No matter what it is, a healthy, balanced natural diet is going to be at the forefront of the solution.

Garlic, consumed as near raw as you can stomach, is great for all chesty ailments. Ginger too might be worth a try.

Have recently been down a similar road (I won't bore you with the details!). it could be worth asking your doctor to test for vitamin D deficiency as part of the blood test. The symptoms are very debilitating and it can have an effect on your immune system. Have just been tested as severely deficient.

That's right, vitamin D is essential for a healthy immune system. People with low D levels have been shown to be more susceptible to infections, incl. chest infections...
