Hello,

I apologise if there has already been a post like this but im slowly going insane. This is the worst year my hayfever has been and i just wondered if anyone knew of any good tips or medicenes that i could try. I cant use eyedrops as they irritate my conatct lenses, i have tried the nose sprays but guess what .. they give me nose bleeds. So the only thing i am taking is Zirtek tablets and they dont seem to be doing anything 🙁

Any advice welcome [sm=hug.gif]

Thanks

XF

Hiya,
Eccinacea is a good supplement to ease hayfever. It's certainly helped me this year! I do use the beccinaise nasal spray too but that is the one and only product on the market that doesn't make me drowsy.

Local honey works a treat if you can get your hands on some.. those nasal sprays can be nasty.. with respect to the antihistamines, I chop and change with them all the time cause one year one will work and suit me, another year it'll do nothing. Its trial and error..

RE: Hayfever

Panic! are you sure it stops the pill? I thought that was St John's Wart.

Well I've been taking it the last 4 years or so and no mini-me yet, but could you tell me where you got this information so I can check it out?

RE: Hayfever

Hello XF,

I agree, the pollen this year is higher than it's ever been. I take 'Puriton' tablets, combined with 'Beconase' and 'Optichrom' eye drops. I have been taking this combination since early March, when the tree pollen first began. I cannot take tablets alone because they aren't as effective as combined medication. I don't wear contact lenses, but I use the eye drops last thing at night, and again in the mornings. I think if you leave it for about an hour after applying the morning drops before you wear your lenses, I'm sure they'll be fine. Washing my face regularly helps, too. It washes off the pollen. I am asthmatic, and I have had to use my inhaler more this summer.

I used to take the 'pill' and use 'Beconase' and I never became pregnant. I haven't heard of that happening before, XF.

Love,
Patsy.

The thing which gets me this year (other than the snuffles) is the eye trouble.. oh they hurt, I look like I've been bawling my eyes out, the drops are ok I guess, but cause my eyes are red raw anyway and my whole face feels itchy it feels almost like the drops irritate them further.. anyone got any good ideas for the eye trouble?

Hi Gussie
I have very sensitive eyes, especially around now in this high allergy season.
I've found Similasan homeopathic eye drops really do help my problem
And they have a range of eyedrops for other conditions as well

I originally bought the product from a local health shop, but now I order it over the Net..much cheaper.

RE: Hayfever

Yes XF it is hellish this year, isn't it?

I sneeze a lot and have a prickly throat, but what's worst for me is that the membrane covering my vocal cords becomes puffy and even sometimes has fluid under it which makes my job terrifyingly unpredictable (I'm a singer). I'm thinking of trying arsenicum 6c and allium cepa 6c, any comments from people who know about these things appreciated.

Eccinacea doesn't go well with HIV so I can't use it but I think it's a good idea for those who can. Vitamin C also helps, I'm told, and I imagine zinc would help with protection and repair of vulnerable membranes. It's worst for me where the diesel pollution combines with plane tree pollen: plane trees in the country are ok.

I thought Beconase was a bit harsh but if it works for Patsy I'll give it a try. ANYTHING for relief - my holistic leanings waver in the face of urgent need!

Good luck, fellow sneezers.

Oh I thought it was just me!

I have been terrible this year. I only started having Hayfever a few years back and a anti-histemine in the morning usually sorted me out. This year no such luck! I have a Benedryl One-A-Day (the three a day make me drowsy) and that stops the itching in my ears, eyes and back of my mouth and most of the sneezing. But I still sneeze constantly and go through tissues like there is no tomorrow! Its an absolute nightmare!!

RE: Hayfever

Hi, i get real bad hay fever on occasion almost analyptic shock bad.......i reckon over the years i tried just about every herb/remedy or drug on the market bar steriods.......the only thing that i would really reccomend is citrazine dihydrochloride...this stuff works brill [called benadryl] over the counter i think]....
of the herbs which i dont bother with for this......eyebright was quite good......but like i say i dont mess about now....one of the tabs above lasts me about two days with only some initial drousyness.....which is not so bad as i could do with the sleep anyway....

RE: Hayfever

We have a small radionics device, so we can take a pollen sample & make a bio-energetic isopathic remedy from it. Unfortunately, you'll probably need someone local that has one of these, as pollens vary region to region & month to month.

Homeopathy = 'like cures like!'
Isopathy = 'same cures same!', so uses a very dillute amount of the substance to trigger the immune system to stop over-reacting. 🙂

The bio-energetic part of the above refers to it being an bio-energetic copy of the dilluted substance, so there is no actual substance in the remedy, just the energetic signature in a liquid that is taken in drops like a Bach Flower Remedy.

Also, we find that those that suffer with hayfever, almost always have underlying food senstivities & addressing these first is more likely to affect a more permanent resolution. If it's that bad, then I suggest you look up a NAET practitioner on 😉

Also, we'll need to move this thread to the Allergy section under ailments sometime soon. So it'll be there if it goes astray.

Andrew.

RE: Hayfever

Thanks all of you for the advice and links. I've worked my way through the medicine cabinet overe the years. M found that Boots have an offer - a weeks supply of druuuuuugs for 75p which is cheaper than my doc can prescribe them.. they are citrazine dihydrochloride so the same as Benedryl if anyone uses those. Got regular eyedrops, but am gonna look into the others in a few weeks when these are out of date (whats the point in eye drops when they only last a couple of weeks.)

NAET.. I'm gonna have to read up on this, it keeps popping up..

Gonna cave in and treat myself to some kinesiology someday too..
XF, how's yours going now?

Hi Gussie. We used applied kineosology to detect the weakness when we treat with NAET. You can find out more on our website or link Andrew posted above. Andrew has had lots of NAET so you can always pick his brain. It's a lot easier since he had a brutal haircut on Friday. Ha ha...:D
