Hi, I am 23 years old and have been gaining on pounds and this is getting to me. The thing is that after several efforts of exercise and dieting, I don’t seem to get any slimmer! There are many ways to lose weight, but I have exhausted all the ways I know. I have consulted a few people but all of them have been telling me the same thing. It isn’t helping me and only making my fears worse.

Is there some way to make me feel better!!!

Hiya

Why do you want to lose weight?

Just answering that one question can go some way towards giving you the answer you seek.

Until you learn to love yourself as you are - because, like it or not that's all you've got - you won't successfully lose weight. So look in the mirror every day and tell yourself how gorgeous you are!

Unexplained weight gain can be very frustrating can't it? Sometimes just having a guide and the knowledge is you need! But don't despair there are way's that you can do it and it maintain despite whatever you've tried previously. Also, ask yourself why you eat so much. Go beyond "Because crisps taste great."

Try keeping a food diary. Write down EVERYTHING you eat. I used to think I didn't eat much and couldn't understand why I was putting on weight. I kept a food diary for a week and realised that all the little bits I picked on through the day were the reason I was putting on weight. It sounds boring but start the day with a filling breakfast - porridge (if you like that), weetabix, shredded wheat etc and then you won't feel so tempted to pick later on in the day. Good luck and try not to worry too much.

The only way to loose weight is to consume fewer calories than you burn off, so ultimately you need to eat less and exercise more.

Easier said than done I know but one the "science" is learned, the rest kinda follows suit. Cut out processed, high fat foods and eat mainly fruit/veg/pulses/grains/seeds and drink plenty of water (around 2 litres a day - more if you're exercising). Buy yourself a nice cook book for healthy meals that are easy to make quickly - so you don't get tempted to open a packet of high-calorie bad food, or go to the takeaway!

we weigh ourselves weekly and give each other motivation and tips for loosing weight.

Hope to see you there.

An easy way to lose some weight.
For breakfast, eat a lot of nuts. Then drink a whole lot of water.
By the time its lunch or dinner you will feel VERY full, because the nuts expand. Rinse and repeat.
Hope that helped. 🙂

Nuts are acutally protein, and protein makes us feel fuller than carbohydrates. So always choose foods higher in protein rather than carbs. eg, choose rice over pasta/potatoes.

But they're also high in calories which isn't so good for dieters. Have to get the balance right.

Hiya

You haven't mentioned your current weight, age or lifestyle, as these are factors which need to be examined. As we grow older, our bodies do tend to carry a little more weight. Is this substantial weight gain, a change in lifestlye, or have your circumstances and environment changed, perhaps something has been troubling you, if any of these have occurred recently, yo may be able to pinpoint the stimulus for the weight gain.

Also consider how mch you eat, eating too little or infrequently can cause weight gain.

Hi

Its not an easy thing is it, i was watching Oprah today and some of the people on there had lost in the region of 500 lbs. Most of them had turned to food because of how they felt about themselves, i think that is how most of it starts, i know i just put weight on year after year because of the relationship i was in, now years later its so hard to get off, when i have that 'last' peice of cake, or just 'one' piece of chocolate and i aim to start the diet tomorrow, its all a load of rubbish, i can count on one hand times i have started a diet and never even got to the end of the week before i spoilt it, i think 'dieters' should be changed into another word linked to sensible eating, because (and not every one does) if you are prone to weight gain, im afraid its a long term thing, i cannot go any longer kidding myself that i am comfortable and its an age thing, i have heartburn, i feel unfit, and most of all uncomfortable in all that i wear.
I lost weight years ago after i had my daughter and gained stones, i was always a neat size 12, now two/three sizes bigger i struggle to get any pounds off, the only way to do it is exercise, and healthy eating, the slimming world plan is a fabulous way to loose weight (i know, then why am i so big) but honestly if you stick to it, you dont go hungry and it does work, its the exercise i struggle with.
You can access the site online to see what it offers, and if you join a class it gives you motivation.
There is also a link on here.
So good luck.
If you do have trouble after diet and exercising loosing weight then you may want to pop along to your doctor incase its something else.
I know running is a great way to loose weight, if you enjoy it.

Hi buddy,
I don't know whether u had practiced YOGA or not. But it makes your body to function properly in all aspects. All you have to do is just have balanced diet with lots and lots of water(5 Litres/day) intake. Last but not least it demands your strong dedication too.
-Have a healthy life...

I would concur with this. I have struggled with weight issues all of my life but recently found the Slimming World plan. I don't pretend to know the science behind it, but I have stuck pretty much to the plan, eaten around as much as I would normally eat and never felt hungry. I have lost over 3 stone since the beginning of the year!

I do think it is a question of finding what suits you though. I used to think all of the diet plans out there were the same old....same old......, but they aren't.

I really do empathise with the feeling of panic that you get when you try and try but don't lose anything. Please try not to - you will find something that suits you, there may be a lot of trial and error before you do. Rather than jump from one plan to another, I would suggest you keep at one for at least a couple of months before you bin it. Sometimes your body needs a bit of time to get used to a new regime before it responds positively.

Good luck

Take your time cooking/preparing meals and eat them slower - if you eat raw salad it takes longer to eat so you feel fuller quicker. And they are super good for you!

Often it is a lot more than losing the weight but having a need to explore why we are overweight in the first place, do you REALLY want to be slimmer and if so why?

Are you looking at the total amount of weight you wish to lose or setting small targets you can work towards that as part of a bigger picture would make a difference.

Do you sabatage your good efforts? If so why.

For some it is a case of working out what you really want and why, others benefit from some coaching which allows them to explore in greater detail what the weight loss means to them, helps them set a clear weight loss strategy to help them along the way and how they will deal with slip ups along the way.

Good luck. Take each day at a time.

Kind regards
Aly

ive put on loads of weight since i had my daughter 2.5 yrs ago, and now im more determined than ever to lose the weight cos i went through an old suitcase of clothes the other day and someof my old clothes were in there, and none or them would even fit me anymore - by a long shot. and these are clothes that i wore only 4 yrs ago - im 22 now.
i did atkins diet about 5 yrs ago, and that worked for a little while, but then stopped working. im now going to do weight watchers on the points thing cos i think its easier than just watching what u eat.

i think it just depends on how much u want to lose tho as to wot would work for u.

ask yourself a simple question,
what are you doing to prevent yourself losing weight?

if you know the theory and everyone is telling you its about consuming less calories than you expend. it cmes down to the fact that you are stopping yourself by doing something, eg not expendng the calories or consuming too many. botttom line is eat less exercise more.
there are medical conditions that make it hard to achieve, and drugs that also make it hard but from clinical experience it is almost always a mental strength issue that prevents the weight loss. you mention you have "tried", simply by using the word try,you give yourself an opportunity to fail, dont try it........do it
best regards

Yes, the formula is true: eat less + exercise more = weight loss. Very easy and straight forward, no? Why do people find it so hard to lose weight, then? Well, in my experience, this equation only refers to the 'physical' self and our eating habits are strongly linked to our 'emotional selves'. So if you have difficulty losing weight, I'd start by asking what are the triggers that lead to you eating too many foods that you know are more likely to keep you the weight you are. This is often a difficult thing to do by yourself, so in general, I'd say consult a professional who specialises in helping people overcome 'self-sabotage'. For this you can check out Hypnotherapy, Emotional Freedom Technique and the like - approaches that help to unravel our emotional self. Always check they're suitably trained, a member of a professional association and that they really do specialise in helping people with weight problems.

I've had the same problem...what I started to do was eat healthier, it was working but not enough. I started exercising more and losing more. Finally I found a workout video that worked. It's Jillian Micheals 30 day shred. It guarantees that you lose 20lbs in 30 days. I gave it a try and I had lost 15lbs in 2 weeks...I was amazed! It was also great because I didn't have to do it for an hour, just 20minutes a day. Good luck!

An Advice!!!

Here are some of the few points that might help you.
Make a commitment

Permanent weight loss takes time and effort. It requires focus and a lifelong commitment. Make sure that you're ready to make permanent changes and that you do so for the right reasons.
No one else can make you lose weight. In fact, external pressure — often from people closest to you — may make matters worse. You must undertake diet and exercise changes to please yourself.
2. Get emotional support Only you can help yourself lose weight by taking responsibility for your own behavior. But that doesn't mean that you have to do everything alone. Seek support when needed from your partner, family and friends.
Pick people who you know want only the best for you and who will encourage you.
3. Set a realistic goal
When you're considering what to expect from your new eating and exercise plan, be realistic. Healthy weight loss occurs slowly and steadily. Aim to lose 1 to 2 pounds a week. To do this, you need to burn 500 to 1,000 calories more than you consume each day through a low-calorie diet and regular exercise. Losing weight more rapidly means losing water weight or muscle tissue, rather than fat.
4. Enjoy healthier foods Adopting a new eating style that promotes weight loss must include lowering your total calorie intake. But decreasing calories need not mean giving up taste, satisfaction or even ease of meal preparation. One way you can lower your calorie intake is by eating more plant-based foods — fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
And also have a look at the [DLMURL="http://www.heart-health-resources.com/healthy-weight-loss.html"]weight loss info[/DLMURL] that might help you more.:)
