Hi LiverpoolLou and welcome to Healthypages.
Wow, you've got a lot going on.
Is the underactive thyroid confirmed, or is it just that you've had the results of a first blood test and are starting the monitoring process?
What anti depressants are you taking? Were you feeling as tired before taking them, or as a result of them?
Have you managed to link the headaches to anything in particular? Hormones? Foodstuffs etc.?
What exercise do you undertake?
For some people it's possible to oversleep, and then they will feel like they haven't slept enough. It may be a case that a little exercise helps, or making oneself go to bed a little later and/or wake up a little sooner, can encourage better sleep patterns.
You also say you have nightmares. Do you believe these are related to anything in your life? anxieties? work stresses? relationships? or suchlike.
Do you know that vegetarians are more likely to have Vit B12 deficiency - which causes extreme tiredness?
Hi all. I came here for a similar question, but instead of starting another thread, I'd like to know if anyone can advise how I can deal with extreme tiredness. I am 38 y.o, if this information helps. I figured in a bad accident a few months ago and I have been experiencing what my auto accident injury chiropractor calls stress-related problems. Like OP above, I am vegetarian and have been for 4 years. I am on a lot of meds to deal with my injuries. Also, is there any way to find out if someone is Vitamin B12 Deficient? I don't know if I am, but I want to find out.

Hi and welcome to this forum!
Since you say you are 'on a lot of meds', have you looked at all the side effects of these to see if they might be causing your extreme tiredness.
When did this extreme tiredness start or is it ongoing? Have you asked your GP about it?
Here is a link to the symptoms of Vit B12 deficiency.
Your GP can test for B12 deficiency. I was tested earlier this year .
Tiredness can also be a sign of stress and depression - which your chiropractor sees as a factor in your recovery.
So as well as checking dietary causes and side effects of drugs (a lot of pain killers cause sedation) you may need to look at the psychological effects of your accident. You may have PTSD , you may be stressed by financial issues if you are unable to work as a result of the accident. If pain is a problem then that can be a cause of depression and fatigue.
There are a variety of non drug options for dealing with all such issues but they need to be identified first so I do suggest you need to talk to your Doctor
It seems you might be suffering from depression which results in mental and physical fatigue and a strong compulsions for long periods of sleep.
There are other causes to mental fatigue such as diet and ironically a lack of physical exercise.
One thing that may be able to help with your fatigue would be socialising more with your friends/family or even random acquaintances in public areas. There are numerous studies that indicate a strong correlation between mental health/activity and social interaction. Instead of staying in the house the entire day, going for walks outside or visiting family and friends can help revitalise the body and mind.
Other solutions for fatigue would include essential oils. Keep in mind that the effects of essential oils vary between individuals so the effects could be different depending on the type of essential oil and the user.
That being said:
Eucalyptus Globulus, Sweet Basil, Peppermint, Neroli, Rosemary, Geranium, Lemon and Lime. These oils have a reputation for serving as a mental stimulant and reducing mental and physical fatigue.
Wishing you a happy and healthy life!
First of all,
Just clam down and relax because you are thinking A Lot about the things. Thyroid can be control with medicines without any abstinence. For sleep just do some light exercise and get a head massage and which thing I prefer for sleep is meditation,Nothing is better than silence.
All the best.

Tiredness can be the results of mineral deficiency but if you are taking lot's of med's, it can be the result of those (side effect) as well. I'm not taking any meds but I used to feel tired, until I have found a very good (bio-available) mineral supplement. Since I'm taking this, I feel more energetic, the stiffness from my back has gone, and my muscles become firm again. This mineral supplement contains humic and fulvic acids, which have over 80 essential minerals, trace-minerals and micro nutrients so it is very good.
The tiredness, head-ache and body aches can be the result of micro-nutrient deficiency. I would certainly look for a very good (bio-available) mineral supplement, and natural (not synthetic) vitamin complex.
Are you having enough liquid?
Or enough salt?

I know this is an old thread but maybe you or someone reading it can still get some advice :). The first thing I would recommend is getting all possible tests, maybe it is easily identifiable and internal. Being constantly tired is often connected with various thyroid problems. I know that coffee may not fix this state of perpetual tiredness (+ the debate whether it is healthy or nor continues) but what I can recommend as a short-term solution is a peppermint essential oil. I use it for many issues (such as back aches) but it is a perfect substitute for coffee/energy drinks and wakes me up instantly. It has a really really strong minty smell so if you're not up for that I suggest looking for other alternative, for those who are curious where I got it from: .
