Has anyone any experience of the mirena coil? My doctor has recommended it for me but as I suffered quite badly with side effects when I took the combined pill I am a little reluctant to use this incase of a similar thing happening!
Hope you can help!

RE: mirena ius

Hello Little My and welcome to HP.

Yes, I have had the Mirena for about a year now. I have had no problems with it at all. The amount of hormone secreted by the coil is very very low. don't forget that the device is in place for 5 years and is very slowly secreting the hormone in to your body.

As your doctor recommended it to you, they must be fairly confident that this would be good for you given your past medical history?

I would advise you to discuss any concerns with your GP.

good luck

RE: mirena ius

thanks to both of you for your advice. Unfortunately I had been given incorrect advice about this coil and the doctor (different one) at the family planning clininc refused to fit it as I haven't had any children yet. So instead I have been given the mini pill as I was a little worried about the combined pill as I hated it last time and scared of hating the 3 month injection. So here goes... just have to wait and see how I feel on this!

Hi Little,I have heard this a lot about women who havent had children but let me put you straight (its up to you not anyone else as to whether you have the merina in or not) they have no right at all to refuse you it due to that!!!!!! I know girls as young as 16, 17 and so on without kids who have them in. xxxx
