I have suspected Seborrheic dermatitis and was prescribed Fucidin cream. My eyebrows are probably the worst and are very red and flaky, also feel I am losing eyebrow hair 🙁 my scalp has also been itchy and dandruff like. I have tried head and shoulders (with no effect) and neutrogena t gel (which has helped the itching but still have the dandruff issue but not as bad). I was also prescribed Betnovate scalp medication which did help a good bit..

On the cream, it says to apply the cream twice a day. Should I apply this cream twice a day all over my face or wait till it is bad to apply it?

Apply it only to the areas that are affected.

The problem with pharmaceutical ointments, wheter or not they work, is that they don't address the underlying cause.

Reading your post I couldn't help thinking it sounds distinctly like an essential fatty acid deficiency...

Agreed about the ointments - but I don't diagnose over the internet. Plus not everyone wants a complementary medicine approach.

I don't think essential fatty acid deficiency is that common but I wouldn't know the symptoms anyway - its not my field. I was actually just answering the question that Kellie01 asked.

how I cured my facial Seb derm

just wanted to share this with anyone suffering the misery of seb deem who wants to give it a try. I had chronic sd on my face and it seems 100% cured now. At first I was prescribed hydrocortisone ream that made it much, much worse.
The only thing my skin could tolerate was coconut oil. Organic virgin stuff from the health food store. Also I took probiotics, evening primrose and oregano oil capsules and zinc supplements. If my skin could tolerate it I mixed a drop of oregano oil into the coconut oil. Also adding coconut oil to the diet is great. As is exposing your skin to 5 or 10 minutes of sunshine a day.
Also cut out all sugars, too much fruits and cut down on carbs.
This is because sd is an internal fungal/yeast thing and it needs to be treated internally to get to the root of the problem. Both coconut oil and oregano oil are powerful antifungals. Pharmacy meds perpetuate it and make it worse in my opinion. The cure took I think around 10 days for me, I thought I would have this problem for the rest of my life. By the way coconut oil is a great moisturiser for anyone. I didn't have the scalp problems but I've heard it can be used also for that. Hope this helps someone. Take care, best, Antipodean x

One particular yeast is implicated as is the immune system - but it is one of those problems that has multiple factors involved - including stress.

Sterods like hydrocortisone just reduce the inflammation but I agree they don't address the underlying cause at all.

Coconut Oil is the basis of one old fashioned pharmaceutical product Compound Coconut ointment which was very effective
