Hi
Just wondering if any of you lovely people can offer any advice?
I get very dry hands, which I can control most of the time by moisturising regularly. But I find that the skin at the corners of my thumb nails keeps splitting quite a bit which is really painful, no matter what creams I use on my hands this still keeps happening. I already have B12 injections (and I believe that the b12 deficientcy can cause the corner of the mouth to split), I am just wondering if this could also be the problem with my hands and would it be worth having the injections more frequently, I currently have the injection every 10 wks.
My diet isn't the best, my mum suffers with psoriasis and I have noticed that I have a patch of it on my knee, so maybe there is a dietry problem?
any advice appreciated. x
I get exactly the same, particularly in winter or when I've done a lot of cleaning or gardening, which is not good for a massage therapist!
I have used all the moisturisers and find Neutrogena Norwegian Formula the best, but what really gets rid of it is neat tea tree oil - just a drop on the crack, morning and night. I know someone will tell me it is dangerous to use essential oils neat on the skin, but this works and I've survived and with crack-free thumbs 🙂
Hi Lilyflower!
About your sore mouth corners, I get that when I am deficient in iron. Could that be the case for you as well? These little symptoms can be handy: from an annoying little problem you can tell that what's wrong, before things get more serious. Useful.
My fingers, especially my thumbs, are the same as yours. They don't half hurt! Though I know B12 is important for all sorts of things, I don't think that is connected with it. Lack of B12 makes your fingers tingle, which is different from cracking.
For me, cracked fingers point to either lack of zinc, vitamin C and/or lutein (in kale especially but also in sweetcorn, winter squash, spinach, pistachio's, red grapes)
My son has psoriasis, so I have looked that up as well: omega 3 fish oil and vitamin D help, also vitamin A sometimes.
Well, there you have it.
And a healthy diet is always good for everything!:FIFangel:
Coconut oil is very good to be taken internally and applied to the skin ..

Coconut oil sounds helpful for topical application. Tee tree oil too to prevent the cracks from becoming infected.
The best though is internal nutrition. Lack of omega oils is implicated in many skin conditions, especially omega-3 from marine animals - fish oil, krill oil, and/or eating oily fish 3 times a week - ocean salmon, herring, mackerel, sardines, and fresh (not tinned tuna). So taking enough omega-3 oil will benefit your whole body, especially your skin, brain and the cells of your gut from top to bottom. Added to this vitamin C and zinc will usually make a difference as they are both involved in cell structure. Vitamin E is needed to recycle vitamin C, so that should be included. In the winter months we all get short of vitamin D, the sunshine vitamin. I personally take 5000I.U. daily and there has been an improvement in immune function.
Cracks at the corners of the mouth (Angular cheilitis) have various causes including fungal attack, iron, folate and B12 deficiency, also diabetes, anaemia and a weakened immune system can be involved. If you find you can't sort it out, maybe get checked out by Dr.
Hi
Thank you for the replies and suggestions. I think I will take a good look at my diet as a first step and maybe invest in a good quality multi vitamin, then see how things go.

It is always best to address the cause of course, which is probably the lack of good food in your case. However, to alleviate the symptoms, my husband who suffers from painful splits on his heels, recommends bathing your hands in urine! :eeeK:
Hi friend, According to me that we must be take upkeep of the skin health. Renewed juices are
the finest for skin fitness. Lime tea consumes anti-inflammatory & antioxidant possessions, & it is
Protective to the cell skin. It is even supposed to help in plummeting the danger of skin cancer................

You might want to try this, a little crazy as it uses shaving foam but have heard it does work well - Mommy Medicine: Treating sore, cracked and stinky feet | ksl.com
Calamine and rose water would be the best choice for a sensitive skin type as they are not to stronger on the skin.
Rose water is good indeed.
Have you solved your problems already?
I agree with Derek and Nice_1
Tea Tree oil is actually one of the very few essential oils that is safe to apply directly to the skin, it can help with healing and preventing infection. Important to note however, is that tea tree oil is drying, so it could make your skin drier than it already is!
Coconut oil is also great, not only is it moisturizing but it has antibacterial properties.
Coconut oil can help with psoriasis as well.
I actually make a moisturizer with coconut oil and tea tree oil and I've been using it on my face for months (the exact recipe can be found on my site) It completely changed my skin (for the better). My face isn't dry, no more acne and it looks like I've spent tons of $$ getting facials because my skin is totally glowing.
Coconut oil is awesome!
All that said, if you have a poor diet, that might be the first thing you should focus on. Cure your body from the inside out. If you're pressed for time every day, look into Juicing (Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead is a good documentary about the subject). Personally I have added one home made juice a day that's packed with veggies and a little fruit (for flavor) and I've been seeing some amazing results.
Good luck!
Hello Lily flower,
I totally with Derek and with Caroline also. Tea tree is an amazing essential oil that you could use but your nutrition is what you should take care first. You can add some calcium and some Brewer's yeast to your diet.
I personal have the same problem and i use the following natural recipe for my chapped hands:
100 ml olive oil, 20 olive leaves, lemon juice
Put the olive oil and the olive leaves in a glass bottle and leave them for 24 hours. Add a few drops of fresh lemon juice in 1 teaspoon of the mixture you made and lightly massage your nails and hands. After 20 days your will see a difference!
Good luck!
Tea tree is good and can be used to solve all your problems.
