It seems to happen when I'm a bit nervous or agitated mostly (even if I'm only a little nervous that I can barely notice it, I'm not exactly experiencing intense fear or having a panic attack or anything!), but it can also happen when I'm doing nothing. I don't think I'm allergic to anything, the only symptom is very random and occasional pricky skin.
It lasts a minute or 2 but it's so intense I can't bear it, it travels all over my body, e.g. it'll travel up my back and my face, then my arms and neck. It's like a cluster of hot pinpricks that I can't stop for the short time it lasts.
It's just random.
Does anyone have any ideas? I'm 21 and male, it started when I was 12 or so and lasted a year or 2, then it stopped for years and has started happening again a few months ago, nothing has changed.
Please advise, it's not like it's there for hours every day but I don't know when it's going to happen.

It could be one of several things. Your GP is in a position to send you for tests to find out what it actually is.
Are you perimenopausal, menopausal or post menopausal? I know that hormones can cause that effect. I used to have intense itching on the back of my hands at night and wake up with red scratch marks. Started using bioidentical hormones and no problems since. You need to see a doctor who knows how to prescribe hormones. Menopause expert or endocrinologist.
