We have two. Love them both! Is yours going to be just for heating, or cooking too? Ours are room heaters, but we frequently open the doors and make toast, and have a kettle of water on the top which is useful for endless tea drinking!

Hi Star

We have one which we use mostly when the central heating is on the blink or when it's not worth putting it on. It's excellent! As Jabba says you can keep a kettle or cook stew on top. Can be a bit dusty getting the ashes out, but it more than pays off for the lovely heat it gives out (and low carbon emissions too!).

The ash is good in the garden - helping to keep slugs at bay or added to the cpmpost heap.

Hi Jabba, just heating, but room for a kettle. :), We just lit it there to see how it was working and the heat is something else, we put it in the kitchen:D

how exciting Star! wood fire is so gratifying from lighting it with kindling wood...and sitting by its warm, orange glow...listening to the odd crackle...opens up a whole lot of interesting chores of collecting kindling to chopping and stacking wood and so on.very pleased for you for nothing quite matches a fire does it?. luckily wood does not produce stacks of ashes as coal does. Clearing ashes of more than one fire is what I do almost everyday, does not take a minute!I am feeling goofy at the thought of it! Hope you have lots of relaxing evenings by that fire.

Hi Star,

We have a multi-fuel stove in our lounge, which I had installed about 12 years ago and I couldn't imagine the house without one.

It keeps the whole house snug, needs very little attention and is a good conversation opener for visitors!

Enjoy yours 🙂

Should add that I don't clear the ash everyday - it works better if you allow the ash to accumulate over a week or two (or more if the logs burn quickly and there is little ash) as it establishes a 'bed' and you use less logs. Unlike Caroline, I have never found the ash to be a deterrent to slugs. I sprinkle it round fruit bushes and sometimes on to the compost heap, but always move the compost about a bit on the surface, so that it doesn't compact.

Getting good value from the stove today, it is bitter cold, I love it, and it looks good 🙂

jnani your description is lovely, but a fire can be so lovely to look at.

gaiaholistix I want to put a smaller one in my sitting, room, hopefully soon 🙂

Yes we are all stocked up with wood and coke just in time for this cold spell. Brrrrrr 😉

My Dad has a bungalow with a smaller stove in his lounge and it is very effective. He keeps his door ajar and the heat travels into the other rooms really well.

The trick is, to see if you can sit in the evening beside a lit one and not nod off 😀
