Has anyone had any objects and just found the energy of previous occupants too overwhelming?
I only recall one instance of such kind. About 5 years ago I bought an antique garnet pendant. I wore it straight away and kept it on, within moments my head started to ache with a very nauseous feeling along with it.
Soon the reason came into my awareness. I removed it. The headache went almost that instance. Washed it and did Reiki symbol on it and that was the end of it.
Yeah, fleur - jnani's right about clearing. You can use Reiki, a bell, sage smudging, toning - there's loads of things you can use to clear the energy
Do you mind sharing the nature of the particular object?

I realise Fiona there are various methods for clearing :).
My reason for asking this question is...
Someone I love is going through a great deal of emotional trauma....to the point she is now having to sell her posessions, and even that isn't going to make ends meet.
I have bought something from her, a few hundred pounds, ....more than it's worth really, but I didnt' think it right to be loaning or giving a lump of money, and she asked me if I wanted to buy it. So in my way I am just trying to help. Yes it is a purchase of usefulness and she is happy it has come to a good home.
She has more things which she may come to sell....but I am a little concerned of having it about....although she does have some very beautiful items and always had similar taste to me.
There has been a lot of negative charge energy all around these pieces..
I have to say 10 years ago I would probably have quietly scoffed at this, but then I bought a board game called UBI from a charity shop. (My DH and I used to play a lot of strategy board games). The first time we played it, I felt horrible, and I developed a revulsion of handing the pieces - no obvious reason for this. It say under the coffee table for a week, and I just got this horrible feeling from it, so I moved it to the spare room, almost forgot about it, as the spare room was on a different level in the house, and we could easily not go there for several weeks at a time. So one day when I wondered into the room I was almost stunned by the feeling I got. I then had the problem of how to dispose of it, as I developed a fear of travelling with it as well to take it elsewhere. In the end I burned it in the BBQ. Never before or since have I had that feeling from an inanimate object. Even writing about it now makes me feel a bit icky.
I would agree that objects can pick up vibes from past owners. i have felt this particularly from jewelery, but there is no reason why any other object may not do the same. if you wish to keep it I would definitely 'clear' it in some way - as suggested by jnani. If after that it still held the unwanted vibes, I'd move it on!
Thanks for your explanation, fleur.
The point about the energy of second hand goods is that there are two energies to think of: that carried by the object - and your own when you see it, think of it, come across it or whatever.
You need to clear your own energy of the sadness you feel when you see the object. You can do this by giving it to someone who will value it - without telling them the story of how you came by it, since the story will add to the energy of the object and to the energy of the receiver of the gift.
Or you can do something like EFT to help you to clear your own energy. Because the truth is, you're doing a good thing for your friend. You've treated her with respect by letting her retain her dignity. You didn't just give her the money, you bought it from her. That's a good exchange for both of you ... and all you need to do is resonate with that - lol! EFT is a quick and easy way to find yourself with good energy around the object.
Something to think about ...

Good points there thankyou...I will conduct energy clearing on both aspects soon.
