I love this fragranceand regularly buy the sticks, soaps and perfume oils. However I've recently tried to buy some from ashop that has always stocked it and the proprieter told me that he is no longer stocking Sai Baba Nag Champa as there are issues about the working practices and conditions for the workers who produce it. He implied that they are using child labour and exploiting the workers by paying them very little, in poor working conditions, whilst SSB and his cohorts are reaping the profits and rewards for themselves. He sold me an alternative brand of Nag Champa but, alas, the fragrance IMO is too flowery and sweet smelling.
Has anyone else heard about this?
RE: Satya Sai Baba Nag Champa - is it ethical?
I notice lots of people have read this, but not replies yet. Do you think it needs moving to the ECO friendly forum?
RE: Satya Sai Baba Nag Champa - is it ethical?
I've only just spotted this Calmer and found the question interesting. Unfortunately though I really don't know the answer.
I have to say that it wouldn't surprise me in the least if it were true. But then I also know that in India many children work and they're not all exploited - they just work.
I really don't know how you would find out what conditions Sai Baba incense is made under. Try asking bipinjoshi over on the Hinduism forum - he may know.
With love
