Hi guys
Thought I'd better warn you about an email I just found in my spam tray. It purports to be from DHL and is about a parcel being undelivered because of 'incorrect address'. It invites me to open an attachment to get details. Not thinking, like a fool, I tried to open the attachment but luckily was warned by my antivirus not to. On checking, I discover that the attachment carries a nasty Trojan virus which I can well do without. So beware everybody.
BTW I phoned DHL and the boy I spoke to didn't really get what I was talking about: he said I should reply to the email address to ask for a further tracking number (an incorrect number is given in the subject window). What I wanted was to check with DHL whether they had sent ths email. He's supposed to be getting someone to call me; I'll let you know if they do.
Meanwhile I had discovered what I needed to do by typing DHL spam email into Google.

I've had several of these - deleted them all as I know I am not expecting a parcel!!

The thing is that I am expecting a parcel so it kind of caught me on the hop. If it weren't for my antivirus I probably wouldn't be able to write this by now. To think I just merrily went to open the attachment without paying any attention.....I shall be more careful in future!

These scammers are a pain - in more ways than one!!
It's not just DHL that they're using as a name either, it's pretty much all of the major courier companies.
Just bear in mind that if the parcel couldn't be delivered due to wrong address, they would be contacting the sender, not the recipient or just returning it back to the sender.

I use DHL alot and they NEVER contact me by email - if there is a problem (there has been on two occasions) they contact the despatcher who then contacts the supplier who contacts me and I have to contact DHL online and feed in the tracking number!!!! I generally end up going to the depot to pick up the consignment myself!!
Of course, when I thought about it I realised all the above. But when I rang DHL they were so not on the ball. They told me that they do send emails but couldn't tell me what the sender's address would be. You'd think they would tell their operators to tell callers (like me) to beware of emails, especially as I told them that a virus had been detected. They couldn't have cared less, honestly, and I'm still waiting for them to call me back.

Also, bear in mind that genuine companies will typically include your full name in any emails they send you to prove that they know who you are. Spam emails, whether from apparent couriers, banks or whatever will often use a generic greeting such as "Dear customer".
