I e-mailed Welsh Water about it...here was their reply.

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the fluoridation of Water.

Dwr Cymru Welsh Water is responsible for providing its customers with
excellent quality drinking water. The addition of fluoride to drinking
water does not add to the quality of water.

The question of whether fluoride, or any other additive deemed to
provide a benefit to health, should be added to tap water is a matter
that should be decided by health authorities and the Government.
If the addition of fluoride to drinking water becomes a requirement by
law, then Dwr Cymru Welsh Water will, of course, abide by this
legislation.

There are no water treatment works in the Welsh Water Supply Area that
add fluoride to the water.
All raw waters will contain fluoride as part of their natural mineral
content, and this is not removed during the treatment processes, however
this natural content is well below the level to which fluoride would be
added for dental purposes.

The approximate natural fluoride level is around 50 micrograms per
litre.
If you have any further queries regarding your water supply, please do
not hesitate to contact me direct.

Thanks Jackie for posting that.

It looks like that's at least one water company that will only do it if they are made to by the government.

We'll all have to move to Wales to be safe. 🙂

Love and Reiki Hugs

Good for Welsh Water! What a great reply. Can I have a lift with you, Giles, when you move to Wales?

That's a very good reply from them. It seems obvious they are not for fluoridation.

Over the last few days the media has been hit, as if by a campaign behind the scenes, culminating in the Minister for the Environment (?) today making bold statements on TV etc to the effect that buying bottled water is inhumane to other people, since 25% of the world's population don't have clean drinking water, and the 'carbon footprint' of bottled water is much bigger than that of piped water, etc., etc. [I do agree that in India, where many buy bottled water, but there are no reliable trash collections, or even any at all, the eye-sore of thousands of empty plastic bottles across the ground and sides of roads and rivers is very bad.]

Anyway, I saw him end today by saying we should all drink tap water "because it is pure", and some councils are insisting that their meetings must include caraffs (sp?) of tap water, not bottled. My thought was that in such a meeting I'd take my own bottled water if only simply as a protest: There's nothing "pure" about tap water with fluoride in it. What a lier the man is.

That is, added fluoride, since as Welsh Water said, water from the ground does have a natural trace of fluoride, but very minute usually.

About bottled water V, I think that plastic bottled water IS a significant environmental hazard, and also bit of a health hazard because some of the poisons from the plastic get into the water during storage.

We should use glass bottles or paper cartons.

In my view it is better to filter tap water with a good multi-phase charcoal filter or water ionizer - these are relatively inexpensive, the running cost is pennies. The profit margins on bottled water are huge, over several 1000% - its quite alucrative business!

As you say, the Chlorine added to water is in effect like the wrapping on food - intended to protect the water - but you should take it off (ie filter the water) before consumption.

Wish that the Government would tell you to filter your tap water, because Chlorinated water has been linked to bowel, bladder and kidney cancer, spina befida, infant heart problems and miscarriage. Even a Govt White Paper admits to an association between spontaneous abortion and chlorination and recommends a reduction of exposure to chlorine.

I watched a documentary on Sky the other night "How It's Made" I think it was called. They showed how they process tap water from the time it falls from the sky to our taps.

They add numerous "chemicals" to it...all manner of powders and stuff in big vats and stir it around...some to get the sand out of it, some to get rid of bacteria....I would like to know if the stuff they add is then removed (they didn't make that clear). I have recorded that documentary and will get the list of chemical they add from it and look them up and post on here soon (if anyone's interested or am I just taking it too far!). It scares me what I could be consuming and what is it doing to us!!!

I have no sources for this, but as far as I was concerned, I thought that calcium fluoride had been proven to be beneficial to oral health. However it's too bad that toothpaste and some water supplies actually contain sodium fluoride instead.
They must presme we are all daft as brushes to gladly allow them to poison us without a second thought, and the sad fact is that many people are oblivious.

Recent findings on fluoride have been exposed - let's hope the authorities are listening! Ingestion does not improve health - it needs to be painted on your teeth.

See here.

I'm no expert on fluoride and only know what I've read, and I haven't done my own independent research to verify what I've read.

But from a young age I was reading in the few 'alternative' books around at the time that fluoride, quite simply, is a poison. So even putting on your teeth, you do digest it of course. I've read that it can be used as rat poison? Also, less-developed cultures such as in Turkish villages years ago, where their only water source was a local well, which had naturally occuring fluoride, had a simply huge percentage of all kinds of fluoride-related illnesses. The villages were basically illness-ridden, with arthritis, cancers, and babies born with deformities.

I was very surprised at how heated this subject can get. Years ago I told a young female dentist that I didn't want fluoride used, and she basically stood there and had a big rant at me, so I dropped her as my dentist instantly.

I suppose the key questions are:

1. Is there a minimum use which is safe in dentistry? I am suspicious about that.

2. The "big" topic is fluoride being forcibly fed us in drinking water, when many people object - yet there is no vote or say in the matter.

Fluoride in the water was originally effluent from aluminium manufacture. Rather than clean up their act or face massive fines, the aluminium industry sponsored research that showed, funnily enough, that fluoride is beneficial, so their pollution is actually doing us all a favour. And the theory has stuck, even though many studies show that it has no benefit and is thoroughly harmful.

I am told (it may be true), that Nazi Germany was the first country to add it to the water intentionally, after Hitler was told that it makes populations compliant.

As far as I know, however, it is not added to the water in most of Britain at this time, but it is still in the water in the USA.

However, we still have chlorine in our water. Really, we should not be letting halogens into our bodies - period.

There are some dentists that would dispute the theory that fluoride prevents dental caries and is beneficial to dental health. More important to dental health is diet, dental hygiene and genetics.

When I was a child our neighbour's children were given fluoride tabs as their teeth were so bad and it turned their teeth dark and opaque. Shame their diets weren't looked at as they lived on junk food and ate a ton of sweets. I on the other had was only allowed half a pack of maltesers on a sunday and had no fillings. I hated my mum for it back then though....

It's many years since I was "into" this subject, but I seem to remember that fluoride is in the tap water of most UK areas? Or am I getting confused with chlorine? Something has to be in tap water to keep it bacteriologically safe, one supposes. But really, years ago I am sure that almost all tap water in the UK had fluoride added. It could easily be looked up and checked online. I could do that another day, or does someone want to do it tonight?

On the subject, of course another "biggie" is toothpaste. You almost have to buy toothpaste from holistic shops in order to avoid fluoride. I've no problem with that, but I just dread what "normal" toothpaste is doing to children. Being children, they are not even aware enough to always spit it out; a lot is swallowed. And it's poison.
