Late typo correction: I don't really know whether you can "small" fluoride or not, but you can't, I think, taste or smell it. 🙂

Ah! V you got me there. You're right, you can't smell fluoride. It's the chlorine I can smell sometimes. Wot a plonker i am! (i hope you're not agreeing there?) Anyway we still have fluoride too and it's never been a problem.

However, after reading the post by 'reikiangel' saying that a dentist she knew would tell his patients not to use fluoride toothpaste if they already had it in their water. Why? I have both! Can you have too much? and if so what are the effects of that???

Believe it or not, fluoride is poisonous. So 'authorities' think they can decide what are or what are not toxic levels. I believe I remember reading that children have actually died through swallowing fluoridated tooth-paste regularly. I don't mind using it once in a blue moon, but basically it's been a life-long habit not to use it.

I don't have a ready link on this, but again believe it or not many experts say tht fluoride ruins teeth. It creates black or brown patches for some people on the teeth. The anti-fluoride lobby sometimes say that it's only added to toothpaste in order to be able to sell it on to someone. Sorry to be so vague, but again if I recall right, fluoride is just a by-product from some other industrial process, so rather than chuck it away, they sell it to toothpaste manufacturers.

All in all, fluoride is not good news.

Hi Serendipity,

Back in those days if you had too much fluoride it could affect the colour of your teeth, mostly 'mottling'. If this happened the dentist could 'bleach' the enamel to make it lighter again. I would have thought that after all these years that dosages have been adjusted to prevent this happening (I hope!).

Here is a link Venetian, (Fluoride Damages Your Brain). It should work this time!!

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2007/11/22/fluoride-damages-your-brain.aspx

There is such a lot of written material on the toxic effects of fluoride, but this is the only link I can find right now.

Thanks all for commenting on this...I will settle down infront of my computer tonight and read all the links you've posted. I find the thought of this quite scarey and drink LOADS of tap water and also use it in my cooking....I can't afford to buy this amount of bottled water!! I feel an invasion on my body - anything else they meddle with I can choose not to eat/drink/use but not TAP water!!

Coincidentally, when I went into my local independent health and herbal shop yesterday, they were just pinning up a notice to put in the window, asking people to protest about this. But one guy who was in there at the time said he was brought up in Scotland, so had fluoride in his water anyway. I'm not sure whether Britta water filters will be of any use - I use one anyway - but somewhere in one of the first links I posted is something about people being told they can filter out the fluoride. I'll have a look and come back here if I find it.

Edit to say that I can't find the piece about filtering. Sorry. Maybe I imagined it.

Do the water filters we have in the kitchen remove fluoride? I don't think they do, but theres a challenge for the manufacturers of these filters!

From what I can gather, fluoride is not easy to remove by filtration. The fluoride they add is an acid, and a water ionizer should remove it as it filters and then removes all acid elements from the water by water ionization.

Fluoride was first used by the Nazi's on concentration camp prisoners as it made the inmates sterile, docile, stupid and obedient.

Fluoride is not the only chemical that has these effects - all chemicals have a debilitating effect of one form or another. We consume tons of them - by the time a kid is 18, he will have consumed around his own body weight in chemical poisons.

The criminals behind the Government keep pushing for fluoride because in a fascist police state (where the Government are in bed with Corporations) it helps if the population is drugged - and the Nazi's showed how effective fluoride was.

Don't use fluoride toothpaste either - you can get some good fluoride free herbal ones.

Oh good Gemin1n1!! I'm glad the link was helpful 🙂

I heard on the radio once that tap water contains 650 chemicals, but not only that, there is also heavy metals in it such as lead, copper, etc., nitrites, nitrates and the Birth Pill.

Not to mention, of course.....fluoride!

Hi Sunanda,

Jamesk addresses the filtration subject, but I became aware of the fluoride problem and the battle not to have it in our water back in the 70s - I once had 2-3 good books on the topic. And alas, as James indicates, I'm just about certain Brita etc won't filter such chemicals out: those basic filters just get rid of larger stuff. Just wondering - they may get rid of the chloride, I forget - but as that's a de facto poison also, it would be worth getting rid of it. My guess is that Brita-style filters may get rid of chloride since the water tastes chloride-free after filtering.

BTW, I don't have a problem with chloride being in tap water. It has to be there to counter bacteria - otherwise the water would easily be contaminated. The way one book described it is that you can think of chloride like the wrapping on foods: it's wrapped to get it to you in good shape, but you are supposed to unwrap it (filter the chloride out in the case of tap water) before consumption! Nicely put, I thought. Drinking tap water straight is a bit like eating the wrapping along with the food, though we all have to do it at times.

I used towork for a dentist who was very anti-fluoride. He'd studied it extensively and told me that it caused long term damage to the skeleton. He always cleaned his teeth with bicarbonate of soda. The problem with adding fluoride to water is you can't manage the dosage as it will depend on how much water each individual drinks. But, quite apart from all that, should we be allowing our government to add ANYTHING to our water? What if they decide that we need anti-depressants to stop us committing suicide? Or valium to prevent riots. The thin edge of the wedge springs to mind!

The scariest thing apart from the toxicity and the cancer inducing nature of fluoridated water, is the docility thing. I have read before that the Nazis used it in their camps to render the inmates as "docile as cows".

I am really glad Jamesk that you mentioned it and thanks for that great link.

I avoid tap water at all costs and even though I have been financially strapped I have bought in reverse osmosis filtered water or spring water.

It seems imposible to entirely avoid advertising and other mass media "socialising" control techniques, I dread allowing the augmention of the power of these unwanted influences by consuming something that facilitates their gripping of my psyche.

The bottom lines on the fluoride issue are, so far as I see:

1. We don't get to choose or vote or have a referendum. Of course, if we did, most people would be swamped in pro-fluoride PR anyway. But it really should be something we have choice over. We can choose our toothpaste, but we have no control over our tap-water. It's especially damaging for children.

2. The lies and erroneous PR, and the hiding of the truth. I recall years ago going to a dental hygeinist, and I'd read that, at least then, they were giving massive doses of fluoride in mouth-rinses. So I told her I didn't want it if it had fluoride in. She got extremely angry, which was hardly professional, gave me the 'party line' in an angry way, and then gave me this mouth-wash. Not thinking, I took it, and then became aware that I think she'd conned me into taking a massive dose anyway.
