I've recently completed Reiki 2 but I am not charging as I'm starting college next week (holistic course) and I am also taking an intense course in indian head massage in october so, basically I don't want to get insurance until I get another skill.
right, that out the way!
So, over the last few weeks i've a a couple of friends who have very kindly allowed themselves to be my guinea pigs for 4 treatments each as though they were my clients, i'm keep records ect and they take an aftercare form home at the end of the session and they bring it back with them so that I can see how they have been.
I must say, I have loved receiving Reiki myself in the past but I'm also enjoying giving Reiki and I feel really good afterwards myself.
One of my friends session was last night and towards the end of the session she experianced what I call the usual colours of purple, violet and blue, I say usual because I also experiance these colours during Reiki and meditation. My friend thought she had her eyes open for a minute as she'd never experianced anything like it.
My other friend last week felt a presence in the room, whilst I was around her feet area she thought I was at the head with my hands on her head, this does not surprise me.
Was just curious is to why we have these colours, I thought some of you more experianced Reiki practioners would shed some light on this for me.
Cheers Susan xx
Hi there
For me the colours are a way of Reiki 'showing' me how that person is feeling. For example if I 'see' a lot of red then I know that the person is feeling anger somewhere in their body, blue a problem with communicating their needs and so on. Client's 'feedback' as to what they see is also helpful as it shows me that the Reiki is working in a particular area. Actually in my healing room I have in voile all the chakra colours going across the window like a curtain. It serves two purposes for me 1) when the sun shines through the window the vibration of the colours fill the room and 2) I get client's on their first visit to tell me which colour they feel most drawn to. This then gives me an idea of what their problem may be that prompted them to come to me.
As Reiki works differently with every 'channel' it chooses to work through you may find colours mean different things for you! Have fun finding out!

When people are relaxed (that's both of you)
The energies that are exchanged tend to throw up many things
Colour is only one of them
And it is different for each person
And not always the same when you retreat the same person
Just sit back and feel the energies flow
Keep a journal if you wish
You might even see more when you look back
It can take a lot of extra effort
However, it can be rewarding
And it should be private
You are also sharing peoples thoughts, dreams and problems
I have been practising Reiki for two years now and many people comment on seeing colours, but some do not see any colours at all. I have found that the colours aften relate to a chakra, base being red, sacral orange, yellow solar plexus etc.
When we discuss after the treatment how they are feeling they will often mention a colour that directly relates to an area of concern in their body, I am usually aware of this problem before hand, having completed a consultation form and it never ceases to amaze me the connection. I never suggest this to clients before a treatment but find the feedback quite interesting as it often relates to the area of problem/ concern. I do not know if this is common or noted by any other reiki practitioners but I find it fascinating.

You know I had never thought about the colours I see relating to Chakra's
I had asked someone years ago what the colours could mean that I was seeing during Reiki treatments and upon waking some mornings and was told that it was probably different for everyone.
Mainly I get yellow and pink and if I am really under the weather and stressed I see a really glossy dark blue (like nail varnish).
Funnily enough last night after reading this post I tried clearing my chakras for the 1st time ever and saw the most amazing Violet.
I have found that Reiki awakens peoples psychic ability. One of the first things you see are colours. Eventually these colours may begin to form shapes enabling you to see your spirit guides or Reiki guids and it can then be quite facinating watching what they are doing during a Reiki treatment.
Can anyone answer this: I am also wondering when I see colours of the chakras, does it mean, if say you are at the heart and you see yellow and on the chakra system the heart colour is green is this because they are out of balance? I wonder if the reiki is meant to balance the colours back to the correct state? I have been baffled by this!
I also relate the colours to the chakras . But it does vary. I don;t worry too much about it. I wont find out about any colours my patient is seeing until after the session so it isn't going to change what I do. Not all my clients see colours - and they don;t all see the same colours. Purple is by far the most common but I have also had green, pink and blue mentioned over the years.. I used to work with my eyes shut a lot of the time so I sued to see colours when I was giving reiki. I could sometimes relate that to how the person is feeling or any issues they may have. However I keep my eyes open these days so I don't see any colours myself
Being attuned certainly helped MY psychic development - but I don't feel the colours anyone sees are an indication of spirit activity. There was one lady who one week saw winged figures dressed all in white and gold. As she died unexpectedly less than a week later I have often wondered what she saw and whether it was significant! I have had some of my more intuitive patients become aware of spirit being in the room while they are being treated .
The colours of the chakras is a 'recent' western add-on in truth.
The chakras are mentioned in ancient texts such as the upanisads, though this mentions that they are energy centres, they each have names, and a 'sound' (can be read as 'frequency').
It's in recent times that the west has taken the seven major chakras and associated it with the seven 'traditional' colours of the rainbow. In the ancient texts there were no colours associated with them, even if colours were depicted in images drawn of them, where different images would be contradictory in terms of colours. The west 'new age' movement kind of standardized the colours for their own reasons (whatever they may be).
So, if you see yellow at the heart chakra, great... does it matter.... well... does the chakra feel unbalanced is what really matters... do you sense that it needs working on?
There are various myths created around chakras and other things, the colours of them being just one. The other is that you should 'open' the chakras at the start of the healing session and 'close' the chakras at the end of the session. In the ancient texts, the only time all the chakras would be closed is when the physical body was dead.
Just go with your intuition as to what feels unbalanced and what needs energy/healing.

I suspect the chakra colours is a mixture of two things: the theosophical channelings about "rays" (divine emenations of different qualities, that correlate to the rainbow colours), plus a bit of EM knowledge. By which I mean, linking the visible colour spectrum to the sonic spectrum. Thus the "low" root chakra note gets linked with red, etc.
Gylz, closing the chakras at the end of a session is one of my favourite myths
To me, it's similar to actual light. Light is all the colours, just like Reiki. When we see particular colours, it's the colour and type of energy that is needed at that area at that time.
You mentioned purple, violet and blue, they're very high energy spiritual colours and deal with the upper chakras. Maybe your friend hasn't been treating these areas with a lot of self love and they were a bit neglected and needed cleansing?
Just found this site and happy i have. I have done first degree in Reiki and I see colours when I self heal and sometimes just before I go to bed. Usually purple and gold, sometimes green but mainly purple. Its like it comes in waves. If I'm in the dark i can often still see the colours when I open my eyes. Occasionally i get a flash of white but it feels like its coming from behind me if that makes sense. Its so bright it makes squint even tho i have my eyes shut. Its only a quick burst like a camera flash. Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks
Does it matter if anyone has or has not experienced this? We all experience different things with reiki and it shouldn't need validation from anyone else to make it real. It is what YOU experience and that is all that matters.

It was Annie Besant who first assigned colors to the chakras/rays. Prior to that time, chakras/rays were only a concept that embodied some psychological traits/values and existed as colorless vibrations.
That's interesting LightBody, thanks! When I have some free time I'll look her up, I enjoyed Leadbetter's book about auras..
This is very interesting. I've attained my level 2 Reiki somewhat recently but I have been seeing auras for years. The teacher of the Reiki class found out about this and asked me to watch and tell her what I saw.
At one point, there was a student on the table getting a treatment. I looked at his leg and there was blue there. It was, weak at best. I gave it a minute or two while the others were treating the other end of him. What I saw was that the blue was pushed out of the way and replaced by a strong purple. Purple like the singer Prince wears. That purple was strong! At least five times as strong as the blue had been.
I can tell you that I have never seen a chakra glow or put off color but I've seen energy push and move along and around a body as well as inanimate objects.
So, I'm looking at the students leg, midway between the knee and foot. Blue is replaced by purple as the treatment goes along.
So, my question is this: I'm looking at the legs, that color is suppose to be red for the chakra down there.
I'm going to guess and say that I was not seeing chakra but the students aura and then the healing energy pushed or channelled into him from the teacher/ other 2 students. I was not aware that purple was a healing color.
What do ya'll think the deal is with this??
Thank you! -Sauder

I don't think you are seeing chakras. I think you are seeing a damaged part being changed to a healed part. The colours are the way your brain interprets this and could be completely different ( or indeed, not colours at all) for someone else.
So, my question is this: I'm looking at the legs, that color is suppose to be red for the chakra down there.
And my question is, why should it be red? (see my post #9 above)
I studied massage therapies a long time before I did reiki, and I was always guided by colours as well as images that I would relate to feelings. It is something that I relate to energy, and is perhaps best understood by how the colours feel to the practitioner, as there are many shades of the same colour that all have a different feel to them.
It is developing (or trusting) the intuitive understanding of the colours, that allows us to adjust our movement to give the best treatment. .
