Talk on Reiki

Hi Heaven-Spirit.

I've done a lot of public speaking, not just as a hypnotherapist but also in my previous career.

I have a couple of different hypnotherapy talks/demonstrations that I do. Based on one of those, I would suggest something along the lines of the following structure.

Background/history of Reiki - keep the history side light, it's the part that most bores people so I tend to keep it light and recommend one or two good books on the subject.

A short section dispelling any myths surrounding your therapy is also good and you can make this interactive by getting the audience to offer up some they may have heard.

Then, a section on what Reiki can help and what it can't. What a treatment consists of, what a person can expect from a treatment etc. How they should go about finding a Reiki practitioner, details of regulation bodies etc. Also worth throwing this part open slightly and let audience members tell of any experiences they have had with Reiki.

Then, a short demonstration, ideally on someone who has the kind of problem where they should notice an immediate change. Discuss the treatment with the person afterwards in a two way conversation so the audience hear about the persons experience. Obviously you can talk about hand positions etc while giving the treatment.

Q&A session.

If you need to use notes then try to keep them in bullet point/flash card format so that you're not reading directly from your notes. I tend to just use a single card or sheet that has my running order on it in case I get side tracked, with small sub-points listed so I know what I intend to mention in each section. There is also an author I quote so I keep that particular quote in long hand in my notes in case I forget it!

The key thing to remember with public speaking is that it's not very remarkable.

Every day you have conversations with people. Those people may or may not be that interested in what you have to say and you have no idea beforehand what the conversation will be about. In fact, you have spoken millions upon millions of unprepared words to people all your life.

Public speaking is just speaking words, but this time planned and rehearsed words on a subject that you know about, to people who have attended the talk to hear what you have to say because they are already interested in the subject. Besides not being very remarkable, it's actually easier than the plethora of speaking that you have done throughout your life!

Remembering this can help with your nerves.

I am much calmer now having thought about this and how exciting it is. Yes, I have a passion for Reiki and in my dailly life love spreading the word about it.

I have got it all typed up already. This is what I plan to do.... its all very simple.... and short.

I will introduce myself and my experiences etc...
then explain What is Reiki?
What is it like to receive Reiki?
What is it like to give Reiki
Ask who has experienced Reiki and what they felt.
What are the benefits of Reiki
How do you learn Reiki
Then ask someone to volunteer for a short reiki treatment
Then end with the 5 reiki principles
Then any Questions ....

My notes are just 3 pages, so should take around 30 to 45 min., depending on how chatty the group is. I mean for crying out loud, I know these people and have done for over a year.... I am so silly!!!!

The same day I was attuned to Reiki 3 my teacher had to do a talk to a group, so she took me along. As she was talking and doing demo's I was at the back of the room offering quick treatments.

So if you have a friend that is reiki attuned, maybe you could take them along, one reason for support for you, and the other so they can do taster sessions for anyone interested whilst you do the talk

Hi, whenever I give a talk to groups I usually try to get them interested in energy by getting them into pairs,then hold out their palms to face the person they are working with, close their eyes and 'feel' when they connect with their partners energy. Another way to do this is to stand behind your partner and put your hands above their head, eyes closed and 'feel' for the energy. Usually both partners get to feel something and become aware of the energy they have around them. It usually gets a giggle or two as some people are more sensitive to this than others and you can get a lot of ooh's and aah's. (It also passes some of the time allocated so you don't have to talk for so long). I agree with taking someone else who has Reiki with you to help with this interaction. Have fun and send Reiki ahead to the situation and enjoy.

Just wanted to update you on my talk which went really well.
I was nervous but once I got talking it disappeared. I did your energy exercise Maria and it was excellent. Everyone felt really relaxed and then the mini treatment was enjoyed too. I ended it with a meditation for everyone.
I got a lot of comments afterwards and even got a letter from a fellow member saying how she and her mum enjoyed the talk and felt really relaxed.
I also have 2 appointments from the talk on Reiki. So Yay me!

By silently saying their names three times...You could invoke Archangel Gabriel, who is the communication angel, and Archangel Uriel who will help you with creatively expressing your ideas....
