Total novice here!
and just to prove my point, can anybody tell me if the free home study courses, similar to the link attached, can help?[link= http://www.reiki-secrets.com/reiki-course/1-first-principle-of-reiki.htm ]http://www.reiki-secrets.com/reiki-course/1-first-principle-of-reiki.htm[/link]
This is kind ofstrange as I've re-discovered Reiki after reading a fictional book!!! I'd heard of it amany years ago from a very dear friend who is sadly no longer with us...she spoke of Reiki healing and of auror's (correct spelling??) Now after several distressing events over the past 3 years i've heard of it again - coincidence? not sure..... I have also found some pictures whilsttrying to doa bit of research that shows hand positions working from the eyes, ears, head and down to feet... it mentions symbols on the hands or using symbols?One thing though, I did find this website at the same time, so if the above no good I do have this site. The kids always need something first butI amtrying to fill the piggyto see a practioner and then who knows I may even go further with things. At least it may help with the achs and pains of falling off horses too many times in my time!

Thanks for taking time to read this.
Love H

RE: Seeking Reiki Guidance !

Hi Hilary,

A warm welcome to the Reiki forum!

Are you just seeking information about reiki in general or was there anything specific you wanted to know?

just to prove my point, can anybody tell me if the free home study courses, similar to the link attached, can help?[link= http://www.reiki-secrets.com/reiki-course/1-first-principle-of-reiki.htm ] http://www.reiki-secrets.com/reiki-course/1-first-principle-of-reiki.htm [/link]

There's a sticky thread in student & training discussing the merits and shortcomings of correspondance courses, here's the link if you fancy checking it out. Very briefly, I think that home study courses are a waste of time, and you can learn just as much, if not more, by reading a book on the subject. For something like Reiki which is not really a 'therapy' at all, but rather a practice, it is debatable just how much you will actually gain from a home study course. In my humble opinion, learning in a group of people with a non-dogmatic teacher who offers ongoing guidance and proper course materials is the best way to go. Student interaction and peer learningis very important and yougain so much from being with other people in such a mutally supportive environment.

That's my briefest of explanations, but if you want to know anything more, just ask.

Oh- and one thing. I highly recommend a book called The Reiki Sourcebook by Bronwen and Frans Steine (pronounced Steiner.) It explains the origins of the system of reiki and is suitable for everyone- from those seeking more information right to Reiki Teachers.

Hope that helps,

Azalia x

Hello Hilary
The short answer to the above is yesReiki most certainly can help, I'm not to sure about home study courses, I guess that would depend very much on the Reiki Master that's doing them, distance attunements are good, although I personally woudn't recommend it for the 1st level of Reiki as I really do feel that each of us need a little hands on guidance to begin with.

Another good book I'd recommend is one called Practising Reiki by Jennie Austin it's only a little book but packed full of useful informationand easy toread, the ISBN No: 1-85534-362-2 and costs around £3.00

Hello hilary

I think the "sticky"to which Azalia referred above is this:

[link= http://www.healthypages.net/forum/tm.asp?m=212109 ]http://www.healthypages.net/forum/tm.asp?m=212109[/link]

(Hope I've got the right one!)

You'll find another "sticky" at the top of this, the Reiki forum, subject "Reiki books".

Hope these help.

RE: Seeking Reiki Guidance !

Hello Kachina and Holistic
Many thanks for your input and good advice. I have now ditched the home course and will start with a therapy session with a Reiki practioner and get the recommended reads. I will then hopefully be able to take things from there. I am going to Dorset for the weekend to see my parents.....my Dad an old fashioned Yorkshire copper, I don't think this will be coming up in conversation some how. !!!!

Look forward to reading alsorts next week.

RE: Seeking Reiki Guidance !

Hello again Hilary

Well, I didn't give you much advice ... just a couple of links. But glad you found them useful, and others' posts here too.

So you're from mystical, magical Cornwall. Funnily enough, I was earlier reading about St Michael's Mount, having got side-tracked in a search on soul levels in relation to another thread here.

Have you seen our County and Regional forums - they're near the bottom of the forum main page, or here:

[link= http://www.healthypages.net/forum/tt.asp?forumid=140 ]http://www.healthypages.net/forum/tt.asp?forumid=140[/link]

You'll find Cornwall, and Dorset ... enjoy your weekend with your parents; you won't be the first by any means to be a wee bit "closet" about your interests and abilities ... initially. But I'm sure you'll eventually find that all is accepted and indeed welcomed if they've got some achey bits 😉

Best wishes,

Holistic
