I've seen faces of guides while practicing Reiki though.

Hi Alex, I would say you are seeing the guides faces clairvoyantly.

I've never done this particular exercise (worth bearing in mind tho') but I've watched mediums practice transfiguration, which is where a spirit comes forward in the body and changes features or colour of eyes, etc, and it sounds very similar to what you are describing. Not saying the people are being transfigured, but if you are seeing clairvoyantly (clear-seeing), then you will see the guide on the etheric level, rather than on the physical.

Not sure if this is the same thing but I have been told by clients and fellow healers that my face changes when giving Reiki healing. My youngest daughter saw this happen one day and got quite concerned! Of course I can't see it myself but witnessed it in other healers.

I see faces when I am treating my self and also now i have started my case studies - i have always just thought they were my guides as they appear when I ask for their support and help for the reiki - they smile or laugh with me.
Now I dont feel so mad.

Yes, I have also done this exercise during my Reiki I and Reiki II courses (although I focus past the persons face by trying to look at both of their eyes at the same time, which can be quite tricky to let yourself relax and do)
Like you I found that the other persons face changed, and it did seem a little scary at the time although I was well aware I was in no danger and accepted that I was just experiencing something I've not experienced before.
I'm not sure what it was that I was seeing, but at the time I remember my intuitive feeling was that I was looking at the spirit or ethereal soul of the person I was looking at. There was no mention of our own spirit guides during the courses so that wasn't something on my mind and didn't occur to me. I think I prefer to go with what my intuition told me at the time.

wow i am so happy to see people responding to this.

it was quite alarming at first but i knew nothing bad was going to come of it, it was just my natural instinct. i have recently tried to do this again and it looks as if something is stepping in your line of vision once your eyes are out of focus (if that makes any sense) it is quite amazing, although i did get shouted at by my mum for staring in the batroom mirror "like a raving loonatic" :S oh well she understood afterwards.

Hi, that sounds like a mega experience - never happened to me - although I have seen parts of faces when meditating or concentrating - then I try too hard to focus and theyre gone! Off the subject a bit - (well the reiki bit) but still about face changing - I had the MOSt amazing experience last weekend. I went to take a supercharging (advanced Quantum Touch ) course and the guy there - who is I believe from American Indian background, did some shape shifting - OH MAN. To say I was scared was an understatement - then fascinated and then just thought WOW - I know nothing yet - I only just opened the door! His face changed to long and thin, short and fat and like animals - we all saw it - well most did. It was an amazing thing and gave me a whole new understanding of how powerful we are.
Have to say - came home and now laid low on the sofa with flu - think its spirit telling me to SIT and think , take it easy and assimilate what you learned.
These are amazing glimpses into something truly amazing. WOW.

Hi Amethyst Dreamer,

Like Moonfeather outlined earlier – this is what I believe you are experiencing, you will find very many Spiritualists will be able to fill you in on what’s going on as they practice this quite often, they use something they call a ‘cabinet’ but is no more than a purpose built tent in which a person sits, they are usually illuminated by red or blue light, but even daylight works too and are observed to go through transfigurations or something called masking.
I've seen it a few times and it can be worrying sometimes - however, what I found more interesting than the faces was the little coloured lights and especially the gathering energy and/or 'orbs' you sometimes see in the cabinet too!

For more information it may be worth asking about at your local Spiritual Church or I’m sure you could contact “Songstress” (A working Medium and Moderator on HP) for a clearer idea.

I'm not sure what it was that I was seeing, but at the time I remember my intuitive feeling was that I was looking at the spirit or ethereal soul of the person I was looking at.

Go with your intuition, Giles! I like that thought. That's the beauty about such things - they are so experiential that there is no definative answer.

I've mentioned before, that if i sit in front of a mirror and focus my eyes right, i see colour only usually around half of my head and usually turquoise. Although just lately i've been seeing white patches in my aura. The more i stay there the stronger the colours get. Sometimes it does look as though my face has changed, but i'm never too sure as it could be the colours and shading making it seem that way. At times though it does make me jump when i think that i've seen another face.
I was told by someone a while ago that i shouldn't do this as i could be evoking someone or something unpleasant. Though someones else told me that this was rubbish as Reiki naturally protects you.
On one occassion, my face was like a dark metallic purple..even the whites of my eyes. Most of the time i seem to have three bands of colour down my face..yellow,red and purple; i look like a flag!! I wish i could somehow tape what i see, i would love to show my daughters and family. When i tell them, they nod but look as though i've gone around the bend.
I would love to be able to see others auras, but i only seem to see the odd patch of colour. My three cats have got green auras my dog has a yellow one.
I have also found that if i stare at say my cat in a relaxed way, and then close my eyes, i can with my eyes closed still see its outline but coloured in green and the image stays there for ages. Also if i do the same with my hand, again i see the outline of my hand which is usually coloured in turquoise.
Like i've said before, it's of no use to me. I recently had my eyes checked;it took an hour as she checked my perlipheral vision and other things. She asked if i saw flashes or after images, which i do. She said that she will be writing to my doctor to arrange tests onmy 'rods' and 'cones' at the eye hospital; but i don't see the need to go, it's not bothering me too much.

I have not had the exact same experience as you, but I do see streams of faces, mostly unknown, at night before I go to sleep.

I have had someone who says they have seen someone else in the same kind of exercise you mention though:D

I have been saying for a while now how i'd love to see my guides. I was told i had an indian guide. Problem is i think i'd have a heart attack if he appeared to me...although i have asked if he would appear inmy minds eye.

I have just mentioned to someone else how on 2 occassions now, just as was about to drop of to sleep, a face appeared inmy mind, and indian, and on both occassions i was shocked but not scared..but it did leave me wide awake.

I honestly don't really beleieve that it was my guide, more my imagination; i would love it to be though!

Aura, I have the same experience with the faces that appear to me. Sometimes about 50 faces will flash by quickly before someone will 'come forward' and stay there before moving on. Quite recently, an older man, about 60 appeared and the way he stared at me was really unnerving[&:]

As you say, I was shocked rather than scared, and the longer he stared, the softer his gaze became, and the more I could relax. Still a strange experience though!

Only twice now have i had something similar to that. It happened both times just as i was falling to sleep. I see what i can only describe as a sort of slide show. I see like, black and white photographs, one after the other. I remember one in particular was a little girl with short dark curly hair..she's the only one that sticks in my mind. All i know is that the photos all look old. I don't know if that's just because they are in black and white or what!

Like you, i'm scared to just relax and watch, because on both occassions someone looked nasty and made me jump. I have never mentioned this to anyone else before as i haven't a clue what's going on. I really beleive it's my sub-concious as it happens as i'm dropping off to sleep.

Do you know why this happens because i would love to know?

sorry i havent been on for some time.

i recently tried to see a face in my own reflection the other day and it looked like someone i couldnt see was stepping in and out of my focus it was interesting but i have to be careful how much i do it coz my eyes are pretty bad lol.

Whilst giving a Reiki treatment I was facing a mirror and could see a different face overshadowing mine for about 5 minutes. I have also experienced a feeling I can only describe as someone has stepped inside me and taken over the treatment. I presumed it was my guide(s). Strange feeling but very exciting! Also, some clients have told me they have felt another set of hands on them whilst I have been giving treatments.

This is such a fascinating thread, only just come across it, so much to ponder upon.
Poppet, how amazing to see different face superimposed on yours WOW. I feel my guides but would love to see them too, but then thats the ego talking. My clients have also commented on feeling other sets of hands during treatments, sometimes many sets. My understanding of this is that we are just the channel and we step aside and allow the reiki guides to perform the healing through us with no ego coming into the equasion.

I do have experience of seeing spirit but not my guides.The most memorable was around 35 years ago when sitting in a development circle. My husbands brother (who had just passed over) transfigured onto my husband and it was incredible, my husband "disappeared " and his brother appeared, sitting in a totally different posture. It had an incredible impact on me and from that point on I KNEW that there was so much more than the physical and began to search and learn.

An interesting thread you posted. I've had experiences with looking in the mirror and found them a bit scary to be quite honest, mainly because they were unexpected, and I had no idea what to do with it, if anything. I was trying to see my aura, but instead my face just blacked out and then turned into other faces, in a sort sepia coloured shade. They were quite rough looking, not at all ethereal, but I didn't feel comfortable with that and stopped. I do have guides and hear their presence and also have a picture in my mind's eye of what they look like, but doing it in the mirror was entirely different.

I've had exactly the same experience so many times. My guides seem to take over me to look around my client and then direct my hands. So I get a lot of involuntary head-turning, and I feel like I'm looking with my third eye - it feels quite reptillian some how, as I'm leading my head head movements with the centre of my forehead.
