I have just done my reiki 1 this weekend and whilst I had a lovely two days and a very moving experience during the attunement I am having some trouble finding a persons aura field for scanning. The others in my class did it first try and whilst I have felt myself channelling reiki I am confused why I seem unable to feel what I am supposed to, despite our master trying very hard to help me. He seemed quite suprised that I was unable to do this.
Is it usual to be able to do one thing but not the other, or maybe I am not channelling reiki either and just imagining it?
Any advice?
RE: scanning problems
I'm a bit confused what you mean by 'not being able to find their aura field.' The auric field surrounds the physical body and extends quite a way out, so it's hard to miss;) Unless you meant your teacher expected you to see the colour of someone's aura, or detect imbalance???
RE: scanning problems
Please dont worry! The first time I scanned... nothing not a thing. I was trying too hard, it will happen when its meant to happen. Try to practise on family and friends I found the more people I did the more I began fo feel.

RE: scanning problems
Hi Suebee, I must admit I was never taught scanning, nor was it ever mentioned and I've managed to do reiki treatments for years without needing it! 😉 in short, don't worry too much about it. Developing a sensitivity to the aura takes longer in some people than others and you can be perfectly aware of the reiki energy but not auric energy. Doesn't make you a bad healer!
I'd suggest trying to feel your own aura first. Hold your hands a little bit apart and focus on building up the energy between them. Play with it - bring your hands in close, then let them be 'pushed' apart... see if you can detect changes in temperature or type of energy.
Once you've played with that a while, get a volunteer and hold your hands above their head, about an inch or so away. Start letting your hands drift outwards, focusing on what they are picking up and again, see if you catch changes at all. Ask for feedback from your friend.
A common problem is concentrating too hard, so relax, loosen your arms if you start to tighten up and look for a light 'breeze' or coolness, warmth, tingling... you will soon get the hang of it.
Give that a try and I'm sure you will be scanning like a good 'un in no time at all.

RE: scanning problems
Hi suebee
Scanning is done by moving your hands slowly through someone's energy matrix to find any problems, you need to be very relaxed when performing it and what you sense is sometimes very faint so you need to be looking for small differences in what you are feeling or sensing.
Just hold your hands a few inches off someone's body relax and state your intention to scan and then slowly and in a relaxed manner start to move your hand sideways and up and down and go with the flow 🙂

Some good advice from everyone there.
Scanning the aura is not an integral part of a reiki I course. Your reiki master is including this as some extra things for you to be aware of, which is good, however it's not something you MUST do.
Practice with the energy you are chanelling, on friends and family, let yourself relax and just 'feel' as you give a treatment. Don't try and do it, just notice what's there. With time, and as you become more comfortable with the energy, you will find the sensations that are right for you. Trust in your intuition and let it guide you. Everyone feels things differently, whether the client or the practitioner.
Do not worry.

RE: scanning problems
Very good advice from everyone, Suebee.
It can take some people several months to get the 'feelings' of Reiki and the energy fields of others.
Just relax, calm yourself, listen to your hands while giving Reiki treatments and - DON'T WORRY!!
Just because you can't feel anything does not mean that you are not channelling Reiki. You are, and the sensations will follow. Keep on practising on yourself and anyone else you can lay your hands on.:D
