Hello everyone
All the threads on the RRWG and the proposed regulation documents seem to have fizzled out somewhat, and discussion discontinued, so I thought I'd start a new thread having today received Taggart's newsletter with a link to this article on his website.
I did briefly email him and he replied that he'd be perfectly happy for me to put a link here. Those who remember when Taggart posted more frequently on HP will I'm sure be glad to know the article is written in his usual inimitable style. Enjoy!

RE: Reiki Regulation ~ article by Taggart King
Hi Holistic, thanks for the link. I agree with many of Taggart's points and one in particular caught my eye where he mentioned that people in the reiki community do not like to be seen to disagree because it is percieved to be 'not nice'.
I implore all those that may feel that if they disagree with these proposals but do not voice their opinion to remember that if you do not voice your opinion and oppose these regulations, you will be doing a great disservice to existing practitioners and also those of the future.
Regulating reiki is totally against everything that reiki stands for. There is no harm that can be caused by the responsible use of reiki and those who are proposing the regulations should know better. They are attempting to sell out reiki in a bid for personal gain, in my opinion. All they see are dollar signs in their eyes.
Do not be fooled that this is for the protection of the public either. It isn't. The so-called reiki experts who proposed the regulations have, as Taggart said, repeatedly used this mantra to fool good natured, public spirited reiki practitioners into accepting something that is unnecessary, unwanted and pointless.
And that is aside from the people who proposed the regulations standing to gain hefty 'consultation' fees for their 'professional' services. That is speculation by the way but something which those good folks have neglected to tell us they could gain from.
Anyway, there is a petition for those who want to voice their opposition to these proposals found at [link= http://petitionthem.com/default.asp?sect=detail&pet=3202 ]http://petitionthem.com/default.asp?sect=detail&pet=3202[/link]. At the time of writing, there are 52 people signed and the petition will be presented to the RRWG before the consulting period ends.
There needs to be as many signatures as possible on this petition to show that there is serious opposition to the proposals and to get our voices heard. It is not un-reiki like to state what we feel and to oppose a corruption of this beautiful energy system, so get signing!
Good on Taggart too!
Darren
Edited to fix the petition link. 😉
RE: Reiki Regulation ~ article by Taggart King
I would urge all practitioners, whether for or against these proposals, to send individual responses and don't rely on petitions.
The RRWG has stated quite clearly what the response mechanisms are. Emails or written responses to the consultation papers. Petitions risk being ignored just like the chads in the Florida elections.
52 names = 2 pages of A4.
52 letters is a stack of paper 2 feet high
If you were on the receiving end, which would have more impact!
If the future of Reiki in the UK isn't worth a 32p stamp and a couple of minutes of your time, then you've really got to ask yourself what does Reiki mean to you?
I've got my ticket booked for a RRWG roadshows and I'm armed with a list of questions. I'll let everyone know how it goes 😀

RE: Reiki Regulation ~ article by Taggart King
Hi all, derekw is right, the petition is no substitute for individual responses. Each person must send an written response of their own outlining their own specific reasons for rejecting/supporting the proposals.
It is the intention of the petition to get people who oppose the proposals together and form a united front. Each person who signs the petition will receive an email that outlines why reiki shouldn't be regulated and why the proposals are bad news. They can then add to/amend the email and use this as a guideline to send to the RRWG.
As said though, it is no substitute for individual responses, which should be sent by everyone with an opinion on the matter.
Cheers
Darren

A good article, thanks for posting it.
What worries me is the 100 reiki sessions that you must have undertaken, 20 of which must be paid for. I have done many (I've not documented or counted them) sessionswith reiki 1 on my family/pets and am going do do my reiki2 next month. Do the sessions I did with family etc count towards this 100? and will I be able to set up my reiki practice if I haven't fulfilled this criteria?

RE: Reiki Regulation ~ article by Taggart King
I agree with Enchantedmoonbeam, I have practised on family and friends for the past 6 months, but I haven't actually been paid for any sessions.
I have the feeling that this regulation will only be benefitial for the people that are already practitioners.

RE: Reiki Regulation ~ article by Taggart King
Hi all,
The RRWG is made up of a number of groups, having representatives, which attend the meetings and have a direct influence of the decisions been made. The RRWG are doing the road show to try to spread their work and get feedback from as many Reiki people as possible.
However, if you want to be kept in the loop (so to speak), you can join one of the member groups, and get your opinions heard through the representatives, and be informed of what the RRWG are doing on a regular basis.
One group that was set-up specifically to enablenon associated Reiki people to voice their opinion was the Open Reiki Group. If you're interested you can find the groupat [link= http://www.open-reiki-group.org.uk/home.html ]http://www.open-reiki-group.org.uk/home.html[/link]
