Hi All
A little new to Reiki, which I only really came across properly as a friend had his attunement done recently.
Just a quick question is Reiki initiation the same as Shaktipat the same transmission of energy that awakens the Kundalini that spiritual meditation masters give?
Also can bad energy/karma be transmitted from a reiki master to receipent. I know the energy itself is pure and good, but it has to pass through a person so just curious?
Some great threads on here so I'll keep searching through them to get a better understanding of all of this.
Thanks from a complete novice.

Hi Holos and Flit. Thanks.
Hi All,
What jnani has described about Shaktipat is a very good answer, however, not all Guru's that transmit Shakitpat are clear channels. The term Satguru , "true Guru" is a very important distinction. Keep in mind that many guru's are transmitting Shaktipat similar to way that Reiki masters are passing down Reiki, so like both some discernment is necessary, it is really what you do with the energy that maters most.
Both activate centers. Shaktipat will vary between teachers. Some will activate the root chakra, some 3rd eye, some crown and some heart. Mostly it is the kundalini that they focus on, or rising up of the energy. It is this energy that can cause more problems for people that you read about. Shakipat can be more intense than Reiki. Reiki is an energy that flows from above the crown down to the heart, It is not as strongly connected to the lower centers and thus has been considered a safer method;
also, one reason why some people do not experience anything with Reiki. If someone is used to being blasted with Shaktipat , Reiki may be too subtle for them to notice.
Reiki also tends to be more homogeneous, meaning that the same experience is similar from one teacher to the next. I do feel Reiki is easier to teach and typically comes with a manual :). I have yet to see a guru hand out a manual
Shakipat is a much older system rooted in Hinduism, it was very popular in the 60's but once reiki was introduced it seems to have lost much interest except if one is connected to the Guru. The popularity of Reiki seemed to overshadow many other systems of energy healing. The main reason for this is, it is so easy to learn and is not tied into a particular religion or Guru.
Recently many Gurus have seen the success of Reiki in the West and have now introduced Shakipat also called Deeksha in a similar way that Reiki is taught.
This is one reason many are finally hearing about Shakipat.
Just like with Reiki do your homework and check out the teacher, talk with others who have had transmissions and follow your heart. Both Reiki and Shaktipat can change your life forever, find a strong foundation to work from.

Good post Patrick. So true about the pure channel.
Just because you mentioned, I do give a manual with Shaktipat.
And by the way although it is a Sanskrit term and all that. It is essentially a heart connection with guru and overflowing of the guru's essence. not confined to a religion. As it is an infection of divine from one to the other. In non-doing. Jesus did that, but ofcourse it is nor known as Shaktipat but grace, which is what shaktipat is.
overflowing of grace...
