I was attuned to Reiki 1 a couple of years back. Today I visited my Vet who recommended Reiki treatment for my dog. Remembering the conversations I had with people at the Reiki group, I think it would perhaps be beneficial for me to be attuned to Reiki II level so that I can treat him myself.
I have read on here about distant attunements/empowerment and wondered where I might find someone who might do this or point me in the right direction.
Also, what actually happen's during a distant attunement, is it at a pre-decided date and time. Are there any after effects, for the 21 days after my 1st attunement I felt dreadful!!
And what about the teaching's relating to Reiki II level, the use of symbols etc, I was told that these were never shown until you'd been attuned at this level, is this something that I can find in written form.
I confess that although I truly believe in the concept, I've never had much faith in my ability.....Strangely, today when I treated my dog I could feel the energy coursing through my hands.

You can either receive a distant attunement at a pre-arranged time, or the person sending the attunement can intend that it should be received by the recipient whenever they call it in... in the same way that distant healing can be sent in advance.
In my experience, if people are going to have a strong response to Reiki attunements than that seems to happen after Reiki1 - your first connection to the energy - and is a lot less common after Reiki2, though it can happen sometimes.
And what about the teaching's relating to Reiki II level, the use of symbols etc, I was told that these were never shown until you'd been attuned at this level, is this something that I can find in written form.
The symbols etc were kept secret for many years, but now the Reiki symbols can be found easily in many books and on the Internet.

Hi Jintie,
You can treat your dog being "only" attuned to level I. The symbols may help you focus on the Reiki energy, but Reiki will work with or without them. You can do distant Reiki without the symbols. As Taggart said, they are easy to find on the internet. In my opinion, one is attuned and "in tune" with the Reiki energy or is not. Meaing once you have been attuned to Reiki you have the ability to do both hands on and hands off treatments.

I agree with Artemis. You don't need Reiki 2 to be able to give healing to your dog or to give distant healing.
You DO have the ability to give healing to your dog. Please try and - as I always keep saying - DO NOT WORRY. That is the most important of the Reiki Precepts.
Whichever path you choose will be the best path for you and it will be chosen at the most auspicious time for you.

Like artemis and Paul I was wondering why you feel you need to go for Level2 reiki before you can give healing to your dog?
Animals are very sensitive to healing energies so you may find your dog will only accept healing for a few moments to begin with.
As Paul says "do not worry", let your dog have a wander round and then offer some more healing, you can do this over a longer period, letting your pet 'dictate' the amount of time and healing he wants. Most animals once they become familiar with healing energies become reiki junkies, and keep coming back for more!!!!:D

I do know that I can give my dog treatment at Reiki 1 and am doing. I was just led to understand (by those that have been attuned) that Reiki seems more powerful after Reiki II attunement.
Is this true? Perhaps you could help educate me on this one. Why do we need to progress to Reiki II or Master's level. What are the advantages/benefits/changes? (In 5000 words or less 
)

It's a bit of a paradox. A level 1 Reiki practitioner could give much stronger treatments than a Level 2 practitioner if they had been actively practising giving more Reiki than the Level 2 practitioner. However, all of my students have said that they have felt that the healing energy increased significantly following their Level 2 Attunements.
Could this be because of the Attunements OR because they made their INTENT that the energy increased? Possibly the latter because the very first Reiki Attunement re-opens, or re-awakens, the recipient to the Universal Energy and the 'teaching' and Attunements just give them the confidence to use the Energy connection they had all along.
I hope this helps. If it doesn't, ask another question and I'll have another go at putting it into words. Hopefully, others on this forum will chip-in with their ideas and get me off the hook.;)

I agree with Paul. My personal experience - and the experience of many of my students - is that the Reiki2 attunements (or Reiki2 empowerments) seem to have the effect of 'cranking up the volume' and this is quite often noticeable to people that the student has been treating.
You could see it as meaning that the individual can only 'hold' and channel so much energy in one go, and you need to become used to a level before you can be moved on to hold more. It could be because you are receiving another connection ritual - and in Usui's original ystem you would be empowered again and again and again.

For what it's worth:
I found after Reiki 2 my 'intuition' became stronger rather than the energy becoming stronger. I feel that going on to Reiki 2 and masters is more of a spiritual journey for me, so I will go on to Masters when I feel ready spiritually.

My expereicne with the different levels is similar to Poppet's. As I made Reiki more "mine", opned up more to my intuition, worried less - as Paul would say "Just for this treatment, I will not worry"- my trteaments did become more "fluent", and I became more aware of the energy flow. But I don't feel that the energy itself became more powerful. As for how much energy one can hold at a given time/stage I would say it depends on how much you practice with it, rather than on which level you are attuned.

What I meant was that there are benefits in receiving regular 'reconnections' to Reiki: it clears your channels, develops your sensitivity to the energy, allows you to develop spiritually. That was the original approach: endless connections (not that they wear out, mind).
Does that make sense?
