Hi
I have a friend who is thinking about having a Reiki Treatment. I recently found out he was bi-polar. Has anyone had experience of giving Reiki to someone with this condition?
He says his medication wears off after a few months and he has to try something new all when his body gets used to it.
Any advice about giving the treatment or what to expect would be really useful
Sam

Hello

Ive found that, since being attuned to Reiki, my moods have levelled out. I was never diagnosed with bipolar, just depression (apparently my high moods weren't high enough!), but things seem to have levelled out.

I don't know if that helps or not!

I've given spiritual healing to someone suffering from schizophrenia before. He came back for more treatments and found it helpful.

yes, I have treated someone living with this condition.

what to expect?

well, this person is your friend so you know what he is like as a personality, so, is he the kind of person who needs information /re-assurance etc or does he like to just get on with things?

I would suggest leaving extra time at the end of the session for him to feel grounded, and to have clear boundaries around start and finish times.

As he is a friend, it would be great if it rounded off with a cup of tea, to come back into everyday life.

What are your worries?

I have had 2 clients who have found Reiki very supportive both suffering from Depression, one in fact was having serve panic attacks. Both found that Reiki helped them to clear their busy thoughts and found the energy very supportive. I saw them at first at weekly intervals and then gradually extended the time between appointments.

At no time did I offer counselling as I am not a counseller in fact one was having cognitive therapy. Both, are now very well, if they feel the need they will ring for a treatment or ask for Distant healing. In fact one of them has now taken her Part One with me and she has found this to be very helpful.

I feel Reiki gave them the support that they needed to heal themselves.

Take Care
Helen

Before you start, I would question what expectations your friend has from the session. Does he expect it to be a wonder cure to keep him from going to the doctors so much? Set his expectations to a gradual change rather than a dramatic one because people with bi-polar that I have known are used to highs and lows, nothing in between.
