Hi everyone,

I'm reiki level 1 and only ever really do reiki on myself. When I was first attuned I did some reiki on family members with mixed feedback, some felt nothing, some saw lights etc but my husband felt all kinds of pains when I gave reiki to certain areas. I felt this was not necessarily a bad sign and that it was kind of highlighting where he did need reiki to be given and that the energy was working.

Now a friend of mine has really terrible neck ache. Severe, it makes her feel incredibly sick, dizzy etc. I want to give her some reiki but I am well aware that I am really not an expert. I have full faith that I can help her and believe the energy can heal her.

What I just wanted clarifying for myself is that it is correct that reiki can never do any damage? or make a problem worse? Because she has such a severe pain she, more than I am, is feeling a little nervous about it. She wants it, but at the same time is scared it will make it worse.

Advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks 🙂

Hi,

I am really not an expert. I have full faith that I can help her

slight contradiction there. 😉

Firstly give yourself some healing as you are Reiki attuned and you are perfectly capable of treating yourself and others.

Reiki won't do any harm, though that doesn't mean that a person won't find their symptoms worsening before they get better. Sometimes, part of the healing process is for the body to fight the issue and Reiki assists with that healing process, so the symptoms could certainly worsen before feeling better. However, that's not always the case, and it depends on the issue.

You're friends neck ache may be rooted elsewhere (the odd thing with neck aches is that the problem is often on the opposite shoulder) which is a sort of transferred pain. So by all means treat your friend and make sure you work on both sides of the body. Also see if your friend has any emotional issues that need working on with Reiki (put the intent on healing the emotions in the heart and mind) as often aches can be related to emotional stresses.

Let us know how you get on.

In my opinion Reiki is pure and can not cause worsening of symptoms.

I do agree with the point Eneryiz makes though that 'Sometimes, part of the healing process is for the body to fight the issue and Reiki assists with that healing process' ...but not by worsening it!

Thanks Energylz and jeannie!

Haha yes that did sound rather contradictory didn't it, but really I do believe in myself and my reiki healing 🙂 I was just worried because the pain was so severe for her that I really didn't want to put her in more pain! But I think we just need to go for it 🙂 I'll let you know how we get on...

Also my husband let me give him another session yesterday! When i touched his feet he has pain in his stomach? Anyone know what that might mean?

And one last question that someone might be able to answer. Once you are attuned to reiki do you always have the gift of healing? Or can it disappear again?

Jeannie, it's not Reiki worsening the issue, but for some conditions, the healing process involves symptoms that feel worse to a person.

e.g. if you feel you have the start of the flu coming on and you use Reiki on it, it's possible that, rather than spending a week getting worse before feeling better, the Reiki may accelerate the process so that you feel worse for a much shorter period and the flu is gone more quickly, but the body still needs to go through it's process of healing you of the flu, which does involve feeling worse before feeling better, in that case.

So, it's perfectly possible that Reiki can be seen to be making it worse before it gets better, but it's not really the Reiki doing it, you have to look at the individual condition and how it would normally be healed and the normal symptoms experienced by the body.

Thanks Energylz and jeannie!...

Reiki goes to wherever it is most needed. If the energy disruption was greatest in his stomach, then that is where the Reiki went. When the healee feels discomfort in a certain area, keep your hands still (do not go to a different position) until the discomfort goes away. This means staying there for possibly way over the 3-5 minutes, maybe even the whole session.

And one last question that someone might be able to answer. Once you are attuned to reiki do you always have the gift of healing? Or can it disappear again?

Once you are attuned, you are always attuned. However, you need to carry on self-healing in order to get the most of your attunement. If you stop for a long period of time, you do not need a re-attunement, but re-starting the self-healing will get you back in touch with Reiki.

Hi Lucylish

And one last question that someone might be able to answer. Once you are attuned to reiki do you always have the gift of healing? Or can it disappear again?

You are talking about two separate things.

The gift that you received from your attunement was to be able to make use of your natural but dormant healing ability through the Reiki modality, it allows you to perform healing in the way that the Reiki modality was put together to perform that task, you can choose to use the Reiki modality or you can choose not to make use of it but still retain the connection, you can choose to keep your connection to the Reiki modality that you received with the attunement or you can get rid of it, the choices are all yours.

As for healing, that comes from within you, it is a natural function of our higher consciousness, had you used personal development to embrace the fullness of self before you received your attunement to the Reiki modality, then you would have probably already have been healing, so no, you can't loose the ability to heal as that was not what you received as a gift, it was already there but it did not have a way of being utilised, the attunement gave it a focus to work through.

What you need to understand is that if you get rid of your Reiki attunement, then you will no longer be able to work as a 'Reiki healing technician', you will have to learn how to embrace the fullness of self in order to make use of your natural dormant healing abilities, this means that you will have to learn how to 'become a healer'.

I hope that answers your question. 🙂

Hi Lucylish,
Having a reiki attunement is like hearing and learning a song, once you have it it cannot be unlearned. The ability that is awakened is only awakened, it was always there and will remain. The use of a reiki attunement is only one (quick) way to do this, there are many, and in each case the energy is the same - it is always the same energy for it is universal. Once you reach this stage the 'modality' does not matter, it is just a way of proceduralising, you are awakened to the energy, this can never be removed or undone.
People say that the energy goes where it is most needed because the client directs it, they have the knowledge of where they need it most, however it will become apparent the more that you do that you will become able to sense this, trust what you feel and use their end-of session feedback to confirm this. If possible attend some reiki shares, they help because the feedback is open and honest.
Many pains and problems are actually symptoms, Giles is right on this, a pain in the neck may be due to stress about a totally unrelated issue. Just allow the energy to flow as best you can and it will work.
Self healing is part of the key to it all, you can really trust yourself, you can be honest with yourself and this allows you to better understand the healing process.
love
