Okay so hopefully this is a simple question which will not kick off an all-out debate 😀 (not that I am not in favour of debates mind!:) )

What is the correct pronunciation of Reiki

some say ray-key whilst others say rye-key

so which is it?

Thank you 🙂

When I learnt Reiki, my teacher taught it as "Ray Key" which is generally the accepted way in the west from most of the literature you read.

However, on my course was a lovely Japanese lady (and here she is: Jikiden Reiki Rika Tanaka) who had married an English chap (also on the Reiki course), and she explained that the pronunciation is not easy for Westerners, because when pronounced correctly it's sort of half way between saying "Ray Key" and "Lay Key"... sort of like saying "rlay key" (she could pronounce it, and the rest of us struggled). It's a bit like trying to get a French person to pronounce "Strawberry" as they have trouble with the "t" and "r" being pronounced together, so often say "Stwawberry" (I know a lot of French people ;)).

Hope that helps 😀

Thanks for your replies folks. 😀

I guess it's a bit like scone (as in gone) and scone (as in tone)! 😀
