Hi there,
I did my Reiki 1 in December and must admit I don't feel any different at all! During the attunements, I had a few visions and even caused my Reiki Master to have a flashback of a past life. I know I'm meant to do a month's cleansing after, but I only managed a couple of days as things were so hectic at work and left me quite drained.
I've got a book out on Reiki which I will look through again and start to practice once things settle. My life is really hectic at the moment and to be honest I haven't had a lot of time to develop and use my reiki and I am finding it extremely hard to focus when I try to do a basic healing.
I just can't get this problem sorted and find when I actually do Reiki on another person, it causes me to feel extremely hot and I feel tired afterwards. [&o]
Is there something wrong here and can anyone suggest what I could do?
Gemma
RE: Problems with my Reiki
Hi Gemma...
Do you do self healing regularly? It is important you do Reiki on yourself on a regular basis.
Are you grounded when you start doing Reiki on other people?
I don't know about the other Reiki healers here, but I always feel rejuvinated after giving Reiki...
I hope you can get this sorted soon...
RE: Problems with my Reiki
You should try doing the self-treatment that you have been taught when you're lying in bed if you have no time elsewhere. The more you use it the more it flows.
One other thing, if you feel tired after treating someone it may be because you are trying to force the energy... all this means is that you are giving your own energy instead, which will make you tired!
RE: Problems with my Reiki
Hi Gemma
When the time is right for you to progress, then you will find things fall into place and you do not have to struggle with energy work it just happens like breathing.
So my advice is to simply stop trying at the moment and when it feels right start again and relax and enjoy the journey and go with the flow
RE: Problems with my Reiki
Hi Gemma,
Welcome to Reiki. I'm sorry your initial experiences aren't as positive as you had hoped. Be assured that things never stay bad.
What I would suggest you do is stop all treatments on others. I always teach that Reiki 1 is for self use only - this is why it is very hard to find insurance as a Reiki 1. Reiki brings up so much emotion and memories and blockages that require healing. You are also trying to get to grips with a modality that was totally alien to you before a few initiations were done.
I'm truly surprised more people don't struggle.
Use your time to clear yourself out and understand yourself better.
As for the concentrating - maybe you are trying too hard - a very common thing amongst new Reiki 1's. Relax and even have the TV on. It can help. Keep breathing and drop any expectations. Just let your Reiki develop in it's own way and it's own pace.
And never be afraid to ask for more help - especially from your Reiki Master, who should be there for all his/her students. Forge that strong relationship.
Love and light,
Christina
RE: Problems with my Reiki
Hi Gemma, I would echo others - you are trying too hard and using your own energy rather than Reiki. Don't feel guilty because you've not had time to practice. Just set your mind to self-treat every day. Even set yourself a new 21-day cleansing and get going again.
I was abysmal at self-treating when I started and now I'm teaching! Okay, it took years, but it was worth it!
When in doubt - Reiki, Reiki, Reiki!

RE: Problems with my Reiki
Hi Gemma,
The 21 days/month cleansing is not compulsory... Some people do have a lot to detox, others have less. For some it goes smoothly and no major detox effect, others will be detoxing for months.

With respect, I have to say that I disagree with you that Reiki 1 is for self healing only, although I have read and enjoyed many of your posts.
It is nowadays very widely thought that Reiki 1 is for self, family and friends. Yes, you are quite right that insurance companies now insist on Reiki 2 minimum before they will ensure for practice of Reiki on the general public, and this is sensible. However, if someone is taught not to practice on anyone other than themselves, how on earth are they going to get the kind of feedback that leads to learning and increased awareness of the benefits of Reiki? As you heal others, as I’m sure you know, you also receive a healing as you channel the Reiki.
Yes, sure, Reiki can bring up “stuff”, but I feel you paint a rather daunting picture here. It is not always, and does not have to be, a “struggle”. Anyone can take a look back at some earlier threads on this forum and see the number of times the new healer has said they felt nothing very much, yet the person they are healing has most definitely felt it. This builds confidence. Your comments, I feel, though I am sure are well meant, do not, IMHO.
I totally agree with what you said here:

Reply to Gemma,
Have you talked about this with your Reiki Master? What did he/she say about it?
Is ongoing support from your RM there for the asking? I note you did Reiki 1 very recently, so it should be.
The other thing I would like to add is that if you do not have the time to do a full self-treatment, it doesn’t matter. Take the pressure off yourself. Give yourself five minutes to start with. Increase to 10 minutes when you feel like it. And so on. There was a very recent thread here – called Self Healing ??? I think – where lots of us shared that we self-treat before dropping off to sleep at night.
Also be assured that although there might be truth in the old saying: “If you don’t want to lose it, use it”, you won’t lose your Reiki if you have been attuned. Do what feels right for you, and if that means taking a break and coming back later, fine – Reiki will still be there for you.
Best wishes,
Holistic
RE: Problems with my Reiki
Hi there,
Thanks for the response, I'll try and work on some more self healing over the coming weeks and refresh myself on the subject with my notes etc. I did my course at an adult education centre and I'm not sure when the Reiki Master will be back, I might see if she left contact details in our handbook and if she has, I'll get in touch and talk to her about it.
Thanks again and hopefully things will be better once I get into the routine again.
Gemma xx
RE: Problems with my Reiki
Hello Gemma
As you say you did your course at an adult education centre, I am just wondering if it's possible for you to renew contact with others on the course, to compare notes, offer support to each other, and maybe even get a Reiki share group together, so that you can safely practice on each other.
When I did Reiki 1, although our Reiki Master was a visitor from another part of the country who came to teach a group which a friend of mine got together, she did urge us to stay together and practice regularly. We met at each other's homes once a week for discussion and group hands-on, followed by an informal bring-a-dish supper, and it was a great success and very valuable practice, especially as there was no manual - the RM was of the old school ... word of mouth only and nothing must be written down. How times have changed!
I hope your RM gave contact details for follow up support and guidance. Please keep us posted, won't you
Laura.
RE: Problems with my Reiki
Hi Gemstone, you've had a lot of helpful advice here, so I won't repeat what everyone else has said. However, I just thought I'd let you know that I did my reiki 1 with adult ed, and found the whole experience disappointing as the teacher was uninspiring, and her ego seemed to get in the way of her teaching and our learning. Although I didn't doubt my ability to channel while I was on the course (well, not much) I didn't have the motivation to continue on myself or others after the 21 day self healing cycle. It wasn't until I re-did my reiki 1 with another reiki tacher that I really felt empowered to 'live' reiki. It isn't necessary to be re-attuned, even if you feel it 'didn't work' the first time round, because you have been opened up, and the ability will never disappear. However, from a confidence and personal development POV, I felt I would enjoy doing it again- and I did.
If you have support from your teacher and you felt happy with what you learnt in class, then that's fine, and it's really just a case of relaxing and waiting until the time feels right to start the self-healing process.
I really hope you find the answers you're looking for and feel empowered to reiki....well, everything!
RE: Problems with my Reiki
Hi Gemma,
Here's my usual - Please don't worry.
Try to do as much Reiki as you can on yourself at any opportunity. If you can't do it in bed at night or in the morning, then why not in short bursts (if you'll pardon the expression ;)) in the toilet every time you visit it . You do not have to do a 'full' treatment. Any Reiki is good Reiki wherever and whenever it is done.
I wish you well with your Reiki and hope that it will bring a calmer life style to you.
RE: Problems with my Reiki
Glad you enjoyed your holiday, Paul.:)
Reiki in the privacy of the bathroom sounds like a good addition here LOL:
