Hi Folks,

Since this forum seems to have many people who practise Reiki regularly, i thought i'll post my question here. I personally have not learned Reiki. This question is regarding my sister who started having issues related to going out and mingling with outside folks, generally being in public made her uneasy and she started having some hallucinations.
Over the past 24 months she has learnt Reiki and has been doing self-healing. Currently her condition atleast externally seems to have gone worse, with her talking about being able to communicate with others remotely, seeing auras etc.
Her Reiki teacher says that this could be all the bad energy being released and have asked her to continue with the healing.
My question is has anyone really been in such a situation and have seen that Reiki helps? Please let me know.

thank you.

RE: My sister practising Reiki

Hmmm...if people are a little unstable before taking a Reiki attunement then it may get worse before it gets better. Personally, I don't think a Reiki attunement helps in these casesat all.

Personally, I would not attune someone who is not "grounded" properly in a "common reality" and would suggest that your sister gets some form of professional help such as counselling etc. Certainly a visit to a qualified Doctor is in order.

I stress this is my opinion. However I do have a client who thinks he can "thought transmit" etc who comes to me for Reiki. I would not however teach or attune him. He uses the ecstasy drug on his gay nights out etc and this has led to a certain sense of "paranoia".

I would imagine that your sister will probably be reluctant to seek medical help. Seeing aurus is ok but most Reiki people don't talk about it. Being able to communicate with others remotely and having hallucinations is not ok.

I hope all goes well for the future.
Bless

I haven't personally know of anyone in this sort of situation, but I just wanted to say that (I beleive) that Reiki won't have any negative effect on her. It is a positive energy & works for the highest good of each individual. Your sister having hallucinations is worrying though & her talking to a Doctor about it would be a good idea. Seeing auras & even remote communication are possible phenomenons (& being attuned to Reiki does sometimes make people more spiritually aware) but these things generally take years of practice to achieve, (especially the latter) so it does sound like you have fair reason for concern.
If she spoke to a Doctor about it all, that would probably be the best thing.

All the best

RE: My sister practising Reiki

Thank you for your responses.

I just wanted to add a few more points and see whether this would help me in getting more people to talk about any similar experiences which he/she might have had.

Just before these talks about remote-communication and seeing auras began, my sister had begun taking some medicines for hormone imbalance as well. This she has stopped taking now. I was wondering whether it could be because of that.

Also, it seems to me that many Reiki-practising folks have some outside-the-world kind of experiences. I'm getting this idea after reading through many postings in this forum. Its just that my sister is not able to control her thoughts once such situation happens.

My sister lives in India and is with my parents. I'm in California. I was wondering whether it would make sense to bring her to USA. Is there any where in California where i can go to, to get more information about Reiki and to really figure out whether it would be worth-while bringing my sister here.

Thanks a lot.

Hi san_k

Welcome to the forums.

I am sure if your sister felt threatened at all by her experiences she would leave it all well alone, she has to exert her will to get into control, the word is actually intention, she must state her intention to keep in control and call in her guides whenever she wishes to practice.

Unfortunately because Reiki isoften taught by many as a sort of mechanical, abc way of healing, the spiritual development side is often overlooked and is sometimes completely ignored.

I would personally be highly delighted if my ESP developed to the extent I could communicate with others over the other side of the world, ESP is a normal reaction to spiritual development as is seeing auras together with any other psychic abilities which may or may not develop as a person develops spiritually.

Well said Paul!

Let's calm down - being able to see auras and communicate remotely are gifts we used to have before and used all the time, there is nothing to be afraid of.

Your sister is probably lacking in understanding and is becoming a little fearful of her gifts, and I can understand that, when your gifts begin to come to the surface it can be a little overwhelming. Or as her sister, is it you that is fearful and passing that fear onto her?

I would recommend that she grounds herself regularly, visualing herself connected to Mother Earth, also does she have access to the internet, she could do some research.

There is nothing to be afraid of, she is just developing spiritually.

RE: My sister practising Reiki

I have to agree with Rosi, and I wonder if this is a problem that affects you more than your sister. I have 3 sisters and love then all dearly so I can understand that you have fear for her, emotionally, mentally and physically. If you did not have her best interest at heart you would not be on the forum now so I hope you can take what you need out of our replies.

Does your sister perceive her experiences as normal? She must be discussing them with you which means an open and honest relationship, keep it that way as this would be the best way to help her.

I would also suggest that instead of bringing your sister to you, how about going to her - she would be in her own environment and comfortable, you could meet her Reiki master and see what kind of person this is and what kind of guidance your sister is getting. I would even go so far as to say, why do you not get your Reiki 1 initiation as you will be able to share this experience with your sister and it might lay to rest some of your fears.

I lived far away from my family for a long time and sometimes if you only talk or write to each other weekly or monthly you loose whole chunks of information and might perceive something quite diferently to those who are living it each day. Maybe being with your sister will change your whole picture.

if your sister felt threatened at all by her experiences she would leave it all well alone

I think our basic instinct protects us so I have to agree with the above quote. All this talk of auras and energy and ESP is probably foreign to you, to some of us it is very natural and for others, it is something they strive to achieve. If your sister is comfortable with her experience/development, be a part of it so that you can help and guide her from a position of strength and understanding, be able to share something special with her.

I wish you and your sister well,
Jo

RE: My sister practising Reiki

It could be that me & my parents are over-reacting a bit. But the fact is even if my sister has found these special talents, she atleast does not seem to be in control of it. She is not able to concentrate on day-to-day activities. She feels very tired most of the time.

Also, it looks to me that she mixes up reality and these visions she gets. For example, sometimes she claims that this person whom she is in remote-communication would be her reiki master from now on. Also, she sees some angels around in our home now.

You all are right in the fact that only if i learn Reiki will i be able to understand these thoughts fully which she is having. But doesn't it look like Reiki is hindering her normal life here. Should she be focussing on getting control of her thoughts in someway and let it not mingle with her normal day-to-day activities.

Thank you for all your responses so far.

RE: My sister practising Reiki

Hi san_K, Your sister is going through a totally new experience and she is becoming aware spiritually. You can't help but let it mingle with your day to day activities, lets face it when you can see angels, hear messages, and communicate with Spirit and have never done so before, it is a lot to get used to, and does interfere with your normal life.

In time she will learn how to integrate the experiences she's having into her everyday life. She definitely needs to keep grounded and I hope she is being supported by her reiki master.

Try not to worry about her and give her lots of encouragement.

And...

Most people attuned to Reiki are usually more effective, organised and disciplined in their daily "ordinary" life as a result of getting Reiki. Those attunedusually have more energy and are usually more happy about themselves and life in general...in my experience.

The fact that this is not the case with your sister is why you have an understandable concern.

Reiki, Meditation, Spiritual exercises etc can attract people who are not properly grounded and these things can be used as an excuse and as an"escape" from reality for some people. It becomes the very thing that makes them "different"...or.."special". This, to me, is not healthy.

It seems to me you suspect this is the case with your sister.

Her lack of energy and not being organised and motivated is not a good sign. People who are genuinely developing psychicallyand spiritually are usually very down to earth wholesome people with a great sense of fun and zest for life. The fact that they may have telepathic abilities, see angels and auras etc is nothing "special" and they remain grounded andwhole and lead active lives.

There seems to me to be cause for concern in your sister's case if what you say is accurate in your posts.

How long has she been attuned to Reiki and at what level do you know?

Does she have a "proper" job or is she dependent on others?

How are her relationships in general?

These are important questions.

Bless

RE: My sister practising Reiki

Hello san_k,

The common belief is that Reiki is a good, or at least a benign, energy. In some cases that may be true, but in many others it is not. It depends upon what happens in that attunement.

In order to become attuned to Reiki you must allow someone else to “give” you a connection to the energy known as Reiki. Originally, this was quite a potent force for good and a powerful method for releasing the many emotional entanglements that we encounter through life.

Recently, however, it has become encumbered with many expectations and claims that have nothing to do with the original purpose. It has become a circus act with people “developing” any ability that they have ever heard about. Tell them about someone who has learned to fly with Reiki and they will swear that they can too.

Additionally, that person who gave the attunement has now established a link with your sister’s energy. If she wants them to retain that connection there is nothing you can do to break it, but if she understands that she needs her own energy and that no one else should have access to it, she can (by thinking that request) break the connection.

Each one of us should keep our own energy pure and undefiled so that we can remain healthy in body and mind. Your sister’s confusion indicates that her energy is polluted. She accepts any kind of energy offered to her, appropriate or not. If it were not so, her health would improve rather than deteriorate.

Remember that you have asked this question amongst a body of persons who believe in the goodness of this system. They would not be expected to tell you anything other than the fact that it is good. You must use your own judgment to determine what you think is the truth and then act upon what you know in your heart.
