I was only attuned to Reiki 1 yesterday, so I'm still very new at this!
I was practising on my husband today - giving him a 'Reiki sandwich' while he was seated - andwhen I got to his throat chakra, my handsbecame very warm. I held them there until it subsided, and was just moving on to his heart chakra when he stopped me and said that he feltreally uncomfortable, as though he were about to faint. He said he had feltsoothed andrelaxed until I reachedhis throat chakra, and thenhe felt uncomfortablywarm and lightheaded.
I wasn't sure how to proceed, so I stopped giving him Reiki, 'swept' the negative energy away, and grounded him by holding his ankles. (I'm a bit gutted that my first time giving him Reiki ended this way, tbh!).
Funnily enough, he's had this reaction several times before, while having acupuncture in the throat area. I had assumed that it was just the psychological thing of having a needle in his throat, but now it seems as if it might have beenrelated to the chakra point? He also has a lot of physical problems with his throat. Just for info, myright hand was cupped in front of his throat, not gripping it, and he says it had nothing to do with how I was holding him; it was an internal thing.
He says he'd like me to try it again when he's lying down sometime, so I will...but I'm confused; Reiki is supposed to be so gentle and non-invasive! Any ideas what might be going on? [sm=confused-smiley-012.gif]

Hi, yes Reiki is gentle and won't harm your hubby. I think your hubby has some psychological fear there around the throat area, it may be better for him ( and your confidence) if you beam the reiki to that area in the future, the reiki will flow to where it is needed so even if you don't go near his throat the reiki will. You did everything right so don't think you were in the wrong in what you did. I have pm'd you too. lyn

Well done Zuzu! Congratulations on taking your Level I and may you have many years enjoying working with this wonderful energy.
I wonder if your husband has something that he needs to communicate but worried/afraid to do so? He may not even be aware of this himself but I have found over years of practicing that when someone comes to me with problems in the throat area it is down to not expressing what they need to. They are not able to speak their 'truth' as you might say.
Physical symptoms in the throat area are sure signs that there could be a blockage in the chakra centre there. This area is the communication centre and if we are not able to express our needs/fears/wants etc for fear of upsetting others then it gradually becomes sore throats/larangitis etc. The reason why your husband has felt uncomfortable when he has had some form of energy work in this area is that whatever has been supressed is being brought to the surface and subconciously he is afraid of what might literally 'come out'. Reiki is gentle but it is quite powerful when working on any blockages found and the more that blockage is released the more uncomfortable it may feel for your husband until it has been fully released.
Of course I'm not in the slightest way suggesting that he is deliberatley keeping something from you! It may be something that happened many, many years ago that he has forgotten but the energy 'vibration' is still in his system.
I would suggest you continue with the Reiki as long as he is ok with that and see if he feels better after a few more sessions.

I found this thread really interesting as, for the past few years I have had a tightness in my throat. During a Reiki treatment once the practitioner picked up the same tightness in her own throat and could see black cords in my throat area. She was only just doing the Reiki 1 attunement so was not confident enough to do too much work here, but I found it really interesting that she had picked up on it. On another occasion I have been told that my throat chakra is vibrating too fast, and the practitioner attempted to harmonise its activity.
I know that the throat chakra is to do with expressing yourself and problems with it can be to do with a fear of doing so. This would make sense as I often have difficulty saying how i feel, in the fear that it will upset someone.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to remedy this? I am attuned to Reiki 2 level and do Reiki on myself (possible not often enough), but i wonder if there are any other ways of working with the energy? Someone suggested using the sounds for the different chakras - how would i do this for the throat?

Lyn and Reikiangel, I think you're both spot on: there must be some sort of blockage there that's causing him distress when healing energy comes into contact with it. I'll show him this thread and keep trying, and hopefully we'll be able to get it cleared in time.
Trust me to pick a difficult client my first time out, eh?

I read the post and my first thought was past life regression I wonder if there is anything he has brought over that is causing this on a spiritual level.(I am trained in this and by no means trying to push this) but it came up as a initial thought.
it might be worth checking with a gp as well just in case. It could be a number of things but hope that you find out soon what is affecting this.
I too can be very sensitive at the heart chakra so you're not alone!
