Hi all

After all the great responses I got with regard to my last question, i couldn't resist asking for your help with this one 🙂
I'd just like to know how you all start off your Reiki treatments. Do you use a meditation to relax your client first before starting the treatment or do you just go straight into the treatment?
I always feel when I personally have a treatment, that I need that bit of relaxation first to help me get the most out of my Reiki treatment, but.... my Reiki teacher said that it's not absolutely necessary and it's my choice at the end of the day whether to do some meditation with the client beforehand.
If you do lead your client through a short meditation, what sort of thing do you do?
Any help on this would be great 🙂

RE: Meditation before Reiki treatment?

Hi there

I start my Reiki tratment by drawing power symbols on the walls, the ceiling and on the floor with incence, with relaxing music on while I do this and the client is lying on the massage table so they are relaxing already. I put my hands on them and do a bit of grounding and ask for guidence love and light and so on. I find that a reiki treatment takes about one hour ( full treatment ) sometimes less wiht a chat before and after. I don't think the client or I need a meditation because the client is relaxing while I do the cleansing and we are both in the right state of mind for the healing. However if you would like some short guided medetations I could ask my sister who has loads of them to send me some and I will send them to you.

love and light to you

RE: Meditation before Reiki treatment?

Thanks for your help Thinkerbell. If you could pass some of those guided meditations on that would be great and very much appreciated. i wonder if meditation was the correct wording for me to use though? The Reiki treatments that I received just started with some breathing techniques and the Practitioner mentioning things about being aware of different parts of the body etc etc. I just found that as I'm a person who finds it very difficult to switch off and relax this helped me a lot. I thought that some of my clients might be the same so something similar might help.

Hi Rachpoppy,

Getting a bit of relaxation going before hand always is a help but as your master said, it is your choice. Just like Thinkerbell, I do some work with symbols and mingling of auras and scanning before actually placing the hands. You couldalso just ask your client to relax and breahte deeply. If you set the (breathing) example, both of you will benefit and relax.

I always try to cleanse, focus and meditate before any treatment. That way, just the above isenough to relax me.

In the end there are no hardand fast rules as every situation requiresits ownunique approach. Ritual can be fine but flexibility is key.

I tend to rather agree with your Reiki Master, rachpoppy, but thinkerbell's routine sounds like a nice one to follow, as does Charly's, and it's important for you to feel right as well as for your client.

You might like to have a look at this earlier thread which, although it's mainly about meditations before attunements rather than treatments, does have a couple of links to breathing exercises. (You'll just have to scroll back up to the top of it, since it links to the point of my search):

RE: Meditation before Reiki treatment?

Hi Rachpoppy

Firstly I put on some relaxing music and leave it on until after my client leaves. Then I cleanse my treatment room before my client arrives by smudging and drawing the power symbol in the four corners, the ceiling and the floor and do a short meditation to concentrate my mind.

When my client arrives we sit and discuss their treatment. If they're new I explain what to expect. Once they're settled on the couch I silently ask my guides and clients guides to draw close before I start the treatment.

Not everyone has a ritual and no-one can say what is right or wrong, as you know whatever happens in Reiki is the right thing for you. So,everyone should go with their instincts and do what feels right for them.:)

RE: Meditation before Reiki treatment?

Hi Rachpoppy,

It's interesting to see what everyone else does isn't it!

I haven't started giving treatments professionally yet, but here's what I'd do:

I would always start the treatmenthavingsome quiet time before the client arrives. During this time I just like to ground myself and concentrate on my breathing; breathing out tension and breathing in peaceful calm. When I felt like all the tension has left my body I then breathe in peace and breathe out love, this puts me in the right space for healing. When the client arrives I would just get them to sit down for a short while and talk about how they found the last treatment, and whether anything significant has happened in between sessions. Then I would ask them to hop on the couch and I would take them through a relaxation exercise. I feel this is necessary for most people as they often find it really hard to switch off and can often be a bit nervous when the treatment is just beginning. I'd hate it if they were just lying therefeeling tense andwondering whether they were meant to be feeling anything yet! At the end of their treatment, after they had left I would then cleanse the room (incense if there wasn't anyone coming for a treatment shortly after or with a cleansing essence spray if they were.)

Hope that helps, Rachpoppy?

RE: Meditation before Reiki treatment?

I prepare the room in advance by drawing the symbols, and burn essential oils releveant to client
if the client is new i do a consultation and explain what i will do where i will place my hands etc and when they are the couch and I have washed my hands and used a little aroma blend on them i ask the client to take a lond breath in and out 3 times with me and then I do the treatment, clients usually naturally close their eye but some don't i prefer it when they do it seems more relaxing. At the end of a session I cleanse the room using the power symbol.

I read something recently (can't remember where) that siad all you need to do is to say/think "Reiki go" and the energy will flow which is more or less what i do when i am driving or doing other things and it works so i suppose you could just start a treatment but clients like to feel they are having special time so I guess whatever little rituals we choose to use work on that level but we should just trust the reiki to flow whenever.

have to admit my mind does wander during treatments but it doesn't stop the reiki
