I took my Reiki I attunement about 10 days ago. I managed to read up a bit before I went so knew what to expect (Reiki for Life).

Although I can feel energy going out of me when I do a healing I feel nothing in receiving. I felt absolutely nothing during the attunement.[&:]

My RM actually drew my energy in the shape of a four petals like a flower coming in gentle waves. I feel it going out like a jelly fish pulsating.

Also, if my mind wonders will the Reiki still flow or do I need to stay completely focussed.

Hi Pathfinder,

Some people feel things and others don't during attunements. Whatever you did or didn't feel was what was right for you, and you can be sure the attunement has worked (assuming your Reiki master is qualified to give attunements, which I'm sure they will be).

What to do if your mind wanders.... remember the Reiki principles.... Just for today, be free of worry. Just bring your attention back to what you are doing and carry on. If your mind wandered then it was because it needed to at that point, and your recognition that it has done that is also important. There is no need to concern ourselves or worry about the "stay completely focussed". If you have placed your hands and are intending for the Reiki to be given to the client then it will flow. Obviously this doesn't mean that you should spend all your treatment time thinking about what you are going to make for tea etc., but you just shouldn't worry if you mind does wander occasionally.

I also recently had my Reiki 1 so I feel similar to you, with questions sometimes 🙂

I keep hearing the phrase 'go with the flow' soI'm trying to be like that. Best wishes!

Hi Pathfinder,

Don't worry! I think the kind of thing you're outlining here is completely natural. Also, some people (like me) get into a deep meditative state about 5 mins in, whereas others are more naturally inclined to have busy minds and the "chattering monkeys" effect.

On a practical note I'd suggest 2 things. Number one, is making meditation a daily practice. This could be as simple as observing your breath or you could buy a meditation CD to help you if you feel you'd like someone to guide you along the process. (I quite like Deepak Chopra's [url]Soul of Healing[/url] CD.) If you get into the practice of meditating daily then not only will youbecome calmer in general butit will become easier to relax and turn off when you're channelling healing too. The second suggestion is to try visualisation, or more specifically a technique coined Flowdreaming isa cross between meditation and daydreaming- you go into a relaxed state but you're giving your mind stimulus and something to focus on, so it's brilliant for people who find it difficult to quiet their minds. It's often used to manifest things in your life, but it's great to experiment. On the site you can find an explanation of what it actually is, and if you visit theHayHouse Radio link go to the introduction to flowdreaming show where you can try the technique for yourself. I think this might be particularly helpful for you in a healing context because you can be doing something in between complete focus and letting your mind wander....Summer calls it 'guided daydreaming'.

For me, I only started to completely trust that I was really channelling healing when I strengthened my connection to Source. Essentially, we're always connected to Source and it's only when we lower our own vibration through feeling stressed and having some form of un-loving thoughts that we aren't as in tune as we could be. When we raise our own vibration and become in tune with the highest energies in the universe- Love,Truth, inspiration etc,then we're connected to the perfection from which we originated-'Source', and we can therefore channel that energy for our own healing. From the quote above, I'm guessing that you're speaking of self-healing? I find that I never get the sensations doing self healing that I do during healing others which is quite common.I never do self-healing as such, but I do meditate which connects me to Source and it'shealing energy and therefore is the same thing.

The best piece of advice I could give would be to relax and let go of the need to feel something. If you open up and let go of that attachment you might find that you experience the healing energies in a different way.

So does it actually matter if my mind is thinking about something else? I read that one woman actually counts the seconds away for her 3 - 5 min. If you are doing this are you still chanelling and if so does it reduce the strength.

My RM taught me visualisation which I found difficult until I put myself in a familiar place (i.e. my kitchen) and took a lemon out of the fridge, sliced it. However, when told to taste it I couldn't taste it.

I am an absolute beginner at relaxing and my mind goes off at tangents all the time. It might help if I had a clue what meditation was all about and what state of mind you are supposed to be in. That will have to be my next research I think. I like the idea of Flowdreaming, sounds more up my street.

It depends to what degree. If you're feeling very peaceful and relaxed whilst channeling but your mind occasionally drifts to other things then that's OK, very natural when you first start and won't impede the process. If you're doing the healing and your mind is constantly flicking from mundane thoughts like whether you'll have time to walk the dog later or if you'll be able to go out on Friday night then you could probably do with clearing your mind a bit. You mention someonethat counts the minutes for each hand position- I've personally never had the need to do this because I have a clock in the room so I can keep track of the time this way and I find that I can channel best when my mind is completely quiet and calm.I neverholdthe hand positions for a set amount of time anyway- I just allow myself to be guided by my intuition and would find that very hard if I was constantly going 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13......

If visualisation doesn't work for you at the moment then I wouldn't force it. Even though I'm a highly visual person I do go through stages where I can't do guided visualisations because i just go off and 'do my own thing'. That's OK and your unconscious mind's way of saying that visual images aren't important at this time. It might be that you're not a primarly visual person anyway....perhaps you're more kinesthetic? Whatever, it doesn't matter. If you worry that you 'should'be seeing/feeling something then it's more than likely that you'll create a block for yourself so just open up, relax and just let it flow.
