Hi, [sm=wave.gif]

As I am going to do Reiki 2 in July, my Reiki master has given me a list of things to avoid in the week before the attunement. This is slightly different from the list I was given for Reiki 1 although that wasn't from the same Reiki master. I was just wondering which things are the most important to avoid and why, and whether anyone else had been given (or gives) a different list of dos and don'ts.

The things that were the same for both attunements are;
avoid coffee, tea and other forms of caffine.
no alcohol for 3 days before
no smoking
be kind to yourself and try to avoid negative emotions

the new ones are;
no chocolate
no sweets
try not to eat meat or fish because of toxins such as drugs they may contain
meditate for about 30 mins a day

Strangely I have found that my body seems to be taking these on board before my mind. I have gone off alcohol already ( this happened last time too) and I usually drink only herbal teas anyway. Has anyone else found this?

Anyway, I was looking through the list and began to wonder if everyone doing Reiki 2 was told the same things and if not what the differences were?

Hi floffle

Sorry I am not going to be much help to you here as I just feel its a case of 'here we go again' and I may well be wrong but...

You ask which is the most important to avoid and why...my question is WHY to any of it...

I am sure someone with much more experience than I shall come along and inform us both soon[&:]

Hi Floffle,

I personally think this is great and only wish I had the guts to ask for it myself and risk losing trainees in the process. I would add avoiding any sweeteners. We have lots of foods that may adversely affect us, and I think it is very good to have your attunement when you are at your optimum health. After all, an attunement can be described as at least partly electromagnetic in nature, and anything that may get in the way of this flowing freely is best avoided.

Enjoy your attunement.

RE: How do you prepare for Reiki attunement?

Hi Floffle,

I am inclined to agree with Stormdeva here, and only recommend to my students that they avoid cafine, nicotine and alcohol for the 48 hours before and after any attunements/Reiju.

It would seem that perhaps your Reiki Master is assuming that you will detoxify as a result of the increase in your vibrational rate following your level 2 attunements as these can be quite strong, especially if you have not been in receipt of weekly ones in between the 2 levels.

Therefore, by preparing your body and mind in advance and avoiding things which are not food for the body, the effects of any detox should be lessened. This could simply mean, the less toxins you have in your system prior to the attunements, the less toxins there will be to come out!

As your Reiki Master states they should be avoided it is possible that he/she knows of people who have had experiences based on their own levels of toxins.

Reiki blessings and Hello Stormdeva, thank you for your advice re the Crystal Course!

RE: How do you prepare for Reiki attunement?

To the best of my knowledge (limited as it is) most people who undergo attunements will experience some sort of detox of their body. Each person will experience different things, but generally it is advised to start some sort of "detox program" before having attunements, so that the effects afterwards will not come as such a shock to your system. It's not absolutely necessary, but you'll notice more afterwards if you're full of toxins and then your body suddenly starts detoxing itself.

Lots of things provide different toxins at different levels. My advice would be to look into everyday detox diets and see what sort of things they recommend. If you're eating a healthy balanced diet and living in a healthy manner then you'll less likely feel the after effects of the attunement.

I just had a quick browse and there seems to be loads of web sites for detox's. Check out .

Hope this helps.

RE: How do you prepare for Reiki attunement?

Hi Everyone,

I agree with Stormdeva! WHY to any of it!!!

I don't recommend anyone giving anything up before any Attunement.

All I require from my students is a relaxed attitude and an open mind when they attend lessons.

There is too much mysticism attached to the business of 'teaching' Reiki. There are too many needless restrictions placed on the receiving and giving of this basic, gentle art.

We are ALL connected to the Energy at ALL times - whether we have Reiki or not.

The 'Teaching' of Reiki is the teaching of the ways to apply what we already have. It is the re-awakening of the awareness of our connectedness to the Energy and the stilling of our minds so that we feel that connectedness. It is also giving people the confidence to place their hands close to or on themselves and other people without threat and just sensing the experiences that this brings.

The Reiki Levels are complete in themselves and give the 'trainee' the tools to deal with anything that their heightened awareness may re-awaken in their minds and/or bodies during the 'bedding-in' period at each Level.

Reiki is wonderfully simple!!!!! There should be no fears or restrictions on Reiki.!!!

The generation of special diets and/or abstinence before 'training' and dos and don'ts after 'training' just seem, to me, to be Master/Teachers adding mystique to justify their ego and position - and perhaps their fee.

That is my opinion!!

RE: How do you prepare for Reiki attunement?

I tend to agree with Stormdeva and Paul on this. When I took Reiki1/2 7 years ago there was none of this de-tox stuff. You came with an open mind and the willingness to learn how to use Reiki energy. I will be teaching soon myself and I will not be asking my students to follow any 'programme'. I feel that IF any detox effect happens after the attunements it is good for the student to see how much the Reiki has cleared from their system and to have first hand experience of this. I know from my own personal experiences that it helped my clients to understand what was happening to them when I could relate back to them what happened to me.

Just enjoy the experience and look forward to all the positive things in your life that will happen once Reiki is in it!!

Good luck, let us know how you get on and I look forward to welcoming you into our HP Reiki family

Love and light

RE: How do you prepare for Reiki attunement?

I did detox before both of my attunements and I felt better for it - generally - and I do it regurlarly now as part of looking after myself.

Maybe one of the reasons is that if you follow a healthier regime than normal before then you are better able to cope with the detoxing that might happen as a result? The healthier body is stronger and the reiki detox less debilititating ....................

just a thought 🙂

RE: How do you prepare for Reiki attunement?

Hi Stormdeva, New Age London, Soul Shepherd, Energylz, Paul, Reiki Angel and Janey,

Thank you all so much for your replies.
I had thought that the restrictions were to lessen the effects of any dettox that might follow attunement. I will ask my Reiki Master next time I see her - unless she reads HP?!!
I was interested to see that a lot of the replies said that no restrictions were needed as both my Reiki masters had given me a list and I assumed that it was something everyone did.
I tend to agree with Reiki Angel with the following quote;

'I feel that IF any detox effect happens after the attunements it is good for the student to see how much the Reiki has cleared from their system and to have first hand experience of this.'

as I did not experience much physically after my first attunement and perhaps if I had it would have been proof of the Reiki working its magic. Mind you, emotionally the weeks following the attunement were a bit of a roller coaster with stuff that went on at work. I do wonder if it would have been different without the Reiki as it was a stressful period anyway?

RE: How do you prepare for Reiki attunement?

Hi,

I have to agree with Paul. What you might eat or drink on the run-up to being attuned will have no effect at all on the quality of the connection you receive. All I would say is that if you eat steak three times a day, washed down with coffee and port and several cigarettes then you'll probably have a bit of bigger clear-out after being attuned when compared with teetotal vegans, but it will not affect the quality of your connection at all.

So if you want to follow these restrictions, then follow them, but they are not uniform within the world of Reiki.

Detox diets are no doubt a good idea, but they do not need to complicate Reiki practice.

Best wishes,

RE: How do you prepare for Reiki attunement?

Hi,

I don't think that anyone here is disputing the effects of the Reiki attunements whether preparation is undertaken in avoiding certain foods & drinks or not.

Some people may have a clear out of toxins following attunements and some wont, I guess a lot depends on how healthily you eat normally.

So if you generally eat and drink healthy foods and drink lots of water, you are less likely to have a major detox, than someone who consumes vast quantities of coffee/alcohol the night before the attunements are due to take place. Nobody has said to my knowledge that the connection to the source would be any less valid! Neither would a restricted diet or not have any effect on the quality of a connection, perhaps there is an element of misunderstanding here.

Kind regards & Reiki blessings

Love Elaine xx

... no, no misunderstanding. Just making a point.

No reason has been given for why people have to alter their diet before going on a Reiki course, and I was dealing with one reason.

RE: How do you prepare for Reiki attunement?

I agree with Taggart, Paul and Storm on this one, but can also see the validity in what others are saying too.

When I teach students if they ask me about what they should do in advance I tell them to do as they wish. I explain that by taking their attunements they are doing something special for themselves, and that they might like to prepare for it in whatever way they wish in the run up to it. Even if they don't, the Reiki will still work.

After they have had their attunements I suggest that if possible they have a quiet night rather than go clubbing, but each to thier own.

Also I dont teach the 21 day detox thing either. I do however encourage them to practise practise practise.

Whichever way we do it, the Reiki does the job. 🙂

RE: How do you prepare for Reiki attunement?

Hello All..

I have read this thread with interest, and must confess to not having been told what to eat before hand or not to in the case may be etc... etc..

But having read everyone's thoughts here, I must first agree with storm.. why any of it..... and also what paul mentions..

But also, I can see what Taggart is saying, re.. the clear out.. as after all, alcholol is not recomended when doing circle work, or channeling etc, so why not with attunements???? so on that thought of taggarts, I am open to this.. even tho, it seems all what we can or cannot eat, does seem a bit new agey..

Many years ago, I read that if we eat meet, it holds our vibration down as we are eating flesh, as well as all the emotions of the animal, so thinking a little deeper, could there be a bigger clear out? if its true about eating meat?

There are so many changes going on now, within ourselves, the earth, and maybe things are changing a little with reiki, I dont know... other than that our energies are becoming lighter, or bodies are and will be going thru major changes with energy shifts, maybe it is all link somewhere?

So in many respects I am dithering here, on both sides, as to why, but could it be better if one does eat and change before the attunement? or.....
if we have a lot to shift, it will not matter what we eat or not, the clear out will be as it is meant to be...

That just some of my thoughts, I am not a master, and at the end of the day, a master will work to what the feel is right for them and their students, and the most important thing is the attunement at the end of the day... and from then the reiki journey will be as you want it to be..

I hope I have not gone around in circles, but looking at all points objectively...

The only circles to go around in, Flower, are Reiki Circles 😀

Well it is good to see that there is still a lot of nonsense going around and being taught 🙂

Energy attunements/connections IMO only affects the spiritual levels with possible occasional side effects into the physical levels, we do not channel physically so why should anything we do on a physical level affect our ability to channel or receive our connections on the spiritual?

Personally I am quite happy to channel whatever I am doing on a physical level even if I am drinking, smoking or half way through eating a steak! if the moment is right then I channel 😉

RE: How do you prepare for Reiki attunement?

yes the dietary modifications can indeed lessen the effects of a clear out, however from a nutritional point of view if a person is having 5-6 coffees a day and lots of red meat and smoking etc and they give all that up then the healing crisis from givingup the food/coffee etc can be very bad for you.

the clearout from sucha quick withdrawl can be worse than any reiki clearout

to detox your body in a safe way is by slowly eliminating food/drink otherwise it can indeed be uncomfortable

as for it being a pre requisite for an attunement

it is not needed and it does indeed come down to choice.

RE: How do you prepare for Reiki attunement?

OMG, this reminds me of when I was attuned to Reiki 2 in Nov 2000. It's filed under "Embarrasing moments in my life".
The course was for a full day. We were supposed to bring lunch which I had forgotten all about. So at lunchtime I took off for the nearest kebab-kiosk and returned with a huuuge portion of kebab meat and pommes frites. One slice of tomato and one lettuce leaf. The other students sat around the table with their little salads. You should have seen their faces when they saw my lunch! Big round eyes. My RM had a quick disgusted but discreet look and remarked "You will be well grounded with all that meat!" That's when I got the feeling of being a naughty girl who did something she shouldn't have. A familiar feeling since early childhood 🙂

Well I certainly had a heavy period of detox and cleansing after the attunement, much worse than Reiki 1. It started right away and lasted for more than a month. But I wouldn't have thought it had anything to do with the food I ate! There was never any mentioning of food, before or after attunement. Only about alcohol. Our RM said that if we were used to alcohol (regardless of amount) we wouldn't be able to drink the same amount anymore. That has proved correct. Alcohol and Reiki don't go well together.

One of the many consequences of the attunement is that I no more feel like a naughty little girl. I do what I want. Reiki has helped me with this 🙂

RE: How do you prepare for Reiki attunement?

Hi Floffle,

What a good question - obviously it's got a few people thinking. As for myself, I can only agree with the attitude of many others and say "Why?" [sm=scratchchin.gif]

When I did my attunements, the matter of cleansing was mentioned - but only in an if you want to do it, then it may make the process more personal kind of way. As it happened, I just refrained from drinking alcohol the day before. I really cannot see how the attunement was lessened in any way by my not sticking to a meat/sweet/caffeine free diet.

Ask yourself this - before you do any Reiki treatment on anyone, do you ask them what they've been eating or drinking (or smoking!); I expect not. Also, do you deliberately abstain from any of the " vices" that you mention before giving anyone a treatment. Why then, do you need to do this in order to receive an attunement?

One other point - on both my Reiki 1 and Reiki 2 attunements the Reiki master asked us to bring vegitarian food to share. I did this, but asked him the purpose on the first day of my Reiki 1 course. His answer was simple - it's nice to share food with a group of people; you all end up with something different; and, everyone can eat vegitarian food, so nobody is made to feel left out. A good answer I thought.

Take care, and enjoy your attunement

Jim

Me again!

It's been interesting to see everyone's point of view on this, and everyone seems to have very valid points.

I think at the end of the day it's a personal choice whether you decide to do any detox or not.

Having done Reiki I you'll have an idea how much your body reacted to that. If it was quite a shock to the system you may want to detox to lessen the effects, or if it had little effect then you may not want to bother.

Whatever you choose, enjoy your Reiki II Floffle.

RE: How do you prepare for Reiki attunement?

Wow!
Thanks everyone for your posts. Thats what I love about HP, all this brilliant advice at the drop of a hat!

As I said before, I have gone off a lot of the things I was told to avoid anyway and I'm a great believer in listening to your body when it comes to food.

I might find the veggie diet a bit harder, I hardly eat red meat these days but after all your advice I don't think that eating chicken and fish will cause a problem with my attunement.

Thanks for your encouragement to enjoy the attunement, I'm secretly hoping for all the wonderful 'fireworks' that some people report, but as I didnt have any at Reiki 1 I'm not actually expecting any!
