As the title suggests really. I've tried googling this but haven't come up with anything, all it seems to mention in attuning children to Reiki, and not so much about healing them.

My daughter is 2 and my nephew is 1 and both are going through a little rough patch at the mo and I'd like to give them some Reiki but I'm unsure as to whether the hand positions are the same as in adults or whether they have to be adapted slightly.

Thanks in advance.

Go with your intuition and forget about the hand positions. You will know where to place your hands if you let go and trust.

Cheers, Sue

Agree with Sue - go with your intuition, besides they are very young children & probably wouldn't sit still long enough, especially the 2yr old! You could try using a surrogate if they won't stay still for you e.g. a teddy bear or a doll.

When my grandchildren were little I had the same problem. So I used to sit near them, or hold them if they were babies, then just raise my hand and aim in their general direction! It seemed to work as they could wriggle or move about. A bit like distance healing but in the same room! 🙂

I agree with everyone above. Hand positions are like the training wheels on a bike. Great to use while gaining confidence but obsolete when you trust your intuition:). A good Reiki cuddle would be of benefit. Hug the child gently to your chest and the Reiki will flow from the love in your heart and through the hands supporting the child. You may find they become so relaxed they drop off to sleep!

Hi Donna3939

The hand positions for the foundation Reiki treatment are the same for adults and children - except that, because children are smaller, you probably won't be able to do so many.

If you can get them to lie still, the foundation treatment is great and they'll probably fall asleep - or not, depending on the child.

If you can't get them to lie still, then go with what you can reach - remember, Reiki always helps, never harms, goes where it's needed ... and let go of anxiety that you might be doing it "wrong".

Thank you for all your helpful replies. I guess I'm a bit of a stickler for the way things "should" be done rather than how they can be done - I tend to follow rules and don't tend to stray from what I'm told so rather than rely on my own instinct I go by others - I'm definitely a sheep rather than a shepherd!

I guess I'm just going to have to let go and learn to live by my own instinct and intuition. I think if I can manage to meditate then that will help me advance myself.

Thanks once again.

Hi Donna,

Thank you for all your helpful replies. I guess I'm a bit of a stickler for the way things "should" be done rather than how they can be done - I tend to follow rules and don't tend to stray from what I'm told so rather than rely on my own instinct I go by others - I'm definitely a sheep rather than a shepherd!

In traditional Japanese Reiki or Jikiden Reiki (close to the original Japanese teachings) a technique called Byosen is taught. This is a form of scanning the person to sense where Reiki is needed. Even in Western Reiki, the hand positions are usually only taught at level 1 to help familiarise the student with Reiki and giving a treatment, but at level 2 the use of intuition is usually taught or encouraged (of course it depends on the teacher). So, if you want some rules to follow, then by all means follow them, but know that those rules also include the use of intuition. 😉

Absolutely. If you stick with specific positions for specific periods of time, then the client isn't really receiving the best they can get. With byosen and intuition the places that need the treatment the most will get it, even if that means spending half an hour or whatever on one particular place.

All Love and Reiki Hugs
