Hi, I'm doing Reiki Masters course in December & recently read a book which made some statements which I think are sensationalist (if there's such a word). Would anyone care to comment on the following? (I'm paraphrasing by the way):
1. People with diabetes must take care using/receiving Reiki as it can cause fluctuations in insulin levels
2. Reiki should not be sent by distant healing to people in an operating theatre or recovering from an anaesthetic as it changes levels of conciousness.
3. People with Pacemakers which permanently regulate the heartbeat should not receive Reiki whereas those with pacemakers which regulate the heart if it dips below a certain level can do so(!!!)
I am intrigued! [sm=jump1.gif].
Would love to hear anyone's thoughts
RE: Contra Indications
I wanted to, once again, reassure all you newbees that there are not any contraindications to reiki -
how can something be contr-indicated if I wanted to, once again, reassure all you newbees that there are not any contraindications to reiki -
how can something be contr-indicated if it is for your highest healing good?
I have to disagree in principal to this statement as you cannot possibly know in every case what the consequences will be of your actions.
This statement is only true IF you are NOT treating any specific clinical conditions and are therfore in no danger of improving or curing any condition. As soon as you start to treat specific conditions and improve them, THEN there is a possibility of certain medications causing damage to the client. For example if a client is on prescribed medication for a serious mental illness and you improve their condition THEN the medication will cause an inbalance in the brain.
Also saying 'it is for your highest good' means nothing if your actions are not for the highest good. Poor actions give poor outcomes regardless of how good the intention.
RE: Contra Indications
Hi There
I don't think it should matter who receives Reiki as it's suppose to have it's own intellegence and only goes to wherever it is needed. If healing is done the highest good of the person receiving it then why could any harm come to that person.
RE: Contra Indications
"I have arthritis in my knee and during Reiki treatments, be them self treating or being treated by another, the pain in my knee is excrutiating!!!! "
I have total hip replacements and also a lot of metalwork in my left leg. During treatments for Reflexology ---- and also reiki --- I have bone-knawing pain which becomes so bad its almost ecstatic! However, I always know that within about 3 days afterwards I will feel so much better.
I believe its because the energy cannot flow normally in those areas where "I" don't exist... where there are artificial parts and the huge blockage caused by them brings the pain as the energy flows freely everywhere else.
I still manage to fall completely asleep during a treatment, and the pain is still there like a bradawl being thrust with a vengeance into that area with a massive vibrational force.
Its not strange to me that it only occurs with either Reiki or Reflexology as I believe there are strong connections between the two - even tho they are different therapies in the scheme of our construct for labelling things.
Diabetes: Yep, I still treat lots of people with diabetes [with reflexology and with reiki] but I guess the important aspect of this is awareness... I am aware that they have this condition... and they are too... and I naturally mention that they should monitor their levels over the following 3 days in case there is any fluctuation. Reflexology also notes that treatments can cause fluctuations in sugar/insulin levels... because of the effect on the pancreas and endocrine system in general. All fairly obvious stuff when you consider that these treatments clear blockages, and get energy moving to help restore balance.
