Sorry can't help with articles, but just to let you know that my daughter who has severe learning difficulties loves Reiki!

I recently did Reiki I, and she is my favourite person to practice on. She really seems to absorb the energy, she goes very still and thoughtful, then may start to giggle, then be still again. I only do short bursts on her, maybe 5-10 mintues at most, but I certainly think it is beneficial to her.

I am hoping that when I have done Reiki II, I will be able to offer this to the other children in her school (subjsct to the usual permissions etc!!) as I really believe it is a fantastic treatment for the children there, who all have severe and profound learning difficulties, including Autism.

If I find any research or other info iI will let you know.

ps my Reiki Master was telling me of a therapy called Metamorphic technique which apparently is fantastic for such children - hope to learn more soon

I can only share my own experience I'm afarid, but I used to be a Lovaas Therapist with a team of 5 other therapists who worked on a 1-1 with a 5yr old Autistic boy in his family home. I was new to the team and on our first meeting the little boy came over to me and flung his arms around my neck and cuddled! The others were amazed at this because he normally avoided contact. They were also trying to get him to say 'crisps' when he wanted them instead of just pointing. He could only say crips. On the second session with him the therapist said "hold Chris' hand" as we were going over the park and he looked up at me and smiled and said "Chris"perfectly!! I knew he could sense the Reiki energy and when he got into tantrums I could calm him down by beaming it to him until he would let me cuddle him. It worked every time. His mother ws so pleased with this that she would allow me to bring him back to my home for a few hours to play with my daughters which was always a joy. Sadly after 6 months of this programme (he started to attend main stream school with one of us in the class) his mother decided she had enough of 'strangers' in her home and packed him off to a special boarding school.

It must have been great to have got those results with that little boy.

How did you beam the Reiki energy to him? Did you sent it mentally by intention or did you use some hand position?

I just wondered as it sounded like a useful technique.

Floffle, in answer to your question I would hold my hands out palms facing the little boy, and 'beam' pure energy towards him. I never used a particular symbol, just a blanket of love and security to calm him down ( I could actually feel the palm chakras opening and the energy flowing towards him!)

Hi everyone
I have four children one is Autistic & loves Reiki but adores deep massage which many children crave because their senses are often effected & either not pronounced enought in certain areas & they need extra stimulation & or the are hypersenative to the point of pain..... I have another child that has add & dyspraxia.. He likes Reiki but the energy far from calming him down actualy makes him more active & jittery .. I think this is actualy a clearing of all the excess energy he carries around & tries very hard to control.

My twins both are on the Autistic spectrum too My little boy loved Reiki.. and my little girl likes it but due to her sensativities she finds it too much often saying mummy its burning!!!!! I don't use any symbols at all with her & i never actually put my hands on her they are usualy about 6inches above her. but she does like what she has. like her older brother she loves massage & likes to be err how can i say this.... rythmically patted on the back and bottom quite firmly. but not to hurt. We play the bum drums, where I play a tune on her bum by patting her on the bum.& she loves it! ( tho you cant do that to a child thats not yours)

Auststic & dyspraxic & ADD ADHD children are similer but never the same , be guided by the child it may take a while to build up the trust & you may not actually get near him/her for a while just spending time getting to know each other through play. While beaming Reiki energy to him her whilke doing so & work from their BUT!! Reiki may well just provide the stimulation needed by these children imeadiately & some may actually get it straight away just like reikiangels little boy( what a fab story). Just go with it & do what reiki has taught us to do ... trust our guidance & intuition .

It does give further insight into these unique children.

Their positive responses are to love without condition, rather than any particular type of energy. Asking that your personal energy not be used during any treatment permits the most positive outcome.

Nancy and I have had some staggering results with a young lad with Asbergers, he is now drug free (within 3 months of coming to us) and now a year later will soon be ready for "normal" school. Equally all we provided the means but he made the choices =)
