I am a little confused about affirmations.
I have always heard that you are to repeat as often as you think to, say a positive affirmation until eventually over a period of time, your sub-concious believes/accepts it.
Even if at first you don't believe it yourself, it will in the end manifest; 'You are what you think'.
Recently though i have read a book called, 'Reiki Best Practices', by Walter Lubeck. In it he says that, 'An affirmation such as: 'I am safe and protected' chains our conciousness to the fear of being unsafe and unprotected. Without the clearing and harmonization of fears and their individually related problems, protection measures like wearing amulets, reciting Mantras or hanging up pictures of saints only create the opposite effect.
I was once advised to not repeat that i was not afraid, but to admit i was and to ask for help.
The conclusion that i have come to, is that if you say repeatedly that you are not afraid, you are in actual fact drawing your attention to the fact that you 'are'.
I would appreciate thoughts,

RE: Affirmations
Hi Aura, IMHO - my understanding is that a positive affirmation does affect our behaviour and change our thoughts and therefore our lives in a good way. For instance 'I am a worthy being deserving of all abundance and joy' . Since the sub conscious cant differentiate between negative and positive - if it hears ' I will not be afraid' - it picks up on the afraid and ignores the not. If I said to you - do NOT think of a red lorry - what would you think of? You ignore the not and see a red lorry!!! (:Dgreat eh)
Your other point from W Lubeck - I understand where he's coming from as our thoughts are real, energy and bring about reality. So, if you focus your thoughts and energy on what you dont want - it can come about. Also I was also reading recently that if you affiirm for eg ' I am happy and well' (whilst in a bad relationship or when youre ill) your body can actually think that this present situation IS happy and well - and continue down that same path. Been thinking a lot about this same subject recently and I think I more often ask to be kept safe and protected - and then believe I am.
I know for sure affirmations can change lives.

RE: Affirmations
Hello Jancol,
I see what you mean, and you've made it much clearer for me, thankyou.
I didn't realise that the sub-concious could not differentiate between negative and positive. So say if someone had a phobia of flying or of say spiders, what affirmation could be used with this?

RE: Affirmations
Id tend to be saying something like ' I am happy and at ease' -' I love all Gods creatures' something like that. Hey you just reminded me - I hear that a therapy called EFT is great for fears and phobias - Im not quite sure how it exactly works though - except they 'tap' away the phobia.
Tell you what I can recommend though Aura - Books by Diana Cooper and Gill Edwards - GREAT for expaining affirmations.
Isnt this an exciting path to be following.

RE: Affirmations
I've already downloaded an EFT manual, and have been tapping for a coupleof weeks now.
As my neck is what's getting me down the most, i have been saying, 'Although my neck is bad, i deeply and completely accept myself'. I try to remember to do this the 10 times a day as recomended, although i honestly don't see how this will heal the disc damage in my neck. Either way i'm going to perservere, anything for some relief!
I will have to get the book you recomended Jancol, as it will be interesting to see exactly what an affirmation would be for a phobia without drawing more attention to the fear itself.

RE: Affirmations
Dear Jancol,
Thankyou, i would be very gratefull to you if you would.
If i'm not being too cheeky, could you possibly send healing for my sister Delia Gehriger too? She's been ill for over 3 years now and has been bed-ridden for over 15 months.
I really appreciate this, thanks again.
Aura xx
RE: Affirmations
No problem at all - Im going to start sending this evening and will continue. Are there any particular areas you feel I should send to Delia or complete body?
Also, let me know which area you and her are in - just UK or USA or whatever will be fine and tell me your hair colours. (its just so's i can picture you both more strongly)
Also - feel free to let me know if things change, improve or move - you can e mail me on @clara.co.uk">jcol@clara.co.uk if you prefer.
Love
