Hello and welcome. This site contains a wealth of knowledge for you to explore. Enjoy reading and enjoy your Reiki 1 attunement. I loved mine and I'm hoping to do my Level 2 in the near future.

How did you find your practical study day of level 1 may I ask? I have tbh and say when I 1st picked up my study pack I thought 'what have I done' but I've stuck with it and think its the japanese names, places, wording that Im struggling with?

Hi Amanda,

Reiki is taught in a multitude of different ways, so not everyone will have had a home study pack or done a "practical study day" for level 1. For example, when I learnt Reiki 1, quite a few years back now, it was done as a two day course which included learning the history of Reiki, having 4 attunements (2 each day), practicing on each other (we were a group of 4 students) both sitting and lying down and learning about self treatment.

It's usually not imperitive to learn all the japanese names of things for Reiki 1, as that is primarily taught for self treatment (and often treatment of friends and family too).

Reiki is a journey of self development, with the added bonus that you can use it to help others, and should you so wish, progress to be able to teach others to do the same. Although all the Japanese traditions and names etc. are interesting to know, it wouldn't really be until Reiki 2 that you would need to start to get to know them a little better when you're taught the Reiki symbols and their names (kotodama ;)) and then should you go on to do Reiki 3, learning the master symbol and it's name too and of course knowing the history of Reiki and the Japanese parts of that is good to be able to pass on to your own students, but for you that's probably quite a way away yet. 😀

Reiki 1 should not give you any worries, it should be the start of a beautiful journey and something to go along and enjoy. Of course everyone is apprehensive and wonders what it's all about and they go along with various expectations based on what they've read on the web or in books. Trust me, it's never the same for anybody else, so just go along and enjoy it and get out of it what you will for yourself.

All Love and Reiki Hugs

Hi Amanda

I've recently re-done my Reiki 1 in the Usui system and love it. Totally different experience this time round , but very much a work in progress still. Try not to let it overwhelm you, it's a journey and you will learn at your own pace.
