Hello everyone

First of all, I really am becoming addicted to this site - it is so useful and informative!

Secondly, I have a question about shingles, but in mentioning it feel I must ask how Moonfairy is getting on as I know she has recently been hit by this nasty virus again. Hope you are well, Moonfairy, and on the road to recovery.

Back to my question....

I am just about to start my reflexology case studies and one of my "clients" has just gone down with shingles. She spotted the symptons straight away, and got drugs from the doctor which seem to have stopped it in its tracks, and a week on she is feeling quite well again. Does anyone have any thoughts on how long after an attack of shingles it is ok to carry out reflexology? If she feels well, is it ok, or is there a period in which you should avoid treatment? (Or is it the usual tutors answer, and should I just refer her to her doctor for consent??)

Any sharing of your experience of this will be greatly appreciated,

Many thanks

Sarah

RE: Treatment after shingles

Hi Sarah, moonfairy here[sm=wave.gif]

Secondly, I have a question about shingles, but in mentioning it feel I must ask how Moonfairy is getting on as I know she has recently been hit by this nasty virus again. Hope you are well, Moonfairy, and on the road to recovery.

Gee, many thanks for thinking of me.That's so kind of you.

I am much recovered now thanks. It wasn't as bad the second time around, thank goodness. The first bout really frightened me as it was opthalmic shingles and my eye was just so swollen and painful. Really horrid. :(Maybe my immunity is better the second time round. And Yes, with opthalmic shingles, it is definitely a MUST to get to the doctor to get the special anti-viral tablets within 72 hours of the rash appearing. This lessens the severity of the illness. Oh, I found out a lot about shingles in the end, from the internet of course. Quite an expert now, me.:)

But I think you may find your client may have a skin sensitivity for some weeks yet. With me, theshingles blisters have mostly cleared after a week, but as I had it on my head area (lucky me, eh?), my scalp is still quite sensitive into the second week now andI still have a headache. But having said that, I went to the hairdresser's on Saturday and had an indian head massage there and that was OK. Dunno if that helps you with your specific query though. Sorry ..........

To be honest, I would advise your client to talk to her doctor, to ask when best to start the reflexology on her. I had a specific question I forgot to ask about the shingles and the surgeryanswered the query over the phone, by reference to the doctor of course.

Good luck with your case study Sarah.I hope all goes well for you andI also wish your client a speedy recovery. She certainly has my sympathy - I know justhow horrid shingles is.

Best wishes
x

Thanks for your advice Moonfairy, and I'm glad to hear that you are recovered! I will ask my "client" to talk to her doctor, but if anyone else has any experience of this, I would love to hear

Thanks

Sarah

RE: Treatment after shingles

Hi Sarah

It all depends on the client! My sister-inlaw had shingles in her feet and couldn't bear to even stand, her feet where very sensitive for about 3 month after.
In her case I waited until she had fully recovered, whilst waiting I gave her healing and light massage of the feet.
