Hello there,
I have started reflexology course a couple of months ago. Soon I developed numb pain in my thumb joints. And I am afraid the pain is not getting any better as I hoped.
Do any of you have similar experience? Is it just question of practise?
I haven't had any problems when doing massage course.
Thanx and wish you all splendid days ahead
Mica

Mica...
I remember someone talking about this same problem a while ago here on HP, I just can't find the thread now...
But if I remember correctly, somone suggested the hight of the massage bed be adjusted...
I am sure you will have more helpful replies about this soon...

Hi Mica
Its probably a bit of RSA as you are new to it. They eventually become really strong. Use you fingers to get at tricky bits, works just as well. Dont overstretch the thumbs. Give them a good massage after use and warm up before. Rubbing in some nice warming cream will help. Lovely Aromababe mixed up a secret potion with ginger and cloves which helped me:).

Jan - you make me sound like a witch! 😀
If you use essential oils, you could make a good blend or use some Tiger Balm at night.
Amber, I think the height of the couch was for painful fingers and thumbs when massaging.

RE: Thumbs
Hi Mica!
I remember when I was training, I used to get joint pains. Basically, it was because I was over bending the thumbs and it soon cleared up when I got the technique right.
Who are you training with? I know the college near me does a course (I didn't do it there) and their technique feels more like pressing with the whole pad of the thumb, rather than using pressure at the top of the thumb near the tip, as I do.
Anyway, practice makes perfect, and I'm sure your tutors will be happy to give advice. I was always hassling mine:D
Good luck.
Jane
RE: Thumbs
Thank you a loooots to all of you 🙂
I appreciate all your advices & make use of them 😉
just a few quick questions:
any particular massage or just kneading?
and the aromababe's "witchy" cream sounds "tempting". Please could you give me tip what essential oils to use as I haven't got experiences? I shall use the tiger balm for now on.
Btw, I used to use clove oil for toothache. Any connections to with above mentioned special blend[sm=confused-smiley-012.gif]?
Also the clearing bad energy appeals to me and will ask my teacher to see if my technique is correct.
Thank you a lot, was a bit worried I won't finish the course as my thumb in the middle of routine would refuse to do even little caterpillar step for a moment... [sm=banghead.gif]
... we shall see [sm=scratchchin.gif] ...thank you
