Hello.:)
I am studying reflexology( VTCT)and have started my case studies!!
Im working with a lady who had three mini strokes four years ago. When i pressed the ears/eyes reflex on her right foot, my lady nearly jumped off the couch. When i asked if it was painful she said No and thatthe feeling was like hitting her funny bone... She has had No problem with her ears or eyes. Although when she had the strokes she lost sight in her eyes for a short period of time.. Also she lost some feeling down her right leg/ foot . She is on medication for high blood pressure. And i have had the doctors consent to carry out reflexology on her...

I would be grateful for any advice as to what might be going on???

RE: Reflexology

Hi jessop

Not been on here for a while so have just spotted your post. Hope it's not too late to reply.

It's hard to say what's going on without knowing the full details of your clients medical history. How long has she been having Refexology? Has she had any kind of reaction or contra actions to treatment? I think the only thing I can advise you to do is to very carefully monitor her progress to see if there is any changes to her general health, be that good or bad.

My concern would be that since the eye/ear are in the head and she has had a stroke there may be a connection, mmmm? Maybe, maybe not. What do you think?

That being said, it could have absolutely nothing to do with it, if her medications (presuming she's taking some?) are working. Could be that she's stressed or tense. Does she get tension in her neck or shoulders? I've sometimes found that clients who are stressed have sore eye reflexes.

Can you feel any imbalance on eye/ear reflexes e.g. grittyness, lumps etc. Does she have any problems with her sight now? Is treatment effecting her sight or giving headaches?

Sorry to bombard you with questions it's just that these are the things I'd be wondering about myself if it were my client.

Anyways, don't beat yourself up trying to work out why she has sensitive reflexes. Remember, it's about treatment of those reflexes and what results you get and not diagnosis. You shouldn't be expected to know what's going on. Like I said monitor and note down every little change in her health. Ask loads of questions before every treatment and write down anythingnew. Also it's amazing how much you can learn about someone by just general chit chat.

Letme know how you get on with her 'cause it might help me one day. I always like to know what other therapists experience so I can learn more too.

Good Luck

:)Hello Again,
I still havent had a reply to my query posted on the 22/02/07. There must be some one out they who could put my mind at rest??
And to add to that query.... Whilst doing the same client a week later she stated that she could see red/black and orange colours when her eyes were closed.......????

Any ideas ?

RE: Reflexology

You've lost me, which post do you mean? Only one I can see is the one I just replied to.

As for the coloured dot's that's exactly the kind of thing I mean when I say monitor and write down everything. Lot's of people see colours with their eyes closed though, I know I do, so it's hard to say what this is.

RE: Reflexology

:)Hello Susan,
How wierd was that?!!
Did you see my other post today?Yourreply must have crossed in the post....Giggle giggle:D
Thank you SOOOOOOOOOO much for you reply....I was begining to feel i asked a stupid question and that i should know the answer...
This client is my mum!!!!

Answer to your Questions:

How long has she been having Refexology? It was her first treatment.
Connection with stroke? I think you might be right as she could only see half of everything out of eye whilst having a stroke.
Can you feel any imbalance on eye/ear reflexes e.g. grittyness, lumps etc.Yes there was a huge inbalance near the Eustachian tube(crunchy) and it was very spongy round the whole
area.
sore eye? No to sore eyes
Could she be stressed? Yes my brother is very demanding
Medication..She is on eight different types or meds so ive ask her to get them reviewed..

Also she hasjust had a blood result showing kidney/liver in balances which i think might be down to one of her drugs Statin?

Thanks Again for you reply.

RE: Reflexology

Great, treat the imbalance and like I said keep monitoring the results. Sounds like a good case study to do. Sometimes you can feel imbalance when there's an underlying problem waiting to come out that she's not aware of yet e.g. ear infection or something (just a suggestion not a diagnosis though) but if it does come out don't worry it's all a part of the detox process that Reflexology can bring on. See what results you get from the treatments and then review and act accordingly.

The first thing that jumped out at me really was the stress so the therapy will help this anyway. Watch out for changes in mood. Sometimes the stress comes out and the client get the colly wobblys for a bit. This is good and shows that the treatment is having an effect

No it wasn't a daft question and keep me posted 🙂

As for this side of Reflexology I don't tend to practice it much myself I tend to stay on the practical side so you'll know much more about it than me. I've got an open mind though and I'm always interested to learn from others so maybe you could tell me more about it.

Sorry im not very good explaining it, but im at college tues so i will ask then.

RE: Reflexology

Hi, this is from a book I've got:

Crown Chakra - Violet
Brow Chakra -Indigo
Throat Chakra - Light Blue
Heart Chakra - Green
Solar Plexus - Yellow
Sacral Chakra -Orange
Base/Root Chakra - Red

Not sure if that helps but i'd be really interested to hear what others think about seeing the chakra colours during a treatment. I had a client a while ago who saw all the chakra colours as her treatment progressed and also got a bright white light when i pressed her eye reflex. Really interesting stuff and i'd love to know why.

RE: Reflexology

Hi, we are into case studies now, i've handed one in and it was ok thank goodness. I do enjoy it so that makes it much easier. My case study suffered with tinnitus so it wasn't quite as involved as yours by the sounds of it but it was very interesting.

The mouth ulcer thing was eventually resolved with rescue remedy not before i accidently poked it with the dropper though!!

RE: Mouth Ulcers

:DI tried hopi ear candles on her too! She really enjoyed the treatments but honestly - it didn't work :(. She did have a cold during our six weeks and she said usually her tinnitus would be intolerable during that time andit didn't get that badso she felt it certainly benefitted her. I did some research to see what else might help and came up with homeopathy but she wasn't keen because of the contraceptive pill and also believe it or not Cranial Oesteopathy. Now i don't have detailed info on either of those things but i believe C/O is all about realigning the bones in the head. There might be some info elsewhere on here?

Good luck with your case studies...... xx
