Reflexologist tired out - is this normal?

I'm gradually getting through my case studies to get my VTCT reflexology portfolio finished.
I've noticed that I am quiteweak after giving a one hour session of treatment, and am feeling quite run down generally (Sore throat, weak, headache, that sort of thing) after giving two sessions a day for several days.

I realise that the answer might be that I have a 'bug' that will go away, but I am just wondering whether this illustrates an energy loss from me to my clients. If so, does it get better with practice? Are there ways of re-charging?

I would welcome more established reflexologists' advice and experiences.

Many thanks,
Peaky.

Hi Peaky,

I understand exactly how you feel.
this used to happen to me early on in my training.
My muscles and very core would feel depleted.
It was odd because I would be on an immediate high after treating and then feel wiped out.
I still often feel punch drunk after doing nine a day with 30 min treatments.

it depends on my energy reserves and the clients also.
With very open and very poorly patients I have to be careful.

i often ensure that I use a small mediation technique and drink a whole glass of water after each client.
Ensure you are taking deep breathes. Look after yourself.

i read in a Reiki book ( I have not trained ) that yawning is meant to be a way of expelling the stress. I imagine a bit like releasing the negativity like the man did in the film "the green mile".

Main thing is eat well yourself, hydrate, stretch and use visualization to cloak and protect yourself.
I find that I feel how you do when I am trying to give so much to the client on every level.

Hope this helps....

Hi Peaky,

I have not trained myself in reflexology but did attend one or two classes, and also felt wiped out after having the treatment done on me. I understand it is a very powerful treatment. I met a reflexologist who described feeling how you feel after doing treatments. I think it is important to have your own 'ritual' to protect your energies and ensure that you are not using your own energy when treating clients. This is important no matter what method of therapy. Use some meditation and visualisation to 'recharge'.
Echinacea may help to give your immune system the boost it needs for now.

Hope this helps!

Hi Peaky,

You've a lot on at the moment ~ I know how difficult it can be to complete your case studies. You're not only physically giving the treatments, but you're noting everything down ~ trying to remember how the systems link in. Mentally it's very draining !!

You're also wanting to help your clients ~ rightly so ~ and so are focusing on them and putting a lot of your energy into the treatments.

My advice would be ~ eat well, sleep well, have a good laugh a couple of times a day, get a therapy swap going with someone at college if you can and enjoy.

You'll find it much less draining once you've qualifed ~ I promise !!

Hi Peaky 🙂

I believe a close connection between both practitioner and client is forged to facilitate healing, (in any healing modality). Through this connection there may be a transference of the client’s physical and / or emotional condition, which you may sense– this may be discomfort in your own body corresponding to your client’s symptoms. This should be viewed positively, it is valuable information which will enable you to tailor a treatment to the individual.

However, what you feel / sense should be temporary and it might be worth performing a visualisation to cleanse yourself of anything you do not need to take away from the healing, (particularly as you are feeling so drained following giving treatments):you couldvisualise a beautiful waterfall, cleansing you of anything that you do not need to take from the treatment and leaving you clear and revitalised (similarly you could use this at the beginning of the treatment asking that you be cleansed of anything that you do not need to ‘bring’ to the treatment, to ensure that you are approaching the treatment with no expectations and are not transferring any emotional or physical states to your client – it is a two way connection!)

I also use visualisation to protect and to screen myself and client before giving a treatment: if this is not something you already do, you might like to try - (please let me know if you would like me to post some here).

Hope you are feeling bouncy again soon, good luck with the course work!

Hi Blue Fairy,

Would you mind posting some of your visuilisations? I am also a reflexologist and sometimes end up taking the clients negative energies away with me at the end of the treatment. As yet i ahve not found an effective way of counteracting this and protecting myself.

Many thanks

Thanks for the sympathy and suggestions from Portiaophelia, Star Dust, Meridianmoon and Blue Fairy. I shall try them all, and would welcome Blue Fairy’s visualisation for protection.

What a good site this is for sharing both our emotions and practical tips!

Best wishes
Peaky

RE: Reflexologist tired out - is this normal?

Hi all 🙂

As requested, this is a good protective visualisation for beginners and veterans alike!
Visualise a bubble (or sphere / egg) surrounding your entire body. You might like this to be of and / or filled with acolour: white, blue or purple are popular choices (go with whatever colour choice feels correct for you . . . if you choose intuitively it will never be wrong!)

Once visualising yourself in a bubble, ask for only positive energy to be able to enter the bubble and any negative energy to be deflect away (you might like to ask for this to betransformed back into positive energy).

While the bubble / sphere / egg can be used to surround yourself in protection, it is possible to place a protective bubble around the space in which you give healing, filling the bubble with white light protecting you and the person receiving a treatment and deflecting any negative energy.

Hope this is helpful . . .pleaselet me know how it goes!

That is the same visualisation I always use and find it to be very useful, during treatments and in other situations which may seem upseting in some way.
More recently, I read on someone's thread about using the image of a colour sleeping bag.... can't remember who it was wrote it now .... and zipping it up around you, and that is good too!
